Elegant, Contemporary Italian Villa with Private Pool. Family Friendly

Bedrooms 5
Space 3,767 sq. ft.
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

5 king-size bedrooms, 4 balconies, large terrace, private pool with massage jets and fountain. Far reaching, panoramic views

Casa del Colle is a contemporary Italian villa nestled into the top of a small hill in the Abruzzo region of Italy. The estate is around 2.5 acres of olive grove & fruit trees and overlooks the medieval town of Penne, voted recently as one of the “Most Beautiful Towns in Italy”. Casa del Colle is built to an exceptionally high specification with 5 king-size bedrooms, three large reception rooms, 4 balconies, thoughtfully landscaped terraces and a luxurious 14m salt water pool with massage jets.

Pescara has a small and accessible airport and is only a 45 minute drive from Casa del Colle, with car hire facilities and regular flights from many major European cities. Rome Fiumicino, Rome Ciampino and Ancona airports are under a 2.5 hour drive from the villa and will offer more choice and flexibility with flights.

Driving to Casa del Colle through central Europe is a thoroughly rewarding experience; owners Steve & Marion do the trip from the UK often and would be more than happy to share travel advice and places to stay enroute.

The house is mainly on 2 floors with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms all with large walk in showers. There is a spacious, well equipped kitchen and two reception rooms that open out onto an amazing terrace with 360 degree views of the mountains, Penne lake and glimpses of the sea in the distance. There is a large games room in the basement with pool and football tables as well as an additional double bedroom with en-suite facilities. Adjacent to the house is a large swimming pool (14m by 6m) with massage jets and water fountain. Three of the bedrooms have their own balconies and there is a first floor terrace with access from the upstairs hall. All of the five bedrooms are finished with luxury king size beds, Egyptian cotton sheets and feather and down pillows. There is also a folding single bed, travel cot and high chair available. White Egyptian Cotton fluffy bath sheets are provided and duck egg blue swimming pool towels. The villa is set on the top of a hill with virtually total seclusion. It faces the medieval town of Penne, a 5 minute drive with restaurants, banks, bars and excellent local shopping. There is a nearby Pizzeria at the bottom of the hill. In the winter there is high quality skiing in the Apennines that rise up over 3000 metres a short drive away – for further information on the best slopes visit this link. The house has under floor heating with a wood burner in the lounge and a large open fire place in the dining room. Saturday to Saturday bookings only Guests can also enjoy premier modern amenities such as high speed Internet, 55 inch flat screen TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime and a basement room with football and pool tables.

About Marion Hughes

Stephen and Marion also have a small farm with an olive grove in the nearby area of San Giorgio. Some 500 trees on about 25 acres that produces about 600 litres of olive oil which they sell to friends, family and colleagues in the UK.

Marion Hughes purchased this villa in 2014

Why Marion Hughes chose Province of Pescara

Stephen grew up in Rome for part of his childhood (and speaks fluent Italian) and has strong memories of a mountain retreat the family rented in the Abruzzo mountains, not so far from Rome. Taking a sabbatical six years ago he went to the Abruzzo to re-kindle those childhood memories and fell in love with a hillside with stunning views of Penne, a delightful medieval town, and the surrounding mountains, with glimpses of the sea in the distance. Casa del Colle now sits on that hill.

What makes this villa unique

Nestled between the sea and the Apennine mountains, Penne offers something for everyone. Sea and beaches are 40 minutes by car in one direction and mountains a similar distance in the other - but it is the beauty and seclusion of the mountains that stands out. Rising up sharply just behind the house to nearly 3000 metres is the Gran Saso, the highest peak in the Apennines. Glacier in parts with ski slopes for the Winter.

In the summer you can visit the Campo Imperatore, 80 sq km of high plains used as the setting for more than 20 films including spaghetti westerns. In the middle of this plain sits a butchers that sells meat from the mountain herds, the speciality being arrosticini, small lamb kebab which can be barbecued there on one of the communal BBQs.

High on a hill, a little pice of heaven.

If you are someone looking for something extra from your holiday and you appreciate the finer things of life, then you will love this holiday house. Built and finished just last summer, It has been designed with every comfort in mind from the well equipped kitchen to the super, comfortable beds and fluffy bath sheets. We were a group of six adults enjoying a week here over the Easter weekend. The weather was variable but this house isn't weather dependent. There is plenty of space to be together or apart with two large reception rooms and a separate basement games room with table football and a pool table. There are board games and two bookcases full of an appealing selection of both fiction and non fiction. From inside the house the blue swimming pool winked enticingly set against a backdrop of rolling hills and olive groves with distant mountain views and would be wonderful on warm summer days. Set up a private gravel road, high on a hill top just outside the small town of Penne this house will provide you with everything you need for a relaxing away from it all holiday.

Owner's Response: Thank you and so pleased you enjoyed the little touches of luxury at Casa deal Colle! A bit of a shame about the weather being variable but as you say fortunately the villa is not weather dependent and there are still lots of things to do either at the villa or to go out and explore.

A perfect place for good friends and family

  • 5 of 5

We stayed one week in Casa del Colle. 3 families with total 5 adults and 6 kids 5-10 years old. The house is big, clean and modern. What we enjoyed most was the location on the hill top. The view of the Italian cultural landscape was stunning! Even the thunderstorm was beautiful. The pool is clean and perfect, the kitchen is perfect, the bedrooms and bathrooms are perfect. Outside breakfast close to the kitchen. Questions to owner Steve were answered immediately, and he reserved dinner tables for us. And he helped us if we had questions about what to see or do. I hope we will come back again in some years! Thanks Marion and Steve.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased you all had such a great time at the villa and enjoyed the landscape and views etc. "A perfect place for good friends and family" is such a complement to us, as that's exactly what we have tried to achieve at the villa. Hope you can return in the future.

Cash Delle Colle

4 out of 5 only because of condition of the roads. The property was fantastic. The house was beautiful and functional. The pool made the vacation for our three teenagers.

Owner's Response: So pleased you and your family enjoyed the pool and being at the villa. Really sorry about the road which was just beyond our control unfortunately. We've been assured it will be fixed by next year at the latest!

Wonderful house in stunning location

  • 5 of 5

We spent a fabulous week (which was really not enough time) at Steve and Marion's wonderful home. Our constant refrain while there was that it was really too nice to be a holiday villa! The surrounding area is beautiful and offers unhurried walks, excellent food and wine and some interesting places to visit. It is difficult to overstate the magnificence of the location - it offers a panoramic view from the Gran Sasso mountains, over the nearby town of Penne all the way down to the coast. I can't recommend this as a holiday destination highly enough and look forward to my next stay.

Fantastic property in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Casa del Colle is a perfect holiday property for a family group, the standard throughout the property (Both inside and out) is extremely high and the whole place has been designed for ease of use. The pool area is large and comfortable to use with shade and lots of seating. The Bedrooms are simple and spacious and furnished to a very high standard as are the living and Kitchen areas. The views from the patio are stunning - even better when seen from the gorgeous pool!

We swam two or three times a day and enjoyed leisurely breakfasts and lunches on the terrace

A Lovely Lovely Place

  • 5 of 5

"Steve and Marion, the owners of Casa del Colle near Penne have done a great job building this villa. It is in a lovely quiet location on a hill over looking a valley with the local town of Penne which is a mile or two away. The villa is top quality, shiny granite floors throughout, v comfortable beds and a really good kitchen. The large pool and patio are excellent with shade if you need it (I do) and plenty of space and seats, loungers etc to chill out on. The views are spectacular with mountains and the sea in the distance and the Gran Sasso national park near by. We didn't get into it but it looks like there is great hill walking near by. I can thoroughly recommend this place and also some great restaurants near by, try Stefanos (great pizza and arrosticini) and Cignale (organic Montepulciano D'Abruzzo wine *****) and Mint sprigs in batter!!!......delicious! . We had a very good time and will definitely be going back." Peter S Coventry
