About Hilary Mahoney
I live in London but do stay at my Suffolk homes as often as I can, not only to make sure the standard of the cottages are maintained, but because the countryside is beautiful and the skies are vast in this part of the country. I enjoy refurbishing houses and hope visitors find my taste eclectic, homely and comfortable.
Hilary Mahoney purchased this Cottage in 2011
Why Hilary Mahoney chose Peasenhall
The area is rural and still maintains rural ideals. It is just far enough from London not to become part of a commuter belt and is still a 'real' village where people live and work and farm. It feels a million miles away from the fast-living City life, although is only 2.5 hours' drive and the rail links are excellent, so provides a real break.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage is in a small village which does have essential facilities like a well-stocked local store and post office, a wonderful deli and local organic butcher and great eateries within an easy walk. The cottage itself is perfect for small children or those of limited movement as the ground floor is step-free and the stairs to the 1st floor have a door preventing inquisitive toddlers from mounting the stairs by accident. The access to the garden is also step-free.
Perfect cottage for family, in Suffolk village, with short drives to beach.
The space was perfect for our family of five, but would easily be good for six, and the cottage well equipped. Our host was very helpful and responded quickly to queries, when we were in Suffolk. On street parking was fine, and the garden a useful outside area, with large family table. There are lovely walks close by to convenient pubs and tea rooms. The beds were really comfortable, and bedding excellent, plus two convenient bathrooms. We were lucky to have brilliant weather, so able to enjoy short drives to Southwold, Aldeburgh, Snape Maltings and Wilberswick. Also Framlingham was great with the excitement of the castle. There are plenty places to explore still when we return to the area. My family loved the character of the accommodation, which made it a fun visit for all.
Thank you Gloria for your kind words. I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you and your family again one day.
Lovely old cottage with plenty of space & a pretty back garden
Lovely oldy worldly cottage with large bedrooms and very well equipped, had everything we needed. There was a wonderful welcome pack waiting for us full of goodies which was much appreciated by us all so thank you for that! The back garden is a sun trap, completely private and full of beautiful poppies, climbing roses and wild flowers so we really enjoyed sitting outside. The weather was great all week so we are in the garden most evenings
Nice cottage. Very good location and lots to do in the area. Definitely recommend
The Property is a characterful and traditional cottage. Comfortable. Cosy. Well equipped. Decent bathrooms. Kitchen is small but was fine for 6 of us. Would have preferred some lawned area out in the garden as we had kids but we were out and about most of the time anyway and the kids enjoyed the garden well enough.
Lovely cottage in easy reach of Suffolk attractions.
It is a really lovely, characterful cottage. We stayed from 4-11th August 2017 and found it to have plenty of room for 6 of us plus dog.
The single (or we had it as a twin) room is downstairs with large accessible shower room ensuite. The two double bedrooms are upstairs and are charmingly decorated and comfy. It has been lovingly restored and there was a delightful welcome pack - so thoughtful!
I hadn't read the details properly and thought there was no wi-fi - but there most definitely is wi-fi. In fact there is everything you could need for a week's break - it is really well equipped. The garden is great - a sun trap and a lovely place to sit with a book or a cuppa.
The location is charming - in the midst of a pretty Suffolk village with a fantastic pub (the Sibton White Horse) just a 10 min walk through the village. The local shops were great - an amazing butchers; a really special deli/smokehouse; and a post office/general store. There's also a charming tea rooms - Weavers. And, a family of peacocks in the village - peacocks!
All the coastal resorts and other attractions are very easy to reach by car - Saxmundham or Dunwich about 10mins, Southwold, Aldeburgh, Sutton Hoo about 25 mins. Framlingham Castle is about a 15min drive.
We had a great week in a lovely cottage and would thoroughly recommend it - thanks!
Thank you for your kind words. I'm so glad you enjoyed the area and the cottage as much as I do and that you had a good holiday.
Special interest holidays:
Convenient for birdwatching facilities at RSPB's Mimsmere - as featured on Spring Watch this year.
The coastal resorts are from 20-30 mins drive away, i.e. Aldeburgh or Southwold.
A welcome pack is provided including tea, coffee, biscuits, nibbles and a bottle of wine to help you settle in on arrival.
