Wigford Farmhouse and The Chalet both provide relaxing bases for the perfect beach holiday. They are booked separately, and some bigger groups like to book both. (NB Chalet photos are after farmhouse photos: keep scrolling for these, and the interiors all have a written description under the photo so that you can tell what's what. You may have to scroll down to see the description.) Each has its own private garden as well as use of the large shared play areas and large games barn.
15 minutes drive from surfing/barbecue/family beach at Bantham. Half hour to 'cool' Totnes. 15 minutes from Dartmoor. Close to Salcombe and Dartmouth. Walks to the River Avon start outside the door. You can even plan your walk along the river to end with a delicious lunch or home-made cream tea at local family-run garden centre. South Devon is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. The South West Coast Path is just 15 minutes from Wigford and Dartmoor is a mere 15 minutes in the other direction: every day of your holiday the choice is yours!
The market town of Kingsbridge is five miles down the road, with great local food shops and a leisure centre. The immediate locality of Loddiswell boasts a pub and two shops, including a very helpful post office, a fabulous local butcher, a garden centre with a cafe selling cakes to die for and a chilli farm with cafe and shop.
If you require a supermarket grocery delivery Tesco and Waitrose do one. Sainsbury's also deliver locally.
Wigford Farm is in the most amazing location. Now that my children have mostly left home it's a joy to share it with holiday-makers throughout the year. Deep in the countryside and yet only a 15 minute drive to some of the most stunning beaches in the country; we can hardly believe our luck.
We delight in telling people how they can walk out of the front gate and follow a fairy tale path through woodland to be at the River Avon at Topsham Bridge in 10 minutes. If you've never seen a Devon river, this is something else... from sparse and clear in the summer, to a raging torrent if it's been wet for long, The Avon is ever changing; reflecting nature in her changes by the day.
On a clear night we're still amazed by the number of stars you can see...
We had a lovely time staying here for 1 week. The owner Ant is a fab host. The Chalet is lovely, cosy and warm.Wigford Farm is so peaceful and quiet in a lovely rural countryside area.my children loved the garden and playing on trampoline, zipwire, swings, treehouse etc. They made friends with a little girl from the farmhouse and now still keep in touch by letters. We were so lucky with the weather for that week. There are plenty of places nearby to go to.We went out every day! We will definitely be back again in the near future. Thankyou xxx
We had a wonderful holiday here. The chalet is simple but rustic and it is in an amazing, peaceful and rural setting. It makes the ideal base to explore wonderful beaches, we did a different one every day! We also could get to Dartmoor easily. My husband recommends sea-kayaking at Dartmouth and we really got very excited to go crabbing for the first time! Our son loved playing with the children from the farmhouse and they had a great time in the tree house, on the swings and zip wire. It was a bit chilly and damp one evening , so we lit the stove and the chalet got warm in no time, very cosy! On the other end of the scale , we enjoyed a very pleasant BBQ outside.
Ant and Cornelia were very helpful and little touches like a vase of flowers and the local weekly newspaper all added to the welcome.
We had a wonderful week in the Chalet. The surroundings are fantastic, really a treasure in it's kind.
The Chalet was basic but comfortable, enjoying the early sunrise with a nice cup of tea on the veranda is just heaven.
My kids(14yrs and 11ysr) loved the trampoline, table tennis/soccer and the tree house.
We went surfing at Bantham beach, took a nice walk at River Avon. Salcombe is a must see, beautiful place hidden in a bay.
The Pub at California cross was also very nice.
For us a week was a bit on the short side, we wanted to see so much more.
Last but not least; Ant was a good host. Just ask and you got good advice.
If you like the pictures for this property; in real life it's better!
Thank you so much a spectacular stay in your wonderful accomodation. It was like its own private holiday retreat! We will defiantly be back in the future.
I booked the chalet so that I could take my mother on holiday for a week. She needs ground floor accommodation as she can't do stairs any more. The chalet was perfect. It was compact and comfortable and situated in a beautiful part of Devon. The drive to Wigford Farm is great - down a typical Devon single track road with hedgerows on either side. Once there, it's just a short walk across grass through some fruit trees to the chalet. Inside, there's everything you need if you plan to cook, although there are some great places to eat in the area (The Start Bay Inn has great fish and chips). We did a mixture of the two. The chalet is quiet with just the sound of the birds and the cattle in a neighbouring field. One morning there was a hare grazing just outside the chalet as we had breakfast. The weather was great during our stay, apart from a couple of rainy days; even then it was still warm. However, there's a wood burning stove if the weather turns cold and I think it would warm the chalet very quickly. The owner, Ant, and his assistant, Cornelia, were extremely welcoming and friendly. They went out of their way to make sure that we were ok. When I made my initial email enquiry, Cornelia rang me to discuss the suitablity of the chalet for my mother. This was much better than just emailing me and enabled me to make a fully informed decision to book. We thoroughly enjoyed our week in South Devon and the chalet was a perfect base for us, that met the needs of my mother well. I would definitely recommend it.
