Hello, welcome to my site, my name is Ruthie, I’ve spent the past few years travelling around Asia and the Middle East. In 2010 I decided to make a life changing decision and started to look around France for my ideal home, with a view to eventually settle and start a new life. After visiting France several times and searching for ”the perfect place”, I eventually found the ideal location and made the plunge. I willingly left the UK, with its weather and my stressful Civil Service job behind, in 2010 I purchased the house in Negrelat, with a view to fully renovating it over the next few years. After my French investment secured, builders and craftsmen employed, the house was well on the way to be transformed into my dream home.
Ruthie Haslam purchased this farmhouse in 2010
When I lived in the UK one of my favourite places to visit was the Lake District in Cumbria. After a year of repeatedly returning to France, searching for that special place, north and south of the country, I kept gravitating back to the Haute Vienne region. It reminds me so much of the Lake District with its large pine tree woods and forests, the rugged landscapes, the amazing bird/wildlife, the many, many lakes and log cabins, and picturesque stone villages. The only difference is, it gets much hotter in the summer months, so for me it was the perfect place, with the best of all worlds. A cyclist, walkers/ramblers bird spotters paradise. Not to mention the easy going, laid-back lifestyle pace and of course the wines and the gastronomic experiences. With hardly any traffic on the roads.
Renovated to a high standard of accommodation. Private woodland. Outside Bar with Alfresco Dining for up to 12 people. Large private swimming pool with sun and shaded decking areas. Plenty of seating and sunbathing quality garden furniture, Traditional French style BBQ with Bespoke garden furniture with outside music and lighting in the Bar area. Set in five acres of private woodland forest and wonderful natural wildlife. Amazing night skies and shooting stars. Private and tranquil, chill out and enjoy.
What a great time had by all! The whole family had a fantastic holiday in this luxurious 17th century farmhouse! The pictures don't do the place justice - it's even more beautiful when you're there! A quiet location but just a few minutes from shops, bars and restaurants. A great set up for the kids too with plenty to do and see in the area. The pool was marvellous and well-kept by the owner, Ruthie, who lives (discreetly) on site but is always on hand if you need her. We look forward to seeing you again next year Ruthie! Thanks again for making it such a wonderful experience.
We have just returned from a weeks stay at Ruthie's beautiful home.
Everything about the house is luxurious and Ruthie has obviously put a lot of time and thought into it and this shows in everything from the furniture to the fabulous location.
The house is not only beautiful, but comfortable and practical with a master bedroom suite to die for.
The weather wasn't the seasonal norm whilst we were there but we did enjoy relaxing by the pool and lay on the sunbeds one evening to watch the stars come out...
The surrounding area offers lots of activities to occupy all ages. We highly recommend a trip to Lac de St Pardoux with everything from pedlos, a man made beach to a 'Go Ape' type thing with a zip wire that goes across the lake... twice! Brilliant fun for any age group as they have several different courses from toddlers upwards. We also rented bicycles in Chalus and cycled along the old train tracks and went to the market at Piegut Pluviers The Chateaux at Montbrun is a pretty spectacular sight and has a great pub/restaurant directly opposite.
Ruthie was a very friendly host and we felt very welcome. She has great local knowledge and nothing was too much trouble.
The only tip that we would suggest is that if you want to eat out in the evenings, particularly at the weekend, we would recommend that you book.
We had a wonderful holiday in Negrelat. The house was beautifully furnished and decorated, and the surroundings were just gorgeous. Ruthie was a superb and welcoming host -- respected our privacy and was thoroughly professional in all aspects. Highly recommend this property and fabulous location for exploring this stunning area. Tons to do for young families including the Adventure Parc, St Mathieu lake activities and cave art in Montignac. Had a fab time!
We had a lovely 2 weeks holiday in Ruthie's beautiful home. The house was well appointed and tastefully done. A welcome pack greeted us and Ruthie was an excellent host - around when needed, very friendly but not oppressive. everywhere was spotlessly clean.
The area is full of wildlife, though I didn't see a wild boar, but saw coypu, deer, woodpeckers, jays, edible doormice and so on. There are many pretty French villages within 30 minutes and lakes to swim in which even our teenage children enjoyed.
For anyone wanting to experience rural French life, I would thoroughly recommend either of the properties. Please enjoy, we did.
