About Susan Riseborough
I'm Susan, the wife of John who is co owner of our farming company, along with his brother Richard. We have an arable farm growing wheat, barley and oilseed rape. I manage all the farm administration and also look after the running of our holiday cottage, including all cleaning, marketing and finance.
Susan Riseborough purchased this Cottage in 1970
Why Susan Riseborough chose Saint Margaret, Ilketshall
The holiday cottage is one of a pair of farm workers cottages that came with the farm when the family purchased it in 1970. We decided to renovate the cottage during 2003 and let out for holidays as it hadn't been occupied since 1976. We started in the January that year and finished all the renovations by the beginning of July - just in time for our first booking. Although we have successfully let it through Hoseasons Holidays for the past 11 years, we decided in 2013 to market the property ourselves as we have many returning guests. We were graded 4* again this year by Visit England and were pleased to receive 100% in the cleaning section for the 3rd year running! Situated in countryside, there is plenty of wildlife, including barn owls, buzzards, deer and hares with footpaths from the cottage door.
What makes this Cottage unique
The pair of cottages are just off a very minor country lane, but in a good situation for touring both Suffolk and Norfolk. It is in a very peaceful location, quite rural, but of course it has the next door cottage (not a holiday let, but occupied by a family member) and the farm house 1/2 mile down the lane, which doesn't make it feel so isolated. The small country lanes are perfect for cycling and there is a good network of footpaths leading to interesting villages and historical sites. There are several country pubs within a short drive that serve food and the Medieval moated, St Peters Hall in the neighbouring village, has a restaurant, bar and its own brewery and brewery shop. Brewery tours by arrangement.

Wonderful little cottage
This was our second stay at the cottage and all our expectations were met again. Location wise, it is isolated and a car is a necessity. Nearby attractions are a short drive away. I personally enjoyed the isolation and the privacy. Susan has attended to every detail possible for a comfortable stay. The delicious cup cakes and milk and bread were welcoming after a long drive. For 2-4 people, I would certainly recommend this cute cottage without hesitation.
Thank you very much for your kind review. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us again and that you enjoyed the peace and quiet of the cottage location. Best wishes Susan
Once again, a perfect stay
Thank you for another great stay in this lovely cottage. We had a brilliant time exploring the area and enjoying the peace and tranquility of this perfect setting. The cottage is comfortable, clean and has everything we might need. The whole process is smooth and simple, and Sue the owner is great. We'll be back!
Thank you for your very kind review. It was a pleasure to welcome you back once again this year and I will look forward to seeing you again sometime in the future. I am so pleased that you enjoy the peaceful setting of our cottage and that you find it so well equipped. There is a lot to explore locally, so I am sure you will find something different to do on another visit. Many thanks, Sue
A perfectly equipped cottage in the quiet countryside.
On arriving at Grove cottage, the lights had been put on by the owner which was very welcoming when arriving in the dark. The cottage was warm with an additional coal effect fire if needed and blankets to cosy up by the fire. Home made brownies and a few grocery items with a tea tray ready for a welcomed cuppa after a long drive. The beds were comfortable with lovely warm quilts and a choice of feather or non-feather pillows. The kitchen had every utensil needed for homecooking and plenty of crockery and cutlery.
A very comfortable stay!
Thank you very much for your kind review. I am so pleased that you found our cottage so warm and comfortable. It's always good to arrive to a well lit and warm cottage, especially on a dark evening. We try to keep our kitchen well equipped and hopefully covers most guests needs - although I am always open to suggestions if something amiss! Thank you too, for leaving the cottage so very clean and tidy on your departure. Best wishes, Sue
Well appointed cottage..
would highly recommend a stay at this lovely cottage. Set in farm lands for those wishing peace and quiet. But close enough to enjoy the local sights. Sue was a helpful host.
Thank you very much for your kind review. It was a pleasure having you stay.
The cottage is set in a very peaceful position among our arable fields and close to country footpaths, which is very useful for nature watching and gentle county walks. The narrow, quiet country lanes are great for cycling too and visiting the local villages of the South Elmhams and Ilketshalls - each with their small Parish Church and village greens.
Lovely Cottage in Suffolk
We enjoyed a weekend break in this well appointed cottage, Susan was very helpful with the booking and was there to greet us when we arrived. The brownies were delicious and a nice touch, thank you.
Thank you for your very kind review. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us whilst visiting Latitude at nearby Southwold. The cottage is available for short breaks (out of the main summer season) and is just the place to wind down and relax in the Suffolk countryside. There are many country walks close by, together with quiet roads for cycling. Nearby Minsmere is excellent for birdwatching, although there is plenty of wildlife within a few yards of the cottage!
Very cosy cottage in great location
The cottage was lovely and had everything we needed. Lots of useful information of places to visit. We walked to the nearby St Peter's Brewery and had lunch in the hall there. The cottage is well situated to visit the coast too. The owner was there to greet us and show us all we needed to know about the cottage. Fresh flowers and home baked cake were great to arrive to as well! We had a fantastic stay and would recommend it to others.
Thank you for your very kind review. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Grove Farm Cottage. St Peter's Hall is a very historic place with its own restaurant, brewery (and shop) and a delightful place to walk to through the local countryside - plus you get a good pint at the end of it!
