About Susan Riseborough

I'm Susan, the wife of John who is co owner of our farming company, along with his brother Richard. We have an arable farm growing wheat, barley and oilseed rape.

I manage all the farm administration and also look after the running of our holiday cottage, including all cleaning, marketing and finance.

Susan Riseborough purchased this cottage in 1970

Why Susan Riseborough chose South Norfolk

The holiday cottage is one of a pair of farm workers cottages that came with the farm when the family purchased it in 1970. We decided to renovate the cottage during 2003 and let out for holidays as it hadn't been occupied since 1976. We started in the January that year and finished all the renovations by the beginning of July - just in time for our first booking.

Although we have successfully let it through Hoseasons Holidays for the past 11 years, we decided in 2013 to market the property ourselves as we have many returning guests.

We were graded 4* again this year by Visit England and were pleased to receive 100% in the cleaning section for the 3rd year running!

Situated in countryside, there is plenty of wildlife, including barn owls, buzzards, deer and hares with footpaths from the cottage door.

What makes this cottage unique

The pair of cottages are just off a very minor country lane, but in a good situation for touring both Suffolk and Norfolk.

It is in a very peaceful location, quite rural, but of course it has the next door cottage (not a holiday let, but occupied by a family member) and the farm house 1/2 mile down the lane, which doesn't make it feel so isolated.

The small country lanes are perfect for cycling and there is a good network of footpaths leading to interesting villages and historical sites.

There are several country pubs within a short drive that serve food and the Medieval moated, St Peters Hall in the neighbouring village, has a restaurant, bar and its own brewery and brewery shop. Brewery tours by arrangement.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fantastic cottage, very clean. Thank you for the everything including the Brownies, yummy! Had a fabulous week visiting Aldeburgh, Southwold and Bungay etc. Walked in the countryside. Fantastic! Hope to come back soon.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your quaint cottage. It was equipped with everything anyone would need and is set in a lovely secluded area. Great places to visit such as Southwold and Dunwich. We stay in cottages 2-3 times a year and this is by far the best. We will be back. Mr and Mrs G (Oxford)

Fabulous cottage with everything you could wish for. Immaculately clean and cosy. Thank you. Excellent position from which to explore Suffolk. Harry (3) was thrilled with the tractor books. Mr & Mrs M (Kent)

It was nice to come back to Grove Farm cottage after 6 years and find it every bit as good as we remembered. Had a lovely week enjoying the Suffolk countryside and coast. Thanks for everything, be back soon. Mr & Mrs W (Yorkshire)

Well appointed cottage..

  • 5 of 5

would highly recommend a stay at this lovely cottage. Set in farm lands for those wishing peace and quiet. But close enough to enjoy the local sights. Sue was a helpful host.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your kind review. It was a pleasure having you stay. The cottage is set in a very peaceful position among our arable fields and close to country footpaths, which is very useful for nature watching and gentle county walks. The narrow, quiet country lanes are great for cycling too and visiting the local villages of the South Elmhams and Ilketshalls - each with their small Parish Church and village greens.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very kind review. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us whilst visiting Latitude at nearby Southwold. The cottage is available for short breaks (out of the main summer season) and is just the place to wind down and relax in the Suffolk countryside. There are many country walks close by, together with quiet roads for cycling. Nearby Minsmere is excellent for birdwatching, although there is plenty of wildlife within a few yards of the cottage!

Very cosy cottage in great location

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was lovely and had everything we needed. Lots of useful information of places to visit. We walked to the nearby St Peter's Brewery and had lunch in the hall there. The cottage is well situated to visit the coast too. The owner was there to greet us and show us all we needed to know about the cottage. Fresh flowers and home baked cake were great to arrive to as well! We had a fantastic stay and would recommend it to others.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very kind review. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Grove Farm Cottage. St Peter's Hall is a very historic place with its own restaurant, brewery (and shop) and a delightful place to walk to through the local countryside - plus you get a good pint at the end of it!

The best cottage!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage has everything you could ever need in a holiday home! Susan thought of everything a visitor may need in this home! This was our first time staying here and we wished it was for longer. The home is far more cozier than the pictures show. We are a family of four and had plenty of room. We will for sure be back and will tell all our friends about this beautiful cottage! Shops were close by and if you like walking, there were plenty of trails nearby. Thanks Susan for a wonderful stay!

Fabulous cottage!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is a delight. It's so well furnished and equipped that it very quickly felt like home. A lovely vase of roses and a home made cake awaited us on arrival, which was a very nice touch.

We found it easy to get around by car to lots of interesting places, so it's a well situated property too. We'd give it 10/10 !

Perfection! Sophisticated country style.

  • 5 of 5

A special trip with my elderly parents, who originate from very near-by, a walk down memory lane. This cottage is without doubt the best of many I have holidayed in. Sue has lovingly created a true gem of a holiday retreat with charm, comfort & individuality. Found just off a quiet lane, with plenty of parking in its own pretty garden, it is in an ideal location for the town of Bungay, & coastal favourites such as Southwold & Dunwich (Dunwich Village Museum & the Fish & Chip Cafe on the beach are a must!) With its high ceilings, traditional furnishings & wonderful rural views you will be reluctant to leave. Sue provides a warm welcome & guides you through the facilities & assets she has thoughtfully provided for your holiday needs & is happy to help with any guidance you may require .Very clean & well equipped. A lovely personal touch is left for your enjoyment in the form of delicious home baked cake & fresh flowers, little gifts that make your stay as special as Grove Farm Cottage! xxx
