This extremely comfortable Gite is a modern style property built in 1976, set in its own grounds of just over an acre and is surrounded by wonderful countryside and woodlands. This is the perfect location for all ages to enjoy a relaxing break, swim in the heated pool, go for walks, cycle, visit the châteaux or the many other attractions in the area. This is a very large property ideal for families, catering for the needs of all ages, ideal for children and animals to safely enjoy the large enclosed garden.

About Christopher Paul Ayton

Christopher and Linda travelled throughout France before finding their dream property in the Loire area. Christopher is a former Sales and Marketing Manager now living in France with his wife Linda, a former school teacher. Having lived in France for the last six years, and adopted the French lifestyle, they are well placed to offer the same experience to others.

The property is located in the famous wine growing area of the Loire valley, surrounded by the world renowned châteaux most of which are easily reached within an hour by car.

The vineyards of Bourgueil, Saumur and Chinon are all close by. Many restaurants, bars and shops can also be found within this area.

Surrounded by wonderful open countryside, orchards and woodlands with an abundance of wildlife, we considered this to be the perfect location in which to relax and unwind.

Within a mile there are a few local shops, and bar, including a boulangerie, grocers, chemist and hairdressers. The town of Vernoil is 5 miles away with all modern conveniences including a supermarket.

There are a multitude of other attractions, including horseriding, tennis, and the "Loire à vélo" cycle route n

The famous wine growing town of Borgueil is 9 miles away by car and has a number of vineyards open to the public. There are several good restaurants, shops and bars in the town. A hypermarket is available together with a filling station on the edge of the town.

The house is located near to the famous Loire châteaux, the nearest being: Chinon, Saumur, Villandry all of which are within an hours driving. The Abbey of Fontervaud which is a world heritage site is only 30 minutes drive away.

Further Details:

There is a château only 1 mile away which is open to the public during the holiday season. There are local shops including a boulangerie, grocers, chemists and a Post office nearby.

Vernoil is 5 miles away and has banks and shops including a supermarket.

Further afield there are Troglodyte caves, and Futuroscope is 1 hour 30 minutes drive away.

Garden fully fenced and gated (lockable) for safety of young children and animals. Mature trees offer shady, peaceful retreats from the pool and terrace area. With access to the "Loire à Vélo" cycle trail close at hand, we have a range of bikes available for use together with cycle helmets. The area offers ample dog walking opportunities Utility Room: Basement utility room; 2 x washing machines, sink with hot and cold water, airer and washing powder supplied. Outside rotary clothes line. Cleaning / Towels / Linen: We supply linen and towels. Pool towels are not provided. Visitors are required to leave the gîte clean and tidy (same condition as on arrival) failure to do so will incur a fixed fee for cleaning of £120 or 150€. Other: Breakfast room with table and six chairs, sideboard cupboard. Internet access with WiFi.

The property is very spacious and has a great secure pool area.

There were twelve adults, two children and two dogs in our party and we found that even when we were in the same area within the house it was not crowded. There is a lot of outside space for everybody to enjoy (pool, gardens, etc) and always somewhere to find a quiet spot when needed.

Lovely holiday with a few downers

A lovely spacious gite apart from the kitchen which when catering for 12+ people was totally insufficient. Lovely swimming pool but no shade and only one small parasol. We spent the last day of our holiday cleaning with inadequate dirty equipment but lost most of our deposit as we were told it took six hours to clean up after us so ensure you prepare to clean clean clean and fill your car with refuse when you leave. We were also criticised for leaving some dog mess and apologise for this but would like to say that we found a large amount in the front garden when we arrived which certainly was too large for our dogs

Owner's Response: Thank you for acknowledging that our gîte is spacious and has a lovely swimming pool. We do expect guests to clean our gîte to the same standard as found on arrival using equipment provided, which is checked after each group of guests stay. A cleaning charge is only imposed when deemed to be absolutely necessary. In your case it took four people six hours each (=24 man hours) to thoroughly clean the gîte to the standard required, prior to the next guests' arrival. Animals are welcome but dog excrement is not, nor is your refuse as this can be disposed of close by. Other reviewers have commented more positively on the facilities provided and we are sorry that you did not feel the same way. Proprietor.

A wonderfully appointed house for a 3-generation f

The house is spacious and well laid out with secure grounds that gave peace of mind when the children were “exploring” the vast garden – an extra benefit was the pool area being fenced and completely child proof. The pool itself is clean, warm and was used by everybody, every day to keep cool. There are ample eating areas that offer either shade or sun depending on the time of day and the BBQ was used most evenings.

The older kids enjoyed cycling to the village (5 minutes away) in the morning for fresh baguettes and croissant and the adults enjoyed eating them! The Super U at Bougeil was only a short car trip away and provides an ample selection of local produce and general products including diesel at supermarket prices.

The area enjoys exceptionally well laid out, very safe, easy/moderate cycle routes that meander through sunflower fields, apple orchards, sweetcorn, asparagus crops and forest and they can be accessed straight out of the gate.

A thoroughly enjoyable holiday in a lovely house, with very easy access to Tours, Chinon and Saumar on the Loire itself. Highly recommended and thanks to Christopher and Linda for providing such a fantastic base.

Diamond Wedding Anniversary

Fourteen members of our family, spanning four generations, joined together at La Varenne to celebrate our special occasion. The gite provided everything we had hoped for; all the facilities required by the age range of such a family group, and plenty of space. The items provided for activities - the bicycles and table tennis - are of very good quality. The swimming pool was very well maintained and used constantly by all of us in the very hot weather we experienced during our two week stay. Our evening dinners together on the veranda overlooking the farmland at harvest-time as skylarks sang overhead are a memorable feature of our holiday.

The boulangerie at Giseux is very good as is the Hyper-U in Bourgueil. It is not too far to travel in order to visit any of the chateaux between Tours and Saumur. For the energetic try canoeing on the Vienne from Chinon. We all enjoyed our stay so much and thank Christopher and Linda for the use of their home.

Un excellent gîte pour se retrouver en famille avec des enfants. Le gîte est bien entretenu, spacieux, de grandes chambres, une salle de jeux à l'étage, un garage aménagé avec table de ping-pong et vélos et une piscine chauffée. Nous avons bien profité des équipements malgré un soleil qui jouait à cache-cache. Nous étions nombreux et chacun pouvait avoir son indépendance. Vraiment génial.

Les propriétaires sont à l'écoute et charmants. C'était nickel, rien à redire.

Rates & Availability

Cleaning charge $199.73
Refundable damage deposit $399.47
Pet Fee $79.89

Booking Notes:
Bookings can be made by email only. We will respond within 24 hours to any enquiry. Postal address is required for the invoice and to send the contract by post.
A 20% non-refundable deposit is payable upon booking with the remaining balance payable a minimum of 60 days prior to arrival.
A refundable (subject to any breakages and cleaning costs) security deposit of 300€ is also payable with the final balance. From October - April inclusive a heating deposit of 300€ is also required. The pool is heated from June to September only.

Changeover Day:
Only weekly bookings with changeover day on Saturday. Outside the peak season we may be flexible on changeover days and duration of stay.
Arrival time is 6pm onwards, and we request that you vacate the property by 10am on day of departure.

Notes on prices:
Our prices are inclusive of all charges except for a supplement of 300€ for electric heating from October to April. Electrical consumption will be monitored and any extra cost will be deducted from the heating security deposit of 300€ In the event that the cost is more than 300€ the further additional costs will be deducted from the security deposit.
