Why Roger & Zoe Bulkeley chose Dunwich
We really love the area, its a complete change of pace, so relaxing to stay and unwind, plenty of great walks for the dog. Lots of areas of interest with plenty of things to do all within a short drive and only just over 2 hours drive from London.
What makes this Cottage unique
Quirky, Charming, Victorian listed cottage. Superb quiet location within easy reach (short drive) of Southwold, Walberswick, Aldeburgh, Snape or Thorpeness. Great local walks, beach and very handy for nipping to the popular Ship Inn (5 doors or 50 yards away).
100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date. 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
The cottage was roomy and light and airy.
We had plenty of space .
All the facilities that we needed plus more.
It was so well equipped and felt like " home from home".
The access to the upstairs would not work for elderly visitors.
Great spot for a winter break but the property is tired and needs TLC
Great spot and a great house for a family winter weekend break. With the exception of the kitchen it needs redecorating inside and out and feels tired. Outside lights at the front and on terrace were not working which was frustrating for late arrivals. Lighting in the main bedroom is dreadful and the spot light over the bed wasn't working. Two other lights not working.
Front door lock needs replacing - a pain to shut , especially in strong onshore wind. It has charm and a lovely location but desperately in need of TLC
Hi Martin - Thanks for your review.
Disappointed to hear that you found lights not working. I'll take that up with our Cleaners / Maintenance man any bulbs that have gone should be replaced at each changeover. The bedroom and outdoor lights were working when we were last there a couple of weeks ago - apologies for this. We will also get the front door lock looked at.
In terms of the decoration we have blocked the calendar for over a week in January 2019 to re-decorate the house without affecting its Victorian Listed cottage charm.

Lovely stress free stay at the Old Post Office
Six of us enjoyed The Old post office for our stay in Dunwich, great position, opposite the beach and a few doors from the Ship pub. The cottage is very good value for money and has everything needed for a restful stay, the stairs were a little challenging for the taller members of our group but they coped! All in all a brilliant short break.
Really wanted to love it....
We booked the property for a family get together consisting of 6 adults and 2 children, with the intention of the children having the smaller back bedroom. Unfortunately the wooden access ladder steps we felt were much too dangerous for a 6 and 4 year old to negotiate independently and the annex felt very detached from the main cottage. The two adults who ended up staying in the room found it to be damp and what I'd call 'fusty' which we are very disappointed about. By the end of the week, with a good airing and use the fustiness had pretty much gone.
The 2nd double in the main house was extremely small, the main bedroom is of a good size and the bed was very comfortable. The shower room was clean and ample supplies of toilet rolls and bleach etc were on hand. The bathroom downstairs had a waterjet bath which our young boys enjoyed immensely.
The property was warm even on colder days with no need for heating at all. It's a very cosy house, the lounge is comfortable and the sofas are excellent. There are lots of DVD’s and games for wet days – but we were lucky enough not to need to make use of them.
The kitchen had everything we needed, although a number of the cups, glasses and appliances felt sticky and the floors underneath the dining table and chairs did not appear to have been cleaned recently. There is a steel access plate underneath the dining table which isn't screwed down on two sides and which we felt was the source of a distinct 'drainy' smell on occasions.
I'll preface the next part by saying we do, REALLY do appreciate this is an old property and as such is almost bound to be quirky - but we struggled considerably with doorway heights, bumping our heads on a number of painful occasions. Something to bear in mind even if you're not tall! The stairs are VERY steep and VERY narrow - even heaving suitcases up was a mission that Sherpa Tensing would have found challenging.
The neighbour in Ivy Cottage next door seemed utterly determined to park his Jag as close as possible despite there being ample room in front to leave us reasonable space. Whether they are residents who resent holidaymakers or not we never found out. It just seemed peevish. Parking for our 2nd vehicle across the street wasn’t a problem.
On the whole we enjoyed our week but this was largely thanks to the location rather than the property itself, which we felt was a little too cramped for a party as big as ours and which we also felt could have been cleaner.
Hi Andy - Thanks for your comments.
We will rectify the issue with the access plate under the table, it was securely fixed when we were last here in Mid July..!! Similar with having the damp/fusty point looked into and rectified this week. We will also take the kitchen / dining cleanliness comment up with our cleaners.
We'll take on board your other comments. But feel we've adequately and fairly described features such as steep twisting stairways that are a feature of our Victorian Listed property.
We have had many favourable reviews over the last few years as a result of the unique quirky nature of the Old Post Office.
Lovely cottage very near the sea, quiet place with lots of charm.
We had a wonderful stay at Old Post Office in Dunwich. We had the most amazing weather and could spend all day on the beach and in the sea. We all loved the holiday and felt very comfortable at the cottage. Our party consisted of, 2 adults, 2 grandparents and 2 teenagers and our dog. None of us wanted to go home and could easily have stayed much longer than the week. Thank you Roger and Zoe, its a lovely, cosy, homely place and we would love to come back.
Hi Tracy - Delighted that you all enjoyed your stay in Dunwich at the Old Post Office.
Thanks very much for your review.

Great place to stop after doing the Dunwich Dynamo
Eight of us rode the Dunwich Dynamo and then crashed out in the Old Post Office. after recovering we did some great walks and rides in the area for the rest of the week.
The cottage is well-equipped and comfortable but being old (the cottage and us) negotiating the steep stairs was a challenge.
