The cortijo is in the village of Las Barreras which was once famous for its clay pots made from the red earth. The cortijo is new and we have done all we can to make it wheelchair friendly. There are 3 double bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, lounge and kitchen/diner. The kitchen and lounge both have doors leading onto a shaded porche with views of the mountains - a great place for a quiet breakfast to listen to the birds.
The cortijo is well situated for hikers and walkers and mountain bikers. If you are looking for the "real Spain", then Las Barreras and Orgiva will give you that. At the beginning of June, Las Barreras celebrates its local fiesta to the Virgin of Faith with 3 days of merry-making and this disturbs the normal peace of the area. July and August are the quiet months where the heat of over 30 degrees makes the locals stay up talking outside their houses until 3 or 4 in the morning. September and October are wonderful months because it's still hot, but not oppressively so. In September Orgiva celebrates its Fiesta with all day activities and lots of dancing. November and December mean the oranges are on sale and January is the start of olive picking - and we are in the village in order to do that!
The house has a new swimming pool for 2019 (8 x 4 metres).
