Overview

About the property

Lodge in Clunton near Ludlow & Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England - Peaceful, idyllic location next to river, 5 minutes walk to village pub.

The lodge is located on a secluded site of just ten privately owned lodges, next to a small farm. It is a good size with a feeling of space and light. Just off the lounge is a generously proportioned kitchen diner with new modern appliances. The two spacious bedrooms are bright and comfortable. Anybody fancying a walk can start right from the lodge, without having to drive first. A walk to Clunton Coppice is recommended, with lovely views. Another nice walk is to the nearby iron age hill fort, with views to many parts of Shropshire and Wales. Fishing is permitted in the river next to the lodge, providing you have a rod licence. The area is also very popular for cyclists. A cycle store on the site is for safely storing your bike. Of course is you just want to relax, then the lodge will suit you. With its beautiful, quiet, secluded location and comfortable facilities, chilling out is easy. There is a large decking area with patio furniture, to enable you to enjoy the views of the river and countryside. If you like exploring in your car, then there are lots of lovely places to visit, including Ludlow, Shrewsbury and historic Ironbridge within easy driving distance. You are centrally positioned in the middle of south Shropshire

About David Smith

We live in rural Northamptonshire in a small village. We have a daughter and two grandchildren who keep us pretty busy.

David Smith purchased this cabin in 2013

Why David Smith chose Wales

We were so bowled over by the location, we decided to buy right away before the property got snapped up by someone else

What makes this cabin unique

We didn't really know Shropshire before, but have loved getting to know it more recently since we made the decision to buy the lodge there. Shropshire is a hidden gem and is only a couple of hours away from us so we can easily go for a weekend if the lodge is not let. We love the fact that there is a lovely pub that does great food, just 10 minutes walk up the lane from the lodge.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A real treat in the countryside, right on the river! Ash Lodge was an absolute dream stay, set in the countryside and situated right on the river bank, waking up to the sound of the flowing river was HEAVEN! The lodge is very well heated, we stayed over a cold January weekend and was very comfortable inside the lodge. It was just myself and my partner that stayed at the lodge but there is a second bedroom with two single beds also, which would have been ideal for another two adults, the lodge is bigger that we had expected. The living room is spectacular, glass windows that open up across the two walls, with views onto the fields with grazing sheep to the left and and flowing river to the right. We went to the nearby Ludlow the one day which was only around 25mins away and a great day/evening out. We also went for a walk up the hills to see great views, I am four months pregnant and this walking was not too much for myself but we could have done even more if i was a bit more capable - my point being, whether you are a keen walker or not there is a great walk with fantastic views for you! Plenty of friendly sheep! The kitchen had everything you could possibly need, every utensil under the sun. Also a great collection of DVD's and books in the lodge which was a nice surprise. We will definitely be returning, if not this summer then definitely next. Great weekend, wish I was back there!

If only we could stay forever!

  • 5 of 5

Everything from the location down to the lodge itself was perfect! We couldn't have asked for a better getaway. From the moment we arrived it had such a comfortable and homely feel! the walks through the trees, or just sitting/ lying in bed watching the river really was more then we expected. When we arrived we had a phone call to make sure everything was ok and that really was a lovely touch. The lodge itself actually left me speechless! It was spotless, had everything you could think of and was just designed beautifully. I cannot express how perfect this place is!! We already plan to book again, if possible! Highly recommend!

Lovely property in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

The property was excellent, it had everything we needed for a lovely stay. The weather was a little changeable while we were there but it was so nice and peaceful that we didn't mind not doing too much. We would really like to return in the summer months.

Owner's Response: It's a shame the weather wasn't better to enable our guests to use the decking to chill out on. Perhaps if they come back in the summer they'll be able to. Thanks for leaving the the lovely review.

Beautiful and relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived, the house was very clean and also warm. The first thing we noticed was the amazing view from the balcony at the back of the house. The stream went through exactly where we were staying. This is the best place to stay if you are looking to get away from the busy city life and to relax your mind and be at one with nature. The area itself is also very nice. The village pub has a great fish and chips on Wednesday evenings that we would highly recommend. It is a great place to stay with family and there is just enough room. We will definitely be visiting again.

A perfect bolt hole

  • 5 of 5

David & Denise have succeeded in creating a wonderful haven of tranquility here in rural Shropshire. Standing in the morning on the balcony with a coffee in hand while listening to the sound of the river passing by; watching the beauty of the world around you just makes you stop and pause in this mad world. It was a place that truly restored our souls.

There is nothing I could suggest to improve on this idyllic property. The kitchen has everything you could wish for and this is from a woman who loves to cook. The beds are so comfortable and the lodge is warm and welcoming. Wifi ensures that even the most addicted technology user remains happy and despite there being no phone signal this has been addressed with a complementary landline phone. We even received a phone call on our arrival to check that everything was as it should be and to welcome us to the property. A very personal touch. In addition, the nearby pub offers lovely meals and a warm welcome and is literally an 8 minute walk away.

I could not recommend this beautiful haven enough. If you are considering this property then don't give it another thought......book.....I promise you won't regret it.

Beautifully appointed in a prime position on the park

  • 5 of 5

This was a last minute booking, we found Ash Lodge thanks to Google, backed up by Tripadvisor reviews. What a find! We only had 3 nights and will shortly re-book.

The park is just that, a few lodges down a track a few miles from Craven Arms. Ash Lodge however is in the best position, next to the river, with the decking next to the river - absolutely idyllic. The Lodge is beautifully appointed, with everything needed for a relaxing stay, from wifi to a dishwasher. The fittings are all top-notch, comfy beds, powerful shower, good quality TV, millions of mugs, glasses and plates!

David rang us at the Lodge on day one, a very pleasant chap who provided lots of information before we arrived and responded patiently and promptly to our emails.

So, a superb Ash Lodge and a local real ale pub that is a very welcoming 5 minutes walk away! They don't serve food on Monday or Tuesday so we missed 2 nights, but fish and chip Wednesday was wonderful!

Thank you David for providing such a high quality Lodge in the best position!
