About Collette Richards
My husband and I live in the UK with our two sons. I was introduced to the Algarve in 1986 . I fell in love with the place and my husband and I have spent most of our holidays since then renting villas in the area. After years of looking in estate agents windows we plucked up courage to view some of the properties. We eventually found an old ruined house for sale in our ideal location. We bought it in August 2006 and started on our "10 year project". After the long process of getting planning permission and finding a builder we could trust we started building in May 2010 and stayed in our new house for the first time in August 2012. Only six years into our project. We have now started to develop the garden. January 2016 saw the creation of the Mediterranean garden to the side of the villa. In January 2017 a variety of fruit trees (lemons, lime, grapefruit, apple, pears, mango, kiwi, nectarine and fig) were planted. The area in front of the kitchen terrace has been developed with borders and a path leading to the hammock underneath the carob trees (a lovely cool, shady place to relax).
Collette Richards purchased this Villa in 2006
Why Collette Richards chose Silves
We spent many years looking all over Portugal for the perfect location. We finally decided on an area between the coast and the towns of Silves and Sao Bartholomew de Messines. The old ruin was ideal. It is amongst the orange groves in an unspoilt ,quiet rural area. Everything we needed as a family was within a short distance. Fantastic restaurants, supermarkets, beaches and water parks - what could be better.
What makes this Villa unique
It was built as a home from home. The kitchen is brilliant if you want to eat in or barbeque. The open plan area means that you can all be together if you want but there is also plenty of space to be apart - the play room above the garage is ideal for our two boys. There are fantastic restaurants in the area - a full list is in the house with our personal recommendations. A generous welcome pack of food and drink will be available so that you can have a snack (or breakfast if you arrive late) meaning you do not have to rush out to the supermarket when you arrive. We provide all pool/beach towels so you can just take hand luggage if you wish.

Fantastic rural villa!
We spent almost 2 weeks here and had a fabulous time. The villa is in a lovely quiet spot up in the hills which means at times you get a nice breeze to ease the heat. It is very modern and clean and really does have everything you could possibly need. A car is essential but you are only a 10 minute drive from the lovely Silves. Many other great places to visit along the Algarve are also only a twenty or so minute drive away.
On arrival we were met by Mel and shown around. Great welcome pack was much appreciated. There is lots of space both inside and outside the villa and I loved the open plan kitchen and huge fridge. Great communication from the owner from the very start. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday with some nice home comforts. Oh and both bathrooms were gorgeous! We hope to return next year. Thanks Collette for letting us stay in your lovely, lovely villa x
Very comfortable; a home from home
My wife and I stayed for four weeks during February and March 2018. The weather was uncommonly wet throughout but we were always cosy warm and dry. The accommodation is modern and has very high quality appliances. The kitchen has everything required for home cooking and entertaining. The beds are comfortable and afforded us a good night’s sleep each night. The property can be found conveniently close to the beautiful town of Silves and is convenient for (but not too close to) the A22 and N124. The owners, Collette and Owen were very quickly available to answer the odd question we had during our stay. We should be very happy to stay here again.
Winter let in the sunny Algarve
This villa is well appointed, immaculate instructions clearly set out in booklets. Any very minor problems sorted out most quickly by the two house managers, Mike and Mel, and she gave us a cherry welcome and clear, helpful tips. Exceptionally well equipped kitchen, many English tv channels, underfloor heating and timed heated towel rails in both bathrooms. The main bed was very comfortable and a huge soft duvet ensured good nights. Rural villa and we expected a really rough approach road but it was actually quite e decent lane.
As this is a central location on the Algarve, we found it convenient for all our favouite places, particularly handy for shopping in Silves. No shortage of outdoor seating and dining facilities in the early year sunshine. We know there are plans to develop the garden and we appeciated phase one of the make over.
A private location and really good sound insulation inside.
The best winter let we have had, and we would happily revisit. Eleven days of happy memories.
Just what we needed!
A very comfortable relaxing two week stay in well equipped villa.
Owner extremely helpful and only ever a phonecall or email away for any problems that might have arisen - but none did!
Hired a car to take us around the Algarve but always good to get back to the peace and quiet of the villa. Because of no rain since May the track was very dusty but the wall to wall sunshine every day made up for that easily for us as visitors.
Thank you Collette x
A very good quality villa in a rural area. Quiet and peaceful away from it all
The villa was exactly as it was detailed on the website and i would quite happily give the villa on its own a 5 star rating. The area was very quiet but close enough to the main town of Silves. The garden is a work in progress and it was difficult to walk around due to certain parts being rather wild and overgrown. With such hot sun it had rather scorched what was left of the grass in the publicity pictures but the above ground pool was very welcoming especially with temperatures in the mid to late 30s. We did unfortunately get rather attacked by mosquitoes but as it was a rural location it was to be expected. Overall and combining the house and the garden issues this is why i have given the whole property 4 stars. Everything about the house is perfect and is very spacious. Everything is provided in the kitchen and the bbq is great. If we had any criticism it would be with the lower patio round the pool area. It was very uneven and not really suitable to walk barefoot on but this is a very small issue far outweighed by the rest of the property and the fantastic equipment provided. I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone. A car is definitely essential. Overall this is a great property for anyone wanting an out of the way place but one which is close enough to the fantasic Algarve beaches.
We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely villa. It was equipped with everything we needed and more. The contact with the owners was very easy and friendly and we really appreciated the detailed instructions for the house and also for restaurants and places to visit. The pool table, table tennis, games etc were a great adddition and much appreciated by our son who called the upstairs garage room his 'chill out room'. We would highly recommend this property.
Coast/Beach: There are plenty of beautiful beaches on the coast of the Algarve. The villa is located in a prime spot with easy access to all of these. The long, sandy beaches at Armacao de Pera and Gale are both just fifteen minutes’ drive away, as are the beautiful quieter beaches at Albandeira and Marinha. This part of the Algarve coast is amongst the prettiest in the world with lovely dramatic clifftop walks and hidden coves to explore. Travel: Faro airport is a 40 minute drive. Lisbon and Seville are 2 hours drive. Car hire is essential and we can recommend a number of car rental companies who have competitive prices and will be waiting at the airport when you arrive. Further Details: It is an ideal base for a relaxing holiday sitting by the pool, lying on the beach, or exploring the Algarve countryside, coast, and local cuisine. For sightseeing visit Silves and its castle, Monchique, the picturesque town of Alte, Portimao, Lagos and Cape St. Vincent. For family activities there are water parks – The Big One (10 mins), Slide and Splash (10 mins). Crazy World has crazy golf, quad bikes, animal park, pool and restaurant (10 mins). Zoo Marine has dolphin, seal and parrot shows with fairground rides (15 mins). Algarve Shopping – shopping, restaurants, cinema - is also a short drive away
