About Helen Earnshaw
Sparrow Hall is a mixed farm, and I run it with the help of friends and my daughter, since my husband died two years ago. I am passionately interested in sheep and cows, and all the wildlife around the farm which at the moment includes nesting barn owls and their chicks! Visitors can engage as much or as little as they want with the farm: all are welcome to enjoy the delights and downfalls of Sparrow Hall Farm!

Dog friendly & comfy cottage
This was a properly dog friendly property, comfy and warm. The owner is on site to welcome you & deal with any problems. Good clean cooker & range of pots & pans. Great to watch the sparrows & swallows while sat at the table.
We enjoyed our stay the cottage was comfortable ,clean and adequate for our needs. Very rural , easy access to other locations and events.
A wonderfully peaceful spot surrounded by fields; swallows and martins and a million sparrows our neighbours! It couldn’t have been more relaxing. A simple but comfortable converted cow byre just in keeping with the surroundings, we had all we needed for for a very comfortable break. Lots of attractions within a short drive from Whitby to Bempton Cliff ( RSPB) seabird sanctuary, the NYM Visitor centre at Danby, and all the gorgeous wild moorland scenery in between. Ideal for us!
basic but adequate
As a working farm it was acceptable we did have some good pub food on the advice off Helen
overall the property could be better presented and maintained.
we enjoyed our stay but many things do need attending in the property. it was generally grubby, undusted and cobwebs. a poor selection of crockery only one dinning chair a very small telly and a heating system with a mind of its own but the one overbearing thing which requires sorting is the disgusting condition of the pillows.
I am glad you enjoyed your stay, certainly when we chatted every day that was the impression I gained. It would have been a good idea if you had mentioned the need for extra crockery and I could have addressed that immediately. Similarly an extra dining chair- my fault, previously an occupant was a wheelchair user so a chair was removed. The heating is oil fired central heating newly fitted in 2015. I admit the insructions provided are confusing to those not familiar with computerised systems but I find people are very different in there heating needs, and it is included in the rental price. Television is small yes. It is freeview. I think its adequate, possibly that reflects my own lack of interest in tv. Cobwebs? high beams, part of living on a farm...grubby? No. All Cottages are cleaned regularly.
The pillows are replaced, thank you for noticing this was needed.
