La Rigeardie is situated in a small hamlet 3 km from Bourdeilles with its chateau, restaurants, cafes and traditional bakery and 10 minutes from the historic town of Brantome, described as the Venice of Perigord, with its cobbled streets and many restaurants, cafes and weekly market. The two gites have been restored to a high standard retaining much of their original charm and character with exposed stone walls and oak beams. Both gites have their own garden and terrace for al fresco dining. The pool is available for all our guests and there are sun loungers for relaxation with views to the garden. There is a trampoline, table tennis, badminton set and football posts in the garden. There are plenty of outdoor activities nearby: walking, cycling, tennis, canoeing along the River Dronne, horse riding and fishing, and numerous places to visit from the many chateau to vineyards and prehistoric sites.

Beverley and Chris are the lovely hosts of Gite Mirabelle where we stayed for a week. The Gite itself ie a wonderful rustic house with everything you could want to self cater and I mean everything, from dishwasher to washing machine. We loved everything about our stay, the pool was fabulous (if not a little cold initially) however with the scorching temperatures we had it was a welcome relief. The surrounding acres of countryside are beautiful, whether you go walking, play football or just gaze from the pool side! Bourdeilles and Brantome are fabulous places to visit. We went canoeing and had a great time. Our holiday to France included 5 nights in Normandy, 3 of those in a treehouse, 3 nights in a Chateau near The Loire Valley and a week in The Dordogne at Gite Mirabelle. The stand out place for us all was Gite Mirabelle. which as we drove away from left us with an empty feeling and a longing to return. Thank you for making our holiday so special. We are planning to go next year!
a great holiday gite with an excellent pool and fully equipped for a great holiday.
The only problem was the lack of wi-fi,which is not available unless you are stood outside the owners home, despite the fact that it is advertised with wi-fi. Could probably stop us going again
This felt very private and peaceful - back from the main road - but very close to two small towns with rivers for canoeing and swimming in. We only travelled within an hour of the gite and saw beautiful countryside with chateaux and pretty towns - so much to do. The property, like the country around it is unspoilt and gorgeous. I especially enjoyed being able to walk out from the house along country pathways with beautiful views over the area. The pool was clean and well looked after, with a large green garden around it. The trampoline and table tennis was right next to our gite. The house was well stocked with everything we needed to cook and eat and enjoy the local food. The bathrooms and bedrooms and the living room were comfortable, with outside eating areas as well as the big dining table inside. I was really impressed by the large spaces within the gite including space to organise swim suits, laundry and hang things out to dry. Beverley was on hand and really helpful and kind. There were a few wasps/flies but not enough to bother us, and no mosquitos or midges. We had a perfect, relaxing stay in this gorgeous place.
The property La Mirabelle is converted farm buildings which provide character. It is located in a rural area providing quiet countryside and in a less touristy area than further south in the Dordogne.
The kitchen and living room were pleasantly furnished and all the domestic appliances work effectively. The cutlery and crockery was good but insufficient in number to allow for a set in the dishwasher and a set in use. (The TV was capable of receiving all UK terrestrial channels)
The very good pool and games area were ideal for active residents. The fruit trees provided plums and figs as ‘scrumping’ was permitted or even encouraged.
The owners lived in the ‘farmhouse’ and were available for enquiries, or assistance if required, without being intrusive
There were however two area which, regrettably are thought to require a mention .
a. Having noted ‘internet access’ on the web site one anticipated being able to log on in the convenience of the accommodation but it was only accessible by sitting outside by the owners house, about 50 yards from the residence. ( unusable if the weather was rainy or windy and difficult during strong sunlight).
B The property is advertised as having three bedrooms. That on the ground floor, whilst being of reasonable size, only has one Velus window, about 30 x 60 cm, situated in the ceiling about 3.5m from floor level.. Many would find this intolerably claustrophobic but the main concern must be the potential risk to occupants in the event of a fire
To conclude this is a very pleasant place to stay apart from the two points which are mentioned to avoid future users a problem or a possible tragedy. (These notes are applicable to La Mirabelle only.)
