The property is part of a 200 year old Gascon farmhouse that has been renovated to include a two double bedroom gite with self catering and an additional first floor large beamed double bedroom with ensuite.
The gite sleeps up to five people and the additional double bedroom can be included to increase the accommodation to 7 people. The gite has a fully equipped kitchen, a living room/dining room, shower room, outside patio with garden furniture and steps leading to the swimming pool with sun loungers and parasols. The house is set in attractive gardens with panoramic views and the garden and swimming pool are solely for the gite occupants. There is a field at the front of the house which includes a large open sided barn with barbecue facilities for eating al fresco and further shady areas for relaxation.
We (two families with young children) just spent a fantastic holiday at Au Roux. This is an old farm house with beautiful bedrooms and furniture. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need like at home. Every little detail is well taken care off (for example, you can find bathrobes in the bedroom and lemon squeezer in the kitchen). The outside areas including swimming pool, garden and BBQ & play patio are very clean. Jane and Geoff are lovely hosts, they made us feel so welcome and were very helpful in recommending us places to go. You can have as much or as little contact with them as you like. Perfect place for family, feel really safe for children running around as it is very quiet. There is a boulangerie which sells baguettes and croissants in the morning within 3 minutes walking (but you need to reserve the croissants the day before if you want to pick them up after 9am). We will definitely come back and thank you very much Jane and Geoff for your amazing place which truly made our holiday memorable.
This is one of the nicest holiday rentals we have stayed in. The gite is very beautiful and stands in large grounds shared with the owners home. We were very warmly welcomed by Jane and Geoff even though we arrived later than expected and they were entertaining friends. They had left a bottle of wine and some other essentials in the dining room which was a lovely touch. During our stay, they were always at hand to offer advice and help when needed but they were never intrusive and just let us get on with our holiday.
The gardens of the gite are magnificent and very large with several outdoor areas including table tennis, table football, darts and other outdoor games. The swimming pool is quite large and a real bonus especially after a hot day visiting local towns.
The accommodation is very clean and tidy and we appreciated all the little extras and essentials that are provided (e.g. towels, linen, loo rolls, basic cooking ingredients, eggs etc.). The bedrooms are very spacious and comfortable and the separate double room and en suite that our daughter and her husband shared is very quaint and unusual.
We had a great holiday and only wished we could have stayed longer.
Many thanks Jane and Geoff for such a wonderful place !!!
Our family of five stayed for a month at Au Roux and we literally cried when we had to leave. We needed to get away and relax and it was perfect in every way! My girls played outside for hours, swam in the pool, chased lizard and ducks and enjoyed every second. They fell in love with Tos and Mignon, the chickens and ducks, and owners Jane and Geoff. The views are stunning from all over the property and Geoff has built lovely nooks to sit and enjoy a book or take it all in. The house and property are immaculately maintained and the flowers are so beautiful. The gite is so well appointed and has everything you could ever need! It is definitely a home away from home. Geoff and Jane we the most amazing hosts and we were spoiled with fresh fruits and veggies from the gardens and orchard. It is truly a very special place. It was also a wonderful home base for us to go on day trips - we hiked in the Pyrenees National Park, visited animal parks, shopped in Toulouse and watched the Tour de France. Nearby, we would recommend having a meal at Chateau Camille and the children enjoyed Le Vert en L'Air for ziplines/ropes courses. It was truly a perfect summer!
Sadly we only stayed for 11 days (which seemed to fly by) and I literally felt like I had to be dragged back to the rat race of Johannesburg, South Africa - kicking and screaming :-( BUT at least with my batteries fully recharged and an appreciation for the country life like I never thought possible.
I've read the other reviews (one of the reasons why people come to a venue in the first place) so don't want to repeat what others have already said - but would rather add / comment further ...
The photos on the website do not do your venue justice - I personally believe with anything that beautiful you have to actually be there to enjoy and appreciate the full extent of it - and the description of your property, the location, layout and facilities offered - what can I say ? but that possibly here your philosophy must have been to rather "under offer" and “over deliver" ?
EVERYTHING was absolutely amazing and far surpassed everything we were expecting - which believe me "ain't easy" - having done extensive travelling, we are used to being comfortable, and at Au Roux we were this AND some :-)
Jeff / Jane - you have an amazing Giet and a property you can be incredibly proud of - you are fabulous people - not to mention the little ones - Mignon (cat), Toss (dog), D + D the 2 Indian Runner Ducks, and the 8 chickens etc. A Great Family and we were certainly a part of it during our stay :-)
Besides ample information guides and brochures, which were left in the rooms on what's happening - where and when and where to visit - in the local and surrounding areas - both Jeff and Jane are a wealth of information in themselves and are only too happy to oblige with anything (nothing seems to little or large)
There is just so much to do and see (games / walks / markets / drives / churches / restaurants / towns / nursery gardens etc) that even just sleeping in and relaxing had to be put on the "agenda"
I will most certainly be recommending Au Roux (Gers, Clermont-Pouyguilles) to anyway and everyone that is considering a break in the countryside - and will definitely be seeing you all again (with other members of my family & friends)
One thing further, The website Recommends Age 55+, Families with children etc - I'd like to say that I'm a decade away from 55+ yet I'd recommend it to my friends a decade younger than myself !! and they'd do the same - so maybe change that to ANYONE who wants a bit of Country Paradise :-)
Until then ....
Au Roux is an idyllic, romantic, beautiful place to stay and Geoff and Jane were the perfect hosts - nothing was too much trouble. We were there for a few days at the end of June and the weather was hot and sunny so we spent lots of time reading and relaxing by the pool. We stayed in the gite with its own living room, kitchen and shower room, all lovingly restored and decorated. The living room goes out onto a lovely patio, garden and pool with all kinds of exotic flowers and shrubs. While we were there we explored the local countryside and restaurants sampling delicious local food and wines. The setting is so peaceful in an undisturbed rural area of France. The dog Pluto and 6 hens are real characters as well. Would highly recommend for a really relaxing holiday. Can't wait to return next year!
This gite was recommended by friends and we had an excellent stay.
Jane and Geoff, the owners were both very friendly and helpful,
yet very discreet at the same time. They obviously take great pride in their property as it it so beautifully kept and cared for.
It is located in a peaceful small village, (near Auch) surrounded by beautiful countryside.
The gite was very comfortable, well equipped (including dishwasher and TV) and spotlessly clean. Although there was no washing machine in the gite, Jane let us use hers, infact, she even very kindly did it for us and hung it out to dry!! We had our own private outside space with table and chairs, just a few steps from the large swimming pool, which was wonderfully refreshing after returning from a days sightseeing.
This was good value for money and all bedlinen and towels are included in the price.
Sadly, we could only spend a week at Au Roux but certainly intend to make a return visit and shall be recommending it to all our friends and family.
The Gers offers something for everyone. At the heart of Gascony, famous for its foie-gras and Armagnac, it is an excellent centre from which to explore the beautiful countryside, historic towns and mountains. There are ancient villages with weekly markets selling local produce, bric-a-brac sales and summer night markets. Au Roux, on the outskirts of the little village Clermont Pouyguilles, is set in a large open valley with views to the snowy peaks of the Pyrenees and the surrounding rolling hillside is full of maize and sunflower fields. Auch, the capital of the Gers and the historical capital of Gascony is just 20 minutes away. Toulouse and Pau with their shopping centres, museums, art galleries and restaurants are always worth a visit. The Gers is also a region of music lovers and hosts a number of festivals including the famous Marciac Jazz Festival, a two week event in August and Mirande's Country Festival in July.
