Farmhouse in Lay-Lamidou, Nr. Navarrenx, Pyrenees Atlantiques, Aquitaine / Dordogne, France - Peaceful Farming Village Location, 1 Hour To The Pyrenees And 1 Hour To The Atlantic Beaches

Set in a quiet farming village with views of the Pyrenees this farmhouse is a perfect place to base yourselves. Very much an original family home,the shaded garden is entirely private and enclosed with stone walls and a gated entrance. There is a stone barn and carport with additional parking. The house is in excellent condition, retaining many of its original features. Bedrooms are light and airy with garden and village views. Good combination of sleeping arrangements suits families and couples alike.

The house is located only 5km from the Bastide of Navarrenx which is a historically fascinating town well serviced with weekly markets, small supermarkets and all manner of patisseries, butchers and local produce. There are a number of very good hotels, bistros, and bars to choose from. Outside the Bastide walls are larger services and Supermarkets. You are close to beautiful old medieval towns famous for their markets such as Oloron Sainte Marie, Sauveterre De Bearn and Salies de Bearn where you can also discover the historic salt spas. Navarrenx is on the River Oloron which is a stunning river and Grade 1 listed for Salmon and Trout fishing. The annual Salmon festival is held in Navarrenx in July and is the culmination of the season.There is much focus on activities on the River as well as opportunities to picnic on large islands and swim in beautiful crystal clear swimming holes.

You are less than an hour to the Atlantic beaches near Biarritz, the Spanish border and the Pyrenees. You have a huge choice of activities including walking, canoeing, kyaking,cycling, skiing, or simply relaxing!

We get most of our guest comments about the garden and the proximity of the house to so many varied things to do. Most people who have taken it for a week have commented that it wasn't long enough as this area was so surprising to them. As a result we have had repeat visits from guests which has been lovely. There are easy opportunities to travel in Northern Spain.

We live in Australia but have full time bilingual caretakers who live locally and who can assist you with anything you need including advice, tourist information or help in any way. They keep the garden and the pool whilst you are there but leave you in privacy unless you require anything.

The most interesting comments we get are that our guests feel they have stayed in a truly french house. They have made comment that possibly due to the retention of the beams and the layout of the house the integrity of the history is still very evident. Coupled with the old barn and the small friendly village it seems they feel very at home quickly.

The other standout comment is having Spain so close and the very interesting mix of cultures that is the Bearn-Basque country.

Loved this beautiful old farmhouse.

A lovely old quirky house in a lovely village. Really enjoyed reading in the secluded garden. The local town Navarrenx is just a bike ride away and the Pyrenees an easy drive. Very well equipped and Steve and Jen the caretakers were extremely helpful and friendly. They are a credit to the owners. Enjoy the pool or go swimming in the beautiful river Orolon. Highly recommended.

THE STAY AT LAY LAMIDOU IN YOUR PROPERTY LUCY WAS MORE THAN WE EXPECTED. ON ARRIVAL AT YOUR HOME WE

WERE EXCITED AND OVERWHELMED OF WHAT WE HAD COME TO. THE CARETAKERS HAD BEEN IN AND HAD LEFT SOME VERY NICE GOODIES AND WINE WITH THE TABLE BEING SET

FOR US.

NAVARRENX OUR NEAREST VILLAGE FOR DINING OUT WAS GREAT, WE ATE AT 2 HOTELS AND 2 RESTAURANTS AND COULD NOT FAULT ANYTHI NG. THE STAFF LOOKING AFTER US

Beautiful,large comfortable farmhouse

We all really enjoyed our holiday at Lay Lamidou. Lots of varied activities including cycling each morning into Navarrenx for bread etc.The pool was lovely and cooling when very hot! Also enjoyed whitewater rafting,high wire climbing, walking in Pyrenees and even found a waterfall and plunge pool to have a swim in! Heaven! This as well as markets and sightseeing!

Jennie and Steve were really helpful and very welcoming which was reassuring and the house very comfortable.Our only problem was our holiday was too short!! Could have stayed for much longer!

All in all a very memorable and enjoyable holiday.

Vive la France!

Fantastic big traditional French property, loved the open plan lounge - dining - kitchen. Lots of outdoor space, great pool. Plenty of good walks from the house. Lots of local markets. Enjoyed a couple of day trips into the Pyrenees.

This is a gorgeous farmhouse in a peaceful setting with beautiful views of the Pyrennes and the surrounding countryside. The house is very comfortable and very well maintained. We were made very welcome. It is a great base to explore this part of South-west France. The nearby town of Naverrenx has cafes, restaurants, supermarket and a lovely patisserie.

We had a fabulous week at Lay Lamidou and surrounds. The area is pretty and we had views of the Pyrennes everyday. The farmhouse is exquisite - well equipped and maintained. Every assistance was given to us. It is a perfect base to explore SW France. Nearby, Navarrenx is a gorgeous village providing our essential needs. Look forward to returning in the not too distant future.

This house and area suits both couples and families alike. the house is spacious enough when full but at the same time welcoming and private. There is as much or as little as you wish to do. Activities are many and varied so depending on the holiday you are after you really do have so many options in this area.

Having the influence of Spain within ready driving reach adds a different dimension to the holiday as the two way influence of these countries is marked in architecture, food and language.

The Pyrenees dominate the landscape at all times of year and with the Atlantic ocean within easy reach makes for a contrasted and interesting mix.
