The Moorings is a large, stylish townhouse in central Whitby which sleeps 12 in 6 double bedrooms (3 double and 3 twin rooms). The house has a contemporary kitchen/diner with oak table seating 12 and two spacious reception rooms each with comfortable seating for 10 people, flat-screen TV and DVD players and a Sky Sports package via TalkTalk in main reception room.. The property has 4 shower/bathrooms (one of which is ensuite). There is an attractive courtyard garden with table, seating and a barbecue. The Moorings is in a great location very close to the centre of town with the benefit of lots of shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs, harbour and beach only a few minutes walk away though in a quiet square.The Victorian seaside town of Scarborough is a 40 minute drive and historic town of York an hour away. Dog friendly (up to 2 dogs by prior arrangement for a small additional charge for each animal). The property has its own dedicated private parking space opposite house for up to 3 cars (and further on street parking permits available on request) The house is not suitable for hen or stag groups.

Our changeover day is generally Friday (and we cannot be flexible on this in school holidays) so unfortunately any request for a 7 night booking to start on a Saturday for example is likely to be declined. Outside school holiday periods though we welcome short break bookings of 3 or 4 nights typically starting on a Friday or Monday. If you would like to book the house please provide some information on your group on your request e.g. family holiday/friends' reunion.

Whitby has become the one of the most popular destinations on the North Yorkshire coast. It is dominated by the cliff top ruins of its 13th century Abbey and famous for its connections with Captain Cook and Dracula. There are many good restaurants locally and numerous very good fish and chips shops including the celebrated Magpie Cafe. There is a good golf course on the cliffs between Sandsend and Whitby. Further to the south is Robin Hoods Bay and the lovely Victorian seaside town of Scarborough (home to the Stephen Joseph Theatre where Alan Ayckbourn premieres all his plays).

A visit to the area would not be complete without a trip to the North Yorkshire Moors (the spectacular scenery was featured on Richard Wilson's 'Great British Drives' programme). The NYMR steam railway operates between Whitby and Pickering taking in some tremendous scenery which featured in the popular television series "Heartbeat" and the James Herriot books.

Though from Yorkshire I now live in London but get back to the area often as we now own 3 holiday properties on the North Yorkshire coast. The Moorings is our latest and we've taken great pleasure in renovating the house throughout to a standard we think our guests will appreciate.

Why Anne Goode chose Whitby

We had been searching for the right house to buy in Whitby for a while when we came across The Moorings. It's in a perfect position right in the heart of Whitby so you can step out of the house and be enjoying a coffee in one of the several delightful cafes within just a couple of minutes. The house also has its own small parking area which as regular visitors to Whitby will know is a major advantage. Despite its central location it's situated in a peaceful, square just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the town to give visitors the best of both worlds.

Great location - ideal for large family

Excellent location - many amenities and the harbour within a couple of minutes walk. So much to do in Whitby we could have done with a few more days! House has everything you need, convenient parking for three vehicles (essential in such a busy town) and plenty of dvds/games console for bored children on rainy days (we only had one!). Highly recommend the Moorings for large family gatherings or groups.

Excellent house in great position

Great spot excellent house in great condition, everything in the house was spotless, and plenty of extra items of cutlery and glasses etc.

Plenty of room for twelve. Close to the town and beach, plus the bonus of parking spaces.

Ideal for a family gathering

Private parking gives hassle free access to this superbly located house. The house is furnished to a high end spec and is very well equipped. Lots of room for all with several well appointed bathrooms. Lovely big kitchen table to gather round too. Fabulous.

simply perfect

Having reached (at last) a period of my life when I don't have to compromise - the "Moorings " hit the spot perfectly as a nostalgic return to holidays with my mam and dad in Whitby - but in much better accommodation - the house is clean, well appointed and is in the dead centre of town - all of us oldies thoroughly enjoyed it - and we're back next year

Impressive and Ideal location

As a family we love Whitby - and for a family birthday celebration we needed a convenient and large house for the stay. The description was perfect and what made the stay more enjoyable was the dedicated parking directly outside of the Moorings.

Internally it's lovely and cosy with amble space for all, well-appointed and great communication with the owner.

It's central location six mins walk to the harbour so quiet street but in easy reach of the town centre....Ideal

Everyone (aged 12 to 80 ) really loved the stay and wholeheartedly recommend staying at the Moorings. Many thanks Anne.

As back ground we had 4 days there and visited Runswick Bay (just up the cost) the beach is wonderful. Couple of days in Whitby town/Abbey/pubs and last day in Scarborough...Friday night meal was at the Marine and that was fab. ENJOY !

Changeover Day:
Changeover day for 7 night bookings is generally Friday. With regret, requests to book 7 nights commencing on other arrival days other than Friday in any school holiday period are likely to be declined. Outside school holiday periods or periods designated as 7 night booking only periods 3 or 4 night short breaks may be requested and these generally commence on Fridays or Mondays. Arrival time is after 3.00 pm on first day of your booking and before 10.00 am on day of your departure

3/4 Night Breaks:

Where minimum stay is indicated as 3 nights it is possible to book a short break of 3 nights commencing on a Friday or Saturday or 4 nights commencing on a Monday or Tuesday and the cost will generally be approximately 75% of the weekly rental rate - please enquire with Owner for a confirmed quote.

All wifi, power, cleaning, bedlinen and towels are included in the cost of your rental.
