About ian robertson
I am a retired civil servant, my wife is German and we have three grown up children. Our own home is in Chandler's Ford, Hants, a 75 minute drive from Swanage. We have a house manager to clean the house after each tenancy and to deal with any matters requiring immediate action (including the hiring out of bed linen and towels.)
ian robertson purchased this House in 2011
Why ian robertson chose Swanage
We love the Isle of Purbeck for its scenery, cliff walks and pleasant, easy going people, many of whom have come to live there from other parts of the UK.
What makes this House unique
A particularly pleasant feature is its south facing garden. Hedging screens it partially from the overview of houses at the top of the Close (this marks the boundary of the estate - the open fields beyond are visible from the upstairs).

Homely and comfortable
We enjoyed our stay. We arranged for the housekeeper to make up beds and provide towels, this was a reasonable extra which l would recommend.
Good quality furniture, television, memory foam mattress and everything you need in the kitchen including tea towels, kitchen roll etc. The house has a homely feel, more traditional than ultra modern. Lovely little back garden.
Position wise, its in a pleasant close, with view of the sea and town from several upstairs windows.
The response from the owner , was prompt and helpful.
VERY GOOD VALUE, 1 MILE FROM THE CENTRE OF TOWN, BUT EASILY WALKABLE. QUIETER THAN CENTRE, EXCELLENT PARKING AND VIEWS OVER TO THE HILLS TO THE NORTH FROM CORFE TO THE SEA AT OLD HARRY ROCKS.
Sea, sun and local buses
We decided to travel by foot, boat, train or bus for the week so left our weary car outside the house for a well earned rest.
The buses are not very frequent unlike London ,but they are great fun, have amazing views and everyone chats....In high season there are more
We went to Corfe castle , Brownsea Island ,Studland Beach, and all were lovely
The house has a lovely view of the sea which we are missing
When it rained, which was not often, we went to the shops in Poole and Bournemouth
Thank you for posting this interesting and favourable comment.
I normally tell guests that a car is pretty much essential. But it clearly is possible to come without. The regular buses are a few minutes walk from the house,---no 40 will take you to Poole via Corfe and Wareham ( where there is a main line station linking London and Weymouth) while the 50 will take you also to Poole via Studland and the Shell Bay to Sandbanks chain ferry. Finally in 2019 there should be a regular train service linking Swanage with Wareham.
Great house, nice location
Great house which had everything you need, very clean and tidy with a nice little garden with seating. Communication with Ian was excellent, thank you and we hope to stay there again.
Lovely comfortable, clean house, will definitely book again.
clean,quiet,well equipped, very good location.
This is a modern three bedroom semi. It is very clean and well equipped. There is a small rear garden which is nicely secluded. The location is quiet but you are only a 20 minute walk into the centre of lovely Swanage town. There is easy access to footpaths just behind the property which take you to the cliffs. Its probably about 40 minutes walk. There are lots are unimproved pastures full of wild flowers and butterflies and of course the coastal scenery is very special..
Thank you, Dale. I'm glad you liked the house and the area. From the end of our Close it is only a one mile cross country walk to get to the spectacular coastal scenery of Worth Matravers and Chapmans Pool.
Poole is 6 miles via the Sandbanks to Shell Bay chain ferry. Dorchester is 24 miles to the west and Wareham 8 miles to the north west. Corfe Castle is 4 miles.
Swanage has a population of 9,600 plus. Accordingly there is a good range of shops, restaurants and banks. A 10 minute walk from the house is the Swanage View Holiday Park with its gym and heated indoor pool. Public access is welcome on day membership terms. The town has a cosmopolitan feel with an international school, theatre, cinema and German coffee shop.
