We are Fabrizio and Lorraine and fell in love with this fantastic unspoilt, green and mountainous area of Garfagnana many years ago due to the amazing views, the wonderful peace, and the real yesteryear, non touristy feel to the entire area. We achieved our dream of coming to live in this little piece of paradise with our two daughters, 10 years ago. We have been letting properties in the area for 12 years (our own properties , and for others via our agency Tuscan Retreats). We also assist friends running Houses in Tuscany with all their booking administration, so we advertise for ourselves, Tuscan Retreats and Houses in Tuscany, the latter of which has been running for 15 years. We get lots of fulfillment from seeing others fall in love with the area and return to us again and again!

Clean well maintained house with nice extras
Clean, well maintained house and facilities. We loved the fresh herbs that was free for use, the real pizza oven, the fresh eggs from the hens in the pen next to the lawn. The saltwater pool was perfect to spend much time in due to the low chlorine content. Very helpful owner. Several nice small villages in the vicinity and pretty close to Luca. If you like to skip driving theres a train station nearby that takes you to Luca and further. We would definitely recommend this house to our friends.
Thank you for your review Anders!
Good to hear you enjoyed your stay and made use of the lovely pool, and the pizza oven as well as regular fresh eggs...
We hope to hear from you again

What a wonderfull place!!
If you like to look at the Mountains and listening to the quietness while the kids are playing in and around the swimming pool, then this is a great place to do it. Lots of kids Space, lots of possibilities for relaxing, reading, cooking. Do go Down the hill to the river. It's yet another play area for grownups and children. The walk to the Castle is a great hike even for children. we were two families 4 grownups and 4 kids at the age of 8-10. Everybody enjoyed every minute. One thing to keep in mind is that you need a car and the roads to and from is very bumpy, steep and narrow which is why trips to the cities like Lucca, La Spezia etc. takes time
Thank you for your review - we are glad you loved this place and the surrounding countryside, with all the space and nature for adults and children alike to enjoy!!
Just for the sake of clarity for future guests, the approach road to the house is a normal country road (fully concreted etc) and access is easy. Some of the local roads are narrow but in almost all places two cars can pass and there are main roads going down both sides of the valley (bendy due to mountains) and they become flat again and less bendy once you get past Castelnuovo (15 min drive) .
Great relaxing holiday!
Two families with young children stayed for 1 week. We had a great time. Lovely views, great pool, very chilled!
Great adventure playground for kids and adults alike less than 1 mile away.
Owner of the villa a really nice chap.
Thank you for your review. We are happy that you had a great relaxing time here!
Everything about Rustico Lamola is amazing - the house, views, location and facilities was perfect! We were a extended family of six with several generations in the same house. As the house has plenty of private spaces, cohabiting was easy. Dinner times could be enjoyed inside and out with large tressles to seat big groups. It was tranquil in the evenings (absolutely silent). Highly recommended!
Thank you for your review, and we are glad your extended family enjoyed the house, the location and the relaxing nature of the peaceful surroundings!
Wonderful house in a great location
We stayed here in August 2015 and had a wonderful time (two families of four, kids aged 12-16). The house is great, especially the large shaded terrace and the pool. Friendly guys arrived to clean the pool and give us delicious tomatoes! Also a beautiful location - views of wooded mountains. Lovely and quiet, but still easy to walk to two nearby villages (San Romano and Camporgiano). Lots of interesting and beautiful places to visit within an hour's drive, including walks in the mountains. This part of Tuscany is cooler and more peaceful than the South. We had a great holiday and we did not want to leave...
Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. We are really glad you had a wonderful time and enjoyed this stunning location! We look forward to welcoming you again and will be happy to offer a small discount as a returning guest.
Travel: Car hire essential. Closest airport Pisa - 90 min drive Distances: The property is situated 1.5 km from the village of San Romano, which has a bar, & small supermarket and is situated below a beautiful ancient fortress from where there are stupendous views... The village also hosts the local tree climbing, and zip wire park in the midst of the forest - perfect for when it is too hot to stay in the sun. Take a picnic! The house is also just a couple of kms from Camporgiano which has a couple of bars, some restaurants, castle, station etc. Further Details: Further afield is the town of Castelnuovo which is a 15 minute drive, and has all facilities – bars, restaurants, shops, supermarkets, famous Thursday morning market, and summer festas sometimes with live music. The beautiful hilled mediaeval town of Barga, known for its art and good restaurants, as well as its architecture, duomo, good restaurants and regular outdoor music is just 30 minutes away . The breathtaking medieaval walled city of Lucca just under an hour away, and is a good day out for shopping, sightseeing, opera and for meandering around, or cycling around its fully intact walls. Pisa is an hour and 30 min drive for both a day out in the City visiting the tower, and for the airport. Florence is a 2 hr trip for a longer day out. All in all a perfect mix of rural retreat, with a mere 10-minute drive taking you up into the mountains, and the Natural Park of Orecchiella for wonderful walking, unusual wildlife and rare fauna; bocce and cheese throwing, but also a good base for exploring the towns of the area.
