About MICHAEL F PARKES

We have always loved Devon and Dartmoor in particular, and upon retirement, relocated from the Midlands,to Bovey Tracey, having bought Black Hill View a few years previously. We are knowledgeable about great walks and places to visit and are happy to advise our guests about outings tailored to their tastes. That's why we provide O.S. maps and guide books for their use during their stay.

MICHAEL F PARKES purchased this bungalow in 2006

Why MICHAEL F PARKES chose Dartmoor

We visited the same property in the 90's, when it was owned by someone else. We found Manaton to be a jewel on Dartmoor and fell in love with the lush landscape, the woodland walks and streams and the proximity to so many lovely places further afield. When we were searching for a holiday home for ourselves years later, we found it was for sale and felt it was meant to be. We have lovingly furnished it for our family and guests. Indeed, many of our guest comments in the visitors' book testify to our success in this.It has been described as "a home from home"

What makes this bungalow unique

The bungalow is private and well-maintained,fully double-glazed and insulated, with every comfort we can think of to make your stay enjoyable and relaxing. Our guest book contributors frequently comment upon the comfort of the bungalow, the excellent location and the fabulous view.

We do ask you to mention any damage or malfunctions of toasters etc so that we can replace before the next let. We clean the property thoroughly between each let, so no need for you to spend the morning of your departure hoovering etc. All we ask is that you do your washing up and put rubbish in bins.

We can recommend the pub nearby and also Ullacombe, a farm shop which provides delicious microwaveable meals. The breakfasts fron 8-30 every day are recommended.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A very lovely cottage to stay in. We enjoyed the walks, the villages, and basking on the balcony.

As wildlife lovers, we enjoyed seeing many different species of birds not seen at home;a young nuthatch learning to fly hit the window and was a bit dazed but after a few minutes, ruffled his feathers and flew off.

We hope to come again in the Autumn to see the the autumn colour.

Black Hill View..........................peaceful

  • 5 of 5

This was a fantastic location! It was very peaceful with an awesome view of Black Hill from the French windows.

The apartment was fully equipped with everything we needed and more.

It is just walking distance from the beautiful Becky Falls and even closer to some amazing woodland walks.

There was even a pub conveniently down the road if desired. It is a very quiet and tranquil location and all there is to be heard are the chirpings of birds on nearby trees……….brilliant for anyone who just wants to relax and reflect.

The bungalow was pristine clean and owners had kindly provided towels, soap, milk, tea, coffee ,sugar and some lovely Cornish biscuits which we thought was very kind.

Would definitely recommend this location.

The property is cosy, comfortable and very well equipped. The owners made us feel very welcome and made sure we had all everything we needed for a pleasant stay.

The Dartmoor area is beautiful and it was a very relaxing and peaceful stay.

We hope to return for a longer stay in the future to explore the area more and would love to stay at Black Hill View again.

Blackhill View

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this bungalow on the edge of Dartmoor. Just the sort of place to get away from the hustle of modern day city living. The bungalow itself is well equipped. You could easily make it a permanent home. We were well satisfied both with the bungalow and the location. The neighbors are very friendly and helpful. Don't need to get the car out to go for an evening meal. Just walk around to the local pub where you can get a very nice meal, without breaking the bank.

Highly recommended.
