The apartment is one of Reykjavik's listed houses, in the best spot you could find, a residential road 600 metres from the Hallgrimskirka Cathedral. It is one of the highest points in Reykjavik on the hill overlooking the bay and the mountains beyond. Refurbished sensitively keeping many original features while having all modern comforts.
We are a British/Icelandic family living in England. We live in a boarding school and go to Iceland as often as we can to our wonderful cottage. It is the most beautiful place on earth and wonderful at all times of the year. Winter is crisp and often snowy, the northern lights dance on top of the mountains as we sit snugly inside watching them. We hope you will love it as much as we do.
I am born and bred in Reykjavik and know the city like the back of my hand, this is by far the best spot in the whole city. I looked for a long time for exactly this location, it's geographical importation is wonderful, high up on a hill in an old traditional listed building. there is a very bohemian atmosphere with trendy cafes and restaurants all around, the local swimming pool was another reason. Even though it is so central it is a residential street with families.
Location is key. All amenities and attractions within walking distance.
Two friends and I stayed for a week in this perfectly located apartment in Reykjavik. Parking is available very close by at the Hallgrimskakirja. I would recommend waiting to rent a car until you are ready to leave the city, because we were able to go everywhere we wanted to go on foot until we did the Golden Circle and other out-of-town locales. There is a coffee house that has pastry and a bakery that has coffee across the street. There is also an ice cream (gelatto) shop nearby. Like most city apartments the bedrooms do not have lots of room, so we had to use the living room floor for some suitcases. That, however, was because we packed much more clothing than we needed. While I recommend this property for many groups, be advised that there is a narrow staircase that leads to the apartment. It is not for the mobility impaired. It was great to have a washer and dryer available. it meant we could have clean clothes for our second week driving around the island. We had a wonderful time and would certainly come back again.
I stayed here for a week in June 2015 with a friend. There were meant to be four of us staying, but two pulled out. The apartment is set in a residential district away from (most of) the touristy hotels. The cathedral is less than two minutes up the hill, and the walk to town is very straight forward and takes around 10 minutes. The main shopping street is two streets down, and there are many bars and restaurants to explore down there; ranging from cheap eats to fine dining (for those travelling on a budget, we recommend the Drenkin grill opposite the apartment and the Noodle stop turning right down down Laugavegur). We arranged the tour pickups and airport transfers with the flybus from the Hotel Leifur Eiriksson; 2 minutes walk opposite the cathedral. The walk to the promenade along the shore takes 5 minutes. Overall, we couldn't ask for a better location! The apartment also has fantastic views over the harbour toward the snow-capped mountains beyond; which is even more magical at sunset (which lasts a very long time in mid June!).
The apartment is open plan; with an updated traditional style. The kitchen has everything you need to self cater; there is a dining area and a sitting area with a free view with a few English channels (including kids channels). One bedroom has two single beds, another is a double bed and the sofa also folds out into a bed. There was plenty of space for the two of us; it would have been cosy with four, but there is still enough space for a comfortable stay.
The owner was lovely and extremely helpful, and ready to answer any questions we had. She also went the extra mile to suggest places to visit and tips to make our stay more enjoyable.
And it is a lot cheaper (with four paying) than the cheapest hotel!
We have just come back from an amazing week in Iceland. We are a family of five and were very comfortable in this home. It was very warm and welcoming with excellent facilities.
It is very well positioned for sightseeing on foot around Reykjavik and easily assessable if self driving. Parking is metered but cheap and easy to find. Reykjavik is very much on the doorstep. There is a well stocked Bonus two streets down and the coffee shop over the road is recommended.
The owner was very friendly and helpful when booking, leading up to and during the holiday.
The apartment is a true gem and if we are lucky enough to visit this magical country again we would have no hesitation in booking here again.
