About David Ceredig-Evans
I live in West Cornwall with my wife, children, 3 labradors and Tito the cat! I work as a plumber during the day, and a musician the rest of the time. My wife is an artist, painting and potting where we live.
David Ceredig-Evans purchased this Barn in 1995
Why David Ceredig-Evans chose Sancreed
We fell in love with the location as we drove up the 3/4 mile unmade lane and found a lovely unspoilt granite cottage and outbuildings set apart in its own grounds of about 6 acres.
What makes this Barn unique
Chycoll Barn is situated up a 3/4 unmade track, in a completely unspoilt rural location yet only 15mins drive from the nearest surfing beaches at Gwenver and Sennen Cove. You can walk straight out of the property into glorious moorland situated several hundred feet above sea level giving distant views of the sea and coastline. The wildlife is extensive in this area with much to interest and entertain. On clear nights the stars are spectacular.

A lovely comfortable stay surrounded by stunning Cornish views
We were warmly welcomed by our hosts on arrival who had already lit the wood burner for us. The barn is well equipped with ample kitchen equipment for those who like to cook when they have time! The barn location is perfect for exploring both the moors and the coastline. Our stay was topped off by visits from the neighbourhood owls at night.
Very special location
Chycol is in beautiful granite moorland, Iron age remnants all around and the rest of the world seems far, far away. We felt very privileged and lucky to have a place in this private mysterious landscape. Corallie and David are warm, friendly, sensitive hosts and there was cake waiting for us on our arrival to remind us that we weren't actually very far at all from all the wonders and pleasures of Cornwall.
The two bedrooms are on the ground floor - my wife and I were very comfortable in the master bedroom; 2 children would have been very happy in the second room - there are two loos, two showers, endless hot water. Upstairs, the open plan living-dining-kitchen is a lovely space to be in. The kitchen is very well appointed and easy to cook in; the TV works well; the wi-fi is great.
We were very happy.
Idyllic Cornish Retreat
Thank you to David and Coralie for opening up their beautiful property for our week quiet getaway exploring the West of Cornwall. Not only does Chycoll provide all the peace and quiet you could want, it does so in the most beautiful of settings. The renovated barn provides all the comforts and amenities you could need for your stay. There is much to explore in the area to keep you busy if you choose. You will be warmly welcomed not only by your gracious hosts but by a lively cast of critter characters including an adorable terrier and mating doves. We hope we will have the opportunity to return again in the future!
We were delighted to welcome Tricia, Andy and Bryony to Chycoll Barn. It's always encouraging to find folk who appreciate the peaceful surroundings that we can provide here. We look forward to welcoming them back at some point in the future.
Lovely stay at Chycoll barn
We loved our stay at Chycoll barn. The place was very comfortable, clean and homely. David and Coralie were excellent hosts. We got there very late at night and I was worried we won't have milk for our 2 year old daughter. I was pleased that they had so considerately kept milk and a cake for us.
Thank you Coralie for taking the trouble to guide us to Carn Euny. It was an experience we will remember. Ria loved playing with Mango and still remembers her.
It was such perfect seclusion. Also an excellent central point to do all the touristy bits around. We had an amazing stay and the memories will stay with us forever.
We so enjoyed meeting this family and were very glad that everything went so well for them. Carn Euny has now acquired some more fans!
Really cosy hideaway
Thank you so much for your hospitality. We had a wonderful 3 nights at Chycoll. Such a beautiful setting. We loved it so much, we ended up buying something quite similar just nearby in Morvah, so fingers crossed, we will soon be neighbours!
Well, that's an exciting development! We're so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay so much that you've decided to move to West Penwith. We look forward to meeting up again.
Very peaceful and quiet due to its remote location
Very quiet situation but plenty of interesting places to visit and explore. The owners are extremely nice and helpful. Liked the setup of the barn conversion.
We thoroughly enjoyed hosting this group from London. Also, we were really glad that the horse riding went so well!
15min. drive to the golden sands of Gwenver (great surfing) beach, part of Whitesand Bay which includes Sennen Cove (excellent family facilities). The beautiful beaches at St Ives are 25mins drive away, and the beaches around Penzance and Marazion (windsurfing) are 20min. drive away.
Journeying by car down to West Penwith is much easier now with the M4/M5 and the A303 and A30. Trains into Penzance take a lovely scenic route along the coast in the latter part of the run. Lands End airport is 10min drive away (flights to the Isles of Scilly take 15mins) & Newquay airport is about an hour's drive away. Flights from there to the Isles of Scilly take 30mins.
If you are not travelling to Cornwall by car, then car hire is essential if you are planning to explore the area.
Carn Euny Iron Village is only a few hundred yards away!
St Just (3 miles) has a supermarket, Post Office, several excellent pubs and art galleries.
Penzance (6 miles) has several supermarkets (Tesco has 24hr shopping, online facilities and home delivery) and historic buildings and museums.
St Ives (15 miles) has a wide selection of art galleries, boutiques and great restaurants.
There are excellent Farmers' Markets in Paul (4 miles), Pendeen (4 miles), Penzance (5 miles)
