The Orchard is a charming "log cabin" style single story cottage, set in a 1 acre apple orchard, in one of the finest valleys of South Devon. It is sheltered, tranquil and charmingly rural. In Winter it is snug and cosy with an open log fire. Sheep, horses and red devon cattle all graze nearby. The cottage has been sympathetically improved to provide all modern amenities whilst preserving its original features and 'cottagey' feeling. It has 2 well equipped bedrooms, a comfortable sitting room, with open fire and French windows to the South. There is a modern well equipped kitchen. Parking is easy, off road and can take 2-3 cars. It is surrounded by a safe garden and orchard with lawns and patio and plenty of room for children to play and explore. Modbury is situated in the South Hams, bounded by Dartmoor and the sea. It is an ideal touring base for the numerous visitor attractions at Plymouth, Salcombe, Torquay and Cornwall. Sorry, no smoking inside and no pets.

This little chalet type cottage is next to our own property. We love this area and know it is a wonderful holiday location. Over the last 5 years everybody who has stayed has loved the location and the cottage. They have also enjoyed having us as neighbours who are always available and ready to help with any situation. We also enjoy giving advice on the area.

We, personally look after all aspects of the cottage and always maintain very high standards.

A delightfully peaceful little house in Devon; we enjoyed every moment! So many wildflowers.

A little gem. All you could need for a getaway in a perfect location with a warm welcome. We shall certainly be back.

We have really enjoyed the cottage; it is lovely and cosy and the views are splendid.

We have had an absolutely wonderful time during our stay at The Orchard. We have found it a very peaceful and relaxing place to base ourselves while we have been discovering beautiful South Devon. I am absolutely sure we will be coming here again - wonderful in every way!

This was our third visit to the cottage. We enjoyed it just as much as before. Thank you for another lovely holiday and for the apples!

Outside: The cottage is surrounded by a pretty sheltered garden, well maintained and safe. There is also the orchard which can be played in and walked in. There is a patio with patio furniture. This is private and very pleasant on a sunny day. Utility Room: Room to store equipment in covered outdoor area Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen, towels, tea towels provided. Whole cottage and linen fully clean prior to each tenant.

There are several beautiful beaches within easy reach. Mothecombe, Bigbury, Salcombe. The nearest beach is 10 minutes drive.


The nearest railway stations are Totnes or Plymouth. Exeter Airport is 45 minutes drive.


The small market town of Modbury is less than a mile away with village shops for every need, including a small supermarket, a delicatessen, family butcher, baker, art gallery and several antique shops. It is within walking distance.

Further Details:

There is a small supermarket in Modbury and a large supermarket near Ivybridge, 15 minutes drive. Plymouth is a large and attractive coastal city with multiple shops and amenities. 30 minutes drive. It is also easy to drive into Cornwall.

For bookings less than a week "Price per Night" applies (min 3 nights) Cheque (payable to James Burnell-Nugent), BACS, or debit/credit card, or Pay Pal. Fully refundable until 2 weeks before booking start date. Balance of rent payable on arrival, by BACS, cash, cheque or Pay Pal. Changeover day Saturday. Depart by 10am - Arrive after 2pm.

Changeover Day:
Saturday is the changeover day. At off peak times of the year we are happy to be flexible.
