Beautiful recently renovated detached Barn located in a lovely hamlet called Leadmill in Hathersage. Pond View Cottage is situated next to a working Trout Farm and adjacent to the Owners home and it has its own pond side location. The Barn and Pond have been recently renovated. The Mill Pond was originally associated with a 17th century lead smelting mill in the hamlet and it has been restored to safeguard its historical, archaeological and wildlife features. Many of the original traditional features of the Barn have been preserved whilst offering a stylish comfortable retreat within. It is a great place for a relaxing break and to explore the Peak District. There are lovely walks straight from the doorstep. The River Derwent passes south of the village and at Leadmill there is a very picturesque bridge just 2 minutes away from the Barn from where you can take pleasant riverside walks through the woods. It's only a short walk to the shops, cafes and bars in Hathersage.

About Bal Rotherham

Hi - we are James & Bal Rotherham. We live in The Hermitage which is the house adjacent to Pond View Cottage with our 2 young children. James was born in Hathersage and has never left! It has a great local community. I moved in to The Hermitage after we got married.

James owns and runs the Trout Farm located near to the Barn. The Farm produces brown and rainbow trout for restocking rivers and reservoirs. The Farm has been in existence for over 40 years.

Why Bal Rotherham chose South Yorkshire

We decided to lovingly restore the Barn and the Mill Pond to try and preserve their historical importance and archeological impact within the hamlet.

Pond View cottage is based in Hathersage, a beautiful part of the country, set within the Peak Park which was the first national park. There are lovely walks and great cycling country routes to suit everyone.

Hathersage is a popular place to visit for those that love the great outdoors or for those in search of legendary heroes such as Little John from the Robin Hood tales or literacy greats such as Charlotte Bronte. There is something on offer to suit most interests!

What makes this barn unique

Pond View Cottage is situated in an excellent location in a very popular village with great amenities. It is stylish, cosy and contemporary with stunning views. It has the unique aspect of being located right next to a Mill Pond.

It offers a great base from which to explore the Peak District locations. The Owners are readily available to offer advice on where to visit.

There are great walks from the door step and a wonderful old country inn within 2 minutes walking distance that offers great food and beers & wine if you don't feel like cooking!

Super King Size Double Bed (which can be seperated into twin beds upon prior request) with a great mattress for a comfortable nights sleep. Notes on accommodation: The Accommodation is arranged over 2 floors. The living accommodation is on the 1st floor to take full advantage of the surrounding views and the sleeping accommodation is situated on the ground floor. There is an external stone staircase on the outside of the barn leading to the Front Door on the 1st Floor. There is a further internal wooden staircase leading from the open plan living area down to the bedroom and the bathroom. All power is included in the rental price. The gas central heating is thermostatically controlled with a combination boiler for instant hot water. There is an electric living flame fire in the lounge for creating an additional cosy feel to the room. Smoking is not allowed within the property. Bluetooth speaker system with NFC technology-also connects remotely to mobile phones, tablets, iPads and MP3 players to play your own music. Unfortunately the property is not suited for Pets. An outdoor kennel may be an option -please contact for further information. Outside: Adjacent to the Barn there is a working Trout Farm. There is a large shared outdoor seating area next to the Barn on a lovely patio overlooking the Mill Pond. Outdoor garden furniture (with Parasol) is provided. In addition there is another smaller private outdoor seating area (great for having a coffee or a glass of wine whilst looking across the Mill Pond) again with outdoor seating furniture. Utility Room: Designated outdoor space for cleaning walking boots etc. available together with a secure drying room for hanging wet clothes after outdoor activities. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels provided. Additional linen and towel changes can be offered for Guests staying for longer periods. The Barn is cleaned between visits. Other: Outdoor Storage- secure place to lock bikes and equipment -Further storage available upon request.

Pond View Cottage

We were looking for a cosy little hideaway for a few days over New Year. Pond View was perfect, very well equipped and beautifully renovated. James and Bal have worked really hard to make sure that everything is perfect for guests and we were really happy and content, particularly coming back to the cottage after some very strenuous ten mile walks - all of which can be taken from the cottage without using the car. The pub opposite is expensive but nice - Hathersage village is only a short walk (but take a torch at night), and has lots of lovely places to eat and drink. The cottage was ALWAYS warm, very generously heated and the shower is absolutely lovely. Very luxurious master bedroom and lots of storage space. We would really recommend this cottage and hope to stay there again in the future. It's a superb location for walking and the owners are really keen to make every thing the cottage has to offer perfect for guests. Absolutely lovely, can't wait to return.

Fantastic cottage!

A wonderful few days at this gorgeous little cottage. The owners are extremely helpful and most welcoming. Such lovely surrounding places to visit - all in all I would thoroughly recommend this holiday accommodation - ideal for a couple. We will definitely consider returning at some point in the future! Quaint and in a lovely location

We had a lovely stay at this cottage. It was small but had everything we needed and it was in the perfect location, a walk away from the village of Hathersage. We really enjoyed the food, service, and atmosphere at the Plough Inn and ate there a few times - how convenient being just across the road! We also loved the food at the Indian restaurant in town.The walks in this area were the highlight of our stay. It is so beautiful everywhere you look. Bal and James were great hosts. I would easily recommend this cottage to anyone.

Peaceful and charming cottage

Just outside of town and withing easy walking distance, this cottage has a beautiful view and location. Everything worked perfectly and amenities were nice, and facilities clean. Owner was very nice and helped us with country walk routes, restaurants, etc. Area is beautiful for walking, so enjoyed a couple of those, Sudeley Castle and Gardens, and Snowshill Manor (very interesting). Recommend.

A superb place for walkers. Excellent shops in Hathersage, good public transport and 4 good pubs to enjoy. The place itself is well equipped for 2 and more than adequate.We hope to return. Cannot give a higher recommendation.

Cosy cottage for couples

Pond view cottage is a cosy and well equipped apartment perfect for a country getaway. My girlfriend and I couldn't believe our luck when the cottage was available over New Years as we were looking to have a quiet one this year. Bal and James were fantastic hosts, from communication via email, to picking us up from the train station as we did not have a car. James gave us a quick tour of Hathersage which is a beautiful rural town with coffee shops, restaurants and some great pubs of which James can advise brilliantly. The town is about a 10/15 min casual walk from the cottage, which is also opposite another lovely pub. Inside the cottage is very well furnished with attention to detail and a great use of space. The upstairs kitchen/lounge has all the mod cons, and a floor heater which was great whilst cooking. The cooker and oven is a great size and all the utensils and cleaning products you will need are provided. The tv, Bluetooth speaker and WiFi were a nice touch and meant that there was plenty to do whilst in the cottage. Also provided are a range of leaflets and guides for walks in the area which were very useful. We enjoyed the local Indian takeaway, took a walk in the Peak District and visited Chatsworth house. All in all a perfectly restful yet exciting place to go away which we would very much recommend.

Further Details:

Hathersage is a popular centre for walkers and climbers. The east side of the village has great moorland walks overlooked by a line of gritstone edges of which Stanage Edge is the longest being 3 miles long. You can walk up to Stanage Edge from the Barn. There are breathtaking views from the edges of the Hope Valley.

There is a lot to see and do. There are plenty of walking routes, cycling trails, abseiling, climbing and riding routes. The Derwent Valley Heritage Trail runs close to the village.

Pond View Cottage is an a great setting, there is an old Country Inn only 2 minutes walk from the Barn that serves great gastro pub food. You can walk into the village where there are a choice of restaurants, pubs and cafes. There are 2 Banks with ATM's, a pharmacy, a health centre, dentist and shops.

Only 5 minutes walk from the Barn is the David Mellor kitchen shop and cutlery factory situated in an unusual round building. There is a large cafe on site and there are regular tours of the specialist design cutlery making factory.

There is a regular Hope Valley Country Market in Hathersage on a Friday morning.

This really is a great place to take a well deserved relaxing break in the Peak District.

Changeover Day:
We can be flexible on Changeover Days but our preferred option would be Friday to Friday for weekly bookings - 3 night weekend stays from Friday to Monday and 4 night midweek stays running from Monday to Friday.

Notes on prices:
The cost of 3 or 4 night stays are 60% - 70% of the weekly stay rate.
