Villa in Tavira, Eastern Algarve, Portugal only 15 minutes walk to the centre.
About Steve Gray
We first visited Tavira in 2006 with 2 of our children and immediately fell in love with the unspoilt city on the banks of the river, the stunning beaches and blue seas, the nature reserve in the Ria Formosa with an abundance of wildlife and of course the sunshine!! After a couple more family visits we decided to buy our first house there which is a 5 minute walk from Casa Mott. For 4 years we spent 7 or 8 weeks a year in charming Tavira. We then bought Casa Mott early in 2013 as both a family home and as a very successful holiday rental business as it had been fully booked for the summer for 10 years. In April 2014 we moved to Tavira on a permanent basis so we are always on hand to look after our guests in the villa. In 2018 we sold the villa and have been retained to manage it for our guests. We hope that you love Casa Mott as much as we do!!

Why Steve Gray chose Municipality of Tavira
Casa Mott is a spacious private villa in a quiet residential area consisting of unique villas. The well maintained private pool is surrounded by plenty of sunbathing space. The large upstairs balcony boasts a sea view and the Rattan furniture allows 6 people to enjoy the sun all day. It is only a 15/20 minute to walk into the centre of Tavira with a few cafes and shops enroute. Holidays in Tavira are addictive. People fall in love with it!! The small city has long held attractions which work their magic to ensure that many visitors return again and again. Tavira is unspoilt. The city is on the banks of the river, offers plenty of cafes/restaurants, stunning beaches and blue seas, the nature reserve in the Ria Formosa with an abundance of wildlife and of course the sunshine!! Tavira is an ancient town dating back pre Roman times. It stands at an important strategic position at the mouth of the beautiful River Gilao, and is divided into two parts by the river, spanned by a beautiful arched Roman bridge. It's a town of twisting streets, picturesque houses, gabled roofs, quaint churches, an exquisite main square, a riverside lined with good restaurants, vibrant early morning markets and the ruins of a Moorish castle. There are no high rise apartment blocks in Tavira!! Regular boats sail through the Ria Formosa nature reserve to the stunning island beach on Ilha de Tavira. There are numerous other beautiful beaches within easy reach.
What makes this Villa unique
Casa Mott is a very spacious, detached traditional Portuguese family villa in the quiet and exclusive urbanisation of Quinta da Barra in Tavira which is 30 minutes from Faro airport and 25 minutes from the Spanish border. It is only a 15/20 minute mainly flat walk into the centre of Tavira. A taxi home after a meal in one of the fantastic and reasonably priced restaurants is just over 4 euros. Quinta da Barra was the first urbanisation in Tavira and consists only of unique and very traditional Portuguese villas. Built around 30 years ago, Casa Mott is set back from the road and very private as it is not overlooked and is set in fenced/walled mature gardens containing olive, orange, lemon, lime and grapefruit trees. The villa is very spacious and provides sea views from the large south facing first floor terrace. Outside there is a large pool with Roman steps surrounded by plenty of sunbathing space along with a brick built barbeque.

A gem in Tavira
My wife and I both in our seventies spent 10 nights at this most lovely villa. We did hire a car but for most of the time it was on the drive. We walked into Tavira for breakfast, walked back, spent time around the pool, had G&T ,walked back into Tavira for dinner, walked back to villa for nightcap. No taxis. Best holiday ever
I doubt if the hard mattresses would prevent us from returning.
Wonderful place to stay
My partner and I are just back from a week staying at Casa Mott. If you want to get away from it all, Casa Mott is the place for you. The villa has everything you need for a relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings. On arrival, we were greeted by our wonderful hosts Steve and Allison; their love of Tavira just emanates from them both. They both spent time giving us directions to the centre of Tavira, recommending places to eat and drink, and answering any questions we had about the villa, they are a fabulous couple. They also left a welcome pack for us which was very much appreciated after arriving off a flight! The centre of Tavira is only a 20 minute walk away where you will find plenty of great restaurants. As my partner is vegetarian we ate at a wonderful restaurant called Bio.Tequim two nights and also had lunch there! You will be greeted warmly by the owners Andrea and Marcel and the food is amazing! Another restaurant we would recommend is Aquasul. One thing I would say is book a table as the restaurants tend to book up very quickly! Tavira itself is a wonderful town to meander through the streets, there is so much to see. Cross over the Roman Bridge where you will find the ruins of the Castle which is a great place to visit. We got the ferry over to the beach (a euro each way!) one of the days, it is definitely worth doing; the beach is amazing and there are lots of nice restaurants there for a spot of lunch. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings then Casa Mott is the place for you.
Lovely Villa on outskirts of Tavira
This was a great villa for our first trip to Tavira. It's a good 20min walk to the centre of Tavira but the walk is suitable for all families if you are relatively mobile. Steve and Alison were great hosts and there were lots of little extras such as olive oil, herbs and spices and a welcome pack when we arrived. The villa was lovely and spacious and very modern. My only comment would be that the beds are very hard, which was a bit of a shock to begin with but we did get used to it quite quickly.
Many thanks for your review of Casa Mott. We were very pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We hope to welcome you back again in the future.

Amazing 2 weeks in superb villa Casa Mott
From the moment we met the owners on the first day with such a warm welcome, showing us around the property, and kindly providing a welcome pack with the essentials (wine was lovely, thanks), we felt at home, perfectly safe and looking forward to our two weeks away.
The villa had everything we required, stocked very well and plenty of room for all 5 of us. The smart TV and great wifi kept the teenagers entertained during chill out times whilst the roof terrace and pool areas were great for peace and quiet and amazing sun traps (and no mosquitoes!).
AC was a welcomed addition and combined with the comfy beds provided a great nights sleep.
All in all an amazing two weeks, thanks Allison and Steve for a fantastic holiday!
Thank you for such a great review Rob. We were delighted to receive your message saying you’d loved every minute of your 2 week stay!! It was a pleasure to have you all as guests.
We hope to welcome you back again in the future.

Casa Mott was a great place for us to have a holiday. Steve and Alison met us at the house, explained everything about the house and were very welcoming.
The house was very clean, set in a lovely garden. The pool was great to cool off in. The pool side is a sun trap so even with the sea breeze it felt really warm.
Allison pointed us towards some restaurants in Tavira which were listed in the house info folder - all great.
We had a lovely relaxing time , and will book for next year. Great place to stay!!
Thank you for a fantastic review!! We are really pleased that you all enjoyed your stay at Casa Mott.
Looks like we’ll have to try more of the lovely Tavira restaurants so that we can make suggestions when you return next summer!!

It's only a 5 minute drive to the nearest beach or a 5 minute drive to catch the boat at Quatro Aguas to the stunning Ilha de Tavira the beautiful island beach overlooking the Atlantic Ocean which stretches for miles along the Ria Formosa. It offers cafes/restaurants, and areas of sun loungers to hire. Within 400 yards you will find a largely deserted stretch of lovely clean white sand with the waves rolling in from the sea. During the summer months boats also run from the centre of Tavira to the island.
Faro airport is only 30 minutes away. The Spanish border is around 20 minutes drive. Seville airport is about a 90 minute drive.
There is an excellent train service from the local station which is a 10 minute walk away and runs the length of The Algarve. It is also possible to pick up a connection from Faro to take the mainline train to Lisbon and Porto.
Taxis are easy to book and not expensive. We have a local firm that look after Casa Mott guests. They charge 4 - 5 euros to/from the centre of Tavira. They also offer discounted airport transfers in private taxis for our guests.
A car is by no means essential as shops/cafes/restaurants are all within a few minutes walk but may make life easier if you want to go further afield.
Tavira centre is less than a mile, the nearest beach is about 1.5 miles, Tavira Plaza shopping centre is also under a mile.
It is around 30 minutes to Faro from Tavira.
Water parks are about 30 minutes away and golf less than ten minutes. There are at least 5 golf courses within a 20 minute drive.
