La Petite Baronnie is a traditional French rustic gîte converted from animal stables and sleeps two to six people in three bedrooms. We also have a self-contained ground-floor apartment that sleeps two to four people in two bedrooms. The gîte, apartment and heated pool have stunning south-facing views across the Dordogne valley. Ideally situated close to Sarlat with easy access to the many local chateaux and picturesque medieval towns including Beynac, Castelnaud and Domme. Cycling and canoeing on the Dordogne and Vézère valleys. Several excellent restaurants and local boulangerie nearby. A welcome pack of essentials and bottle of regional wine await your arrival. The whole site including the swimming pool benefits from free WiFi.
I left a stressful job as a maths teacher at an academy in Gloucestershire to pursue our dream of a new life in a new country. When we fell in love with La Baronnie we knew the cottage would be perfect for a gite. We hope you love being here as much as we do!
We live on site, keep a low profile but are available if required. Equally, if you wish to be private on your holiday, that's fine too, we won't be offended!
Shona Wisedale purchased this apartment in 2013
The Dordogne area is just gorgeous with a wealth of history, places to visit and a wonderful climate. We viewed over 30 properties before choosing La Baronnie. Our sunny, south-facing location amongst wooded hills with rocky outcrops is idyllic, with spectacular chateau forts and honey-coloured medieval towns and villages nearby, who could want for more? We love the house and its views, its warm-coloured stone, traditional french windows, shutters and pigeonnier tower, its quirky layout and character, numerous patios, woodland, pool with a view and traditional French cattle-stalls in the gîte.
On the south-facing slope of the Dordogne valley, our property benefits from its sunny position, providing a real rural feel yet just minutes from the major tourist sites of the Perigord Noir including the medieval town of Sarlat and the castles of Beynac and Castelnaud and the Chateau des Milandes. Our pretty nearby town of St Cyprien has a vibrant and busy market every Sunday along with a Carrefour supermarket for all of your essential provisions. Our swimming pool area offers wonderful views of the Dordogne valley whilst being private and not overlooked. The Dordogne river, with canoe rental, river beaches and hot-air balloon rides is just minutes away. The nearby Vézère river offers several prehistoric sites around the small town of Les Eyzies. Several excellent restaurants are nearby.

Notes on prices:
The apartment is available for extended rental at reduced rates during low and medium rental periods; we are ideally located for property search breaks in the Dordogne.
The gîte is closed for winter from early November until late March.
I booked this accommodation because it looked perfect for our needs, but it turned out to be even better than I was expecting - firstly in terms of size, which was much more generous than the photographs indicated, and secondly in being wonderfully cool on even the hottest days, so my worries about getting enough sleep were unfounded.
The rooms were comfortable and spotlessly clean, with a well-equipped kitchen and a charming little terrace for al fresco evening meals.
The pool area was beautifully maintained, with plenty of shade and the most comfortable loungers I've ever experienced. Water temperature was just right, and there was a selection of inflatables and toys etc. for the children - my younger daughter swam and played down there for a couple of hours every day.
The location is excellent, close to numerous local attractions (Chateau des Milandes, canoeing on the Dordogne, the pre-historic caves in the Vezere valley, to name just a few) and a couple of km from the pretty market village of St Cyprien (and a decent-sized supermarket).
Shona and Steve were excellent hosts, welcoming us with cocktails, and available to offer help and advice (and DVDs) whenever needed.
We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend.
A very enjoyable 2 weeks spent at La Petite Baronnie. The apartment was clean, well maintained and well equipped. The heated pool was superb!
La Petite Baronnie is in a good location not far from Saint Cyprien, a delightful medieval village with wonderful architecture and an excellent Sunday market. The Thursday evening Summer Food Festival is a must, sitting with the locals soaking up the atmosphere.
Good location for visiting Domme, Roque, Beynac, Sarlat, Marqueysaac.
Steve and Shona were great hosts and a good source of information for things to see and do. Nothing was too much trouble and they went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The use of their bikes allowed us to enjoy the relatively traffic free quiet roads and to soak up the French way of life…blissful!
This is a charming gite. Compact and bijou. Main bedroom and lounge with further bedroom off kitchen and toilet and shower also. Big advantage was the souterrain effect, despite the intense heat outside the gite remained cool. Charming patio . Direct access to pool. And piece de resistance was the sumptuous garden. For those who need it the wifi throughout was first rate. Shona and Steve are excellent hosts and gave a lovely welcome evening and equipped the gite with all foody essentials. We loved it
Very well equipped apartment decorated to a very high standard in a beautiful area, ideally located to all tourist attractions. Could not fault. Owners were friendly, informative, approachable and made us most welcome. Very likeable couple. Would book again without hesitation. A most enjoyable holiday.
We had a fabulous stay in Steve and Shona's extremely well-appointed apartment. The attention to detail was superb - right down to the high quality bed linen, comfy feather pillows and the option of playing classical music in the new state-of-the-art shower!
The apartment couldn't be in a better location to visit several magnificent chateaux. We particularly enjoyed the Chateau de Beynac, it was wonderful to enjoy the views of the Dordogne countryside, from this chateau, in the balmy sunshine.
The heated pool at La Petite Baronnie is a wonderful asset - it is set in beautifully maintained gardens. My partner especially enjoyed floating on the water in the late afternoon sun - perfect relaxation!
Thank you Steve and Shona for being such brilliant, helpful and knowledgeable hosts. Can't wait for a return visit!
We had a wonderful weeks holiday in the apartment. The setting is stunning , very tranquil with beautiful views over the wooded valley and amazing skies at night. The apartment was equipped with everything we needed , lovely towels and bed linen, and on arrival there were fresh eggs, cheese , bread and a wine which was just lovely.
Our daughter loved the pool which was warm and clean.
The owners were very welcoming and have a great knowledge of the local area, they went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable .
You do need a car to get around but there is so much to see within half an hours drive -we would recommend a canoe down the river and the castle of Commarque.
One hour from Bergerac airport (34 miles). Car rental is available from Bergerac airport and recommended.
One hour from Brive airport (39 miles). Car rental is also available from Brive airport.
9.5 hours driving (540 miles) from Calais for ferry and tunnel.
Our local town St Cyprien 2 miles. Our main town Sarlat 11 miles.
Tourist sites include Chateau de Beynac 3 miles, Chateau de Castelnaud 6 miles, Chateau des Milandes 5 miles. Les Eyzies 10 miles.
Our pretty local town of St Cyprien has a large weekly Sunday market, a large supermarket with petrol station and several banks. We have several good restaurants nearby and for all other needs, our main town of Sarlat is just a 20 minute drive away.
