My family and I have lived in Foolow for the last 26 years raising our 3 children. We love the village and have made many friends. Croft View Cottage was our family home for almost 16 years and has been a holiday let for the last 10years. We maintain and manage our much -loved cottage ourselves and are usually on hand to help with any problems or queries.
Naomi Carmichael purchased this cottage in 1980
Foolow is a beautiful conservation village centrally located in the Peak District within easy reach of Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Castleton, Eyam, Haddon Hall, Alton Towers, and Buxton. The village offers a quiet and friendly base to explore the Peak District National Park. The village consists of approximately 50 houses, a small church, village pond with ducks, village green, and pub.
Many walks, short and long, are available from the door step and the village pub which serves food, is a two minute walk away.

"Many thanks for your warm and friendly welcome to Croft View Cottage. The best cottage we have stayed in in over 40 years"
"Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to spend a week in your beautiful cottage. Without doubt it is one of the best we have ever stayed in. The garden is also delightful- a real cottage garden ! We have had a super week exploring on our bikes ... hope to come back one day"
"...A show-off example of English holiday-making at it's best. This lovely stone-built cottage is a dream base for great excursions, not least of all the wonderful footpaths near the house, through a million dandelion clocks, past a herd of cows with their calves and all the way to the sheep. Stunning, the only way to describe the location of this welcoming cottage!..."?Leja family
We have had a delightful week in Croft Cottage just as the autumn nights are really coming in. This is one of the best holiday lets we have stayed at. The cottage itself if charming and spacious, with two lovely lounges! The décor throughout is very attractive and well arranged. The village of Foolow itself is very pretty and the local pub is very welcoming.
We so enjoyed preparing the fire each evening and reading the numerous books and magazines about the area. My four year old daughter was overjoyed to find all the toys and especially the box of Barbie dolls to play with. Although this house is amazingly set up for families, it’s still luxurious and is suitable for any age. It’s clear that this home is loved by Naomi and her family and so you feel like you’re staying in a friend’s house rather than a holiday let. The countryside views were also a highlight.
The area is packed with things to do, even at the end of the October. We enjoyed many walks, Mam Tor being a highlight as well as visiting nearby Haddon Hall, Chatsworth, Heights of Abraham, Arkwright’s Mill and the historic village of Eyam. The local villages are scattered with fantastic coffee shops and country pubs. It was a short drive to the Chatsworth farm shop too. The area is full of natural beauty and we hope to return!
This is probably the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. Lots of extra little touches which made it feel so welcoming - fresh flowers in all the rooms, a welcome tray and a warm welcome from the owner (Naomi).
We had the misfortune to have a puncture, half an hour away from Foolow on our initial journey to the cottage. We were impressed and delighted by Naomi's help which resulted in us having our puncture repaired and the wheel refitted by 11am the following morning.
The cottage was spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished and had every convenience. We have been self-catering many times and this is the only time that everything was provided - toilet rolls, kitchen towels, soap etc etc.
We cannot praise this cottage highly enough. It is in a perfect location, in a quiet village and with a local pub serving excellent food - and ale. What more could anyone want?!!
I cant emphasize enough just how wonderful this cottage really is - it simply has everything you might need, or want! It is in immaculate condition - if you think the pictures of the cottage are great, wait until you get there - its even better! In addition to the cottage itself, the surrounding area is equally amazing - there is so much to do we will be going back on regular occasions.
The owner (Naomi) was excellent, the cottage was perfectly presented and the welcome pack was much appreciated.
In short, if you want to get away from the madness of the city simply book as long as you can spare at the cottage - you wont be disappointed, I promise :-)
The cottage is very well presented: cosy, comfortable, immaculately clean and very well equipped. The quality of the welcome pack was much appreciated. We have rented many holiday homes over the years and the care and thought with which Naomi provides for her visitors is exceptional.
We had a wonderful stay at Croft View Cottage last week. I have never been anywhere that is so well equipped for families - from the welcome pack, cot, highchair, changing mat, emergency wipes and nappy bags, age-appropriate books, toys especially the Noah's Ark and the box of Barbies which our two-year-old loved! The house was absolutely spotless when we arrived, and was a great base from which to explore the area. We particularly loved walking and cycling the Monsal Trail; a stroll to Eyam to visit the tea shop; and a drive to Buxton for the bus tour on a converted milk float (really). Highly recommended.
Spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped. Owners provided a very useful welcome pack. Naomi, the owner, was very helpful in ensuring a happy stay. A great location in a lovely little village with good local pub. Perfectly placed to visit dark peak and white peak places of interest. Would definitely return.
We recommend access to a car when staying at the cottage but Foolow is on the Sheffield, Buxton, and Chesterfield bus routes.

Foolow is a tiny village, not much here but it is very pretty with its village green and duck pond where you might like to feed the ducks (they go to bed early though, about 4 o’clock!)
There is a rectangular grassed area where children may play but make sure you have an adult with you as there is water and also a road close by.
There are lots of lovely walks from the door of Croft View Cottage and plenty of cows, sheep and birdlife all around.
You can walk to Eyam which is about 1.5 miles away, read about the plague there and find out why Eyam is famous at Eyam Museum www.eyammuseum.demon.co.uk, visit the church, Eyam Hall and its craft shops, have an ice cream and maybe paint a plate as a souvenir of your visit.
