This beautiful area of England offers quintessential charm but with 21st Century appeal - stunning countryside and many attractions and amenities. The property was built as a Hydro Spa (for wealthy Victorians to take the waters at Holywell nearby) but more recently was a private school where composer Elgar taught music. The property is convenient for many music, book, walking and literature festivals taking place over the summer months. Severn Valley Railway, West Midlands Safari Park, City of Worcester (with its Cathedral, Racecourse, Cricket Ground and Golf/Country Club), Pershore, Evesham and Broadway (and many more delightful Cotswold villages) are all within easy reach by car. To the West are found Ledbury (historic market town), City of Hereford, Hay on Wye (famous book festival) and Wales. Cheltenham Spa with superb shopping and facilities is in Gloucestershire just South of the region. Based in Malvern Wells which is famous for its hills, gas street lamps and spring water wells
I live nearby in Upton upon Severn and so will be able to personally welcome you to the property and answer any questions you may have, before handing over your keys.
I bought the property in October 2012 when walking on the hills and fell in love with the location and its history - just knowing that Elgar may have taught music in what is now the lounge is incredible; and imagining wealthy Victorians staying when they came to take the water cure hundreds of years ago is amazing too. Holywell is just yards up the road where you can collect your own spring water and in the property will be tea/coffee/biscuits plus those useful general provisions.
Pauline Janin purchased this apartment in 2012
I adored the location and tranquil setting. I was also impressed with the high standard of conversion into luxury apartments, together with stupendous views, and love sharing it with our guests who all report having a great time staying here.
I can understand why the late Baroness Thatcher chose the Hotel next door, The Cottage in The Wood, for her annual retreat.
If you love walking or touring this is the right spot for you, with direct access to the hills - yet there is a shop selling everything just 500 metres away! Also, plenty of pubs/shops/restaurants/theatre etc. in Malvern a few minutes away by car. With no other properties nearby, just trees & views over the stunning Severn Vale, this is truly an idyllic setting for your break.
We also provide discounted theatre or cinema tickets, and 2for1 vouchers at the Elgar birthplace museum
We had a lovely time . The flat was really clean and tidy in a beautiful location. The flat had all the utensils needed for a short or a long stay. Pauline was really helpful as well. I would go back again.(April 2013)
A pristine 2 bedroom flat with a spacious living area and potentially enough space for 6 people to stay there. Well equipped with just about everything you need (July 2013)
A lovely apartment in a glorious location - direct access to the criss cross of paths on the Malvern hills. The Autumn colours were on perfectly timed display! A day in the spa followed by a trip to the theatre all within a couple of miles. Pauline attentive and helpful - thank you!
From start to finish it was exactly as described. Well maintained and located in gorgeous area. Apartment had everything you could need and more. Close to places to walk or cycle and local amenities. Pauline made us feel very welcome and provided great tips on arrival and plenty of ideas with her various leaflets and folders full of information. We loved the Wyche Inn which was only a mile away and loved waling through the woods and valleys. We would recommend this to everyone and would stay again. Pauline has done an excellent job in providing a brilliant apartment, very well equipped and highly maintained. You should be very proud.
This was the second time we have stayed at Pauline's excellent apartment and it was as comfortable and relaxing as last time. You feel you are staying in an accommodation where the owner cares about your comforts. It was great to meet Pauline again when we arrived - a nice touch.
The highlight for us was the first day. We arrived at 3 pm and after a quick unpack, we walked up to the Malvern Hills - you are already halfway up so it is not too strenuous. The walk covers 2 of the summits on the Hills, Perseverance & Jubilee Hills, before descending back to the apartment. The whole walk took 90 minutes and it must be one of the best short circular walks in England.
Thanks Pauline and in the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger "We'll be back!"
We loved our time at this apartment. It was everything we could hope for and more, and it was always a joy to come back to every day after exploring this fascinating area of the Malvern Hills and nearby villages. Unlike many holiday apartments, the furnishings and décor were beautifully and thoughtfully planned, very tasteful and providing all the comfort of a home from home. We had been concerned about noise in a building full of flats, but in fact it was very silent and peaceful. The views are stunning and stretch for miles. We loved our daily walks to the Holywell a few paces uphill for the fresh pure Malvern water. And so many nearby attractions; Tewksbury Abbey and Malvern Priory were especially beautiful. It was wonderful too, to be able to walk out the door and get into the hills and forest behind the building in just a matter of minutes without needing a car. Despite the December weather, we managed hours of walking daily up behind the property, it is possible to walk miles through the hills on numerous paths. We definitely look forward to our return visit. Many thanks to the owner Pauline for providing this great place!
