About Jane Ord

We run a family farm in North Northumberland, a beautiful part of the world, steeped in history & panoramic landscapes. Nature, wildlife & our animals are our neighbours, we enjoy sharing them with our visitors.

Jane Ord purchased this cottage in 1980

Why Jane Ord chose Chatton

Groom's cottage historically was occupied by the head Groom when the farm was a country hunting park & racing stables. It has been refurbished & is now a cosy retreat close to the hills & the coast.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage sits within it's own walled garden on the edge of our farm. There are many walks from the door step, amble down the river side or go up the hill to the unique, ancient cup & ring marks. Chatton village is a 10 min walk & has a post office/shop, pub & historic church.

Within 5/6 miles you can be on Northumberland's amazing beaches, canoeing on it's rivers, walking it's hills in the national park or visiting one of it's many castles.

Chatton fishing lakes are within easy walking distance where you do not need a licence to fish.

Guestbook comments from the manager

What a lovely cosy cottage in a great location. Barney the dog is exhausted.

Thank you for a lovely stay, a real home from home. We loved the cakes & eggs!

Such a lot to do in the area, friendly people with time to talk! Thanks for the welcome pack, a nice touch & we will be taking those fresh, fresh eggs back for our family.

Lovely cottage in gorgeous area

  • 5 of 5

A really great week spent in a lovely cottage that is well equipped and really warm. Enjoyed days out to local towns, beaches, castle and countryside - lots to do in the area and the cottage is fantastically located among them all. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

Excellent cosy cottage, great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely few days. Despite dreadful weather outside the cottage was warm and cosy to come back to. Ideally placed between coast and hills. Also we thoroughly enjoyed the quiet rural location, away from most things but near a little village with a nice pub. We used the second bedroom for our clothes and 'stuff' and found the space ideal for 2. Recommended ( Free range eggs and Christmas cake on a welcome tea tray were much appreciated too).

Cottage very comfortable and well-equipped. Good location within an easy drive of beautiful beaches but also near to the Cheviots and many other inland attractions. Lots of information on things to do provided in cottage. Would definitely recommend!

A very cosy comfortable cottage, ideal for exploring the coast and countryside

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week exploring the beautiful coastline as well as the fells and valleys of the Cheviots and the Coquetdale on foot and on our bicycles. It was made even better by being able to come back to such a warm and cosy cottage. We had lovely log fires in the evenings and it was nice to stay in for supper as well as enjoy the local pubs! The cottage is very well equipped and the owners were very welcoming and helpful.....delicious cake and eggs on arrival! A perfect place to enjoy the best of Northumberland! Thank you!

Lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at this lovely cottage for 3 nights at the end of October. It's very cosy and well equipped with all home comforts to hand. Nice garden with open views of the countryside. There is so much to see and do nearby certainly more than we could fit in. Nice little welcome pack on arrival which I always think is a nice touch. Would certainly recommend this cottage and would have no hesitation returning.
