Todd Crag House is a very spacious and well appointed upper level apartment. Azalea is a detached cottage in the grounds of Todd Crag House with dedicated parking and private areas.

We purchased Todd Crag House in 2004 converting it into two self contained apartments. The upper, Todd Crag House has two bedrooms, the lower now known simply as Todd Crag has one bedroom, is very large and retains many of the original features. Considerable expense went into bringing the property up to current standards and restoring original features. Following the first tranche of improvement with the complete restoration of the severely neglected substantial 'servants' accommodation in the grounds. This is now a fully fitted, damp proofed and very popular single bedroom detached cottage which, for the first four years was an 'owner bolthole'. it is now available to let and known as Azalea Cottage, named after the ancient plant rescued from the previously neglected and overgrown gard

Very good location, spacious and well equipped cottage
We have enjoyed our stay at Todd Crag. The bed was really comfortable and they have everything in the kitchen including a selection of gadget to make a cup of real coffee. Nice size room and parking also.
Ambleside is a really nice place to stay and there are many walks within the door step and not as commercialised as Windermere and Bowness. You don't even need to drive anywhere if you just want some relaxing or hill walking. There are a lot of nice restaurants, a good bakery and a deli also. Best place to buy walking gears as there are many shops to choose from.
Wonderful holiday apartment
We have just returned from a lovely week at Todd Crag. The apartment was clean, spacious and very comfortable. A t.v. in each room was a bonus! There are a few steps from the rear door(entrance from car parking) down to the hall and a handrail would make this safer.
Although on a busy road and with occupants above, we were not disturbed by any noise at all, the road being quiet at night.
Todd Crag is absolutely charming and the front porch a delight to sit in. Although all basic food items ( salt, oil, coffee etc. ) have to be bought, there are adequate cleaning supplies including tea towels, kitchen roll, and enough china and utensils to last between dishwashes .
We had never heard of Booths Supermarkets, but they are like a Waitrose and we were most impressed. There is one nearby at the station in Windermere for all the usual shopping, as parking in Ambleside near the Tesco Express is difficult.
We found Clappersgate to be very central for visiting the lakes and Ambleside to be very dog friendly, e.g.The White Lion and Luigis Restaurant. In fact, the whole area was dog friendly. All in all, a delightful find and one that we would recommend to anyone!
