The cottage is one of nine lovingly restored properties from former farm buildings and barns. The views of the surrounding countryside are stunning. Blackbird Cottage sleeps 6 plus a baby (cot, high-chair and stair gate are all available). The main attraction of the Newhouse Barton site is the 11.5 x 4.8m x 1.2m Roman style indoor heated swimming pool and games room with pool table (small charge), table tennis table, table football and toys for the younger guests. There is also an outside children's area with play equipment and communal BBQ and picnic area with benches. Within 10 minutes drive is Totnes, a pretty little town with an impressive castle. Dartmoor, Brixham, Torquay, Paignton Zoo, Dartmouth etc. are easily accessible. The cottage is ideally positioned for exploring South Devon with all its attractions.
What an incredible week! Our 20month old and 4 year old probably would have been happy in the pool and playground all week. We went to the zoo, aquarium and Woodlands theme park. All fantastic days out for the family. We loved the cottage, incredibly well equipped. We will be back. THANK YOU.
Approx 20 min drive will take you to Torbay, 'The English Riviera', where you will find beaches at Torquay, Paignton and Goodrington. A little further afield are the beaches of Bantham, Bigbury, ideal for sand castles and surfing, Slapton (with its Nature Reserve) and the award winning Blue Flag family beach of Blackpool Sands set in a sheltered bay surrounded by evergreens and pines, one of South Devon's little gems. Its turquoise blue sea gives it an almost Mediterranean feel.
Use of a car is essential. The nearest main line train stations are Newton Abbot and Totnes both approx 10km. The nearest airport is Exeter, approx 43km.The nearest Ferry is Plymouth approx 46km. Nearest motorway is M5 Junction 31 approx 17km.
The cottage lies on the edge of the village of Ipplepen and offers a local pub, post office, Co-op open until 10pm. Both Newton Abbot and Totnes lie approx 8 km away. The cities of Exeter and Plymouth are both within an easy drive of 40-50 mins.
Take one of the tranquil boat trips down the Dart Estuary to Dartmouth passing idyllic scenery such as Agatha Christie's Greenway (National Trust). Take a tour of Dartmouth Naval College. There are steam trains to Paignton and Kingswear. Visit the Golden Hind in Brixham Harbour, tour the Fish Market or enjoy the stunning views from Berry Head, a country park and nature reserve. Sample the delicious wine and cheese at Sharpham Vineyard (alfresco dining in the summer). Paignton Zoo and Living Coasts at Torquay offer a variety of animal encounters. China Blue in Totnes offers pottery painting and glass making. Newton Abbot offers horse racing, major supermarkets and banks while Totnes has numerous small cafes, boutiques and a ruined castle to explore. For the more adventurous Woodlands Adventure Park near Dartmouth, Crealy near Exeter and River Dart Country Park offer numerous activities to keep the youngsters happy. Pennywell Farm is great for younger children.

A 25% deposit is required at the time of booking along with a signed copy of the terms and conditions. The balance of the holiday is payable six weeks before the holiday commences. Payment may be made by cheque or bank transfer.
Holiday insurance is not included and you are advised to take out separate cover.
Our change over day is Friday for weekly bookings. We offer short breaks out of season from Friday to Monday (3 nights). Arrival time is from 3pm and departure is by 10am.
Notes on prices:
Prices include all electricity, heating, initial basket of logs for wood burner, bed linen, towels. Free use of the heated indoor pool and games room.
