Cottage in Lee, Nr. Ilfracombe, North Devon, England - On The Coastal Path At The Top Of Lee, It's A 3 Mins Walk Down To The Bay And Beach & 7 Mins Back
Greystones is a modern 4 bed bungalow cottage, set at the top of Lee Village, with stunning views looking over Lee from the south facing enclosed garden at the back and then out over the Bristol Channel to Wales from the front.
With 3 double beds & 1 bunk bed room all on 1 level - where 1 double bed is situated at the far end of the house - it's ideal for families especially those with grandparents who don't want to be woken up early!
We live in Surrey with 3 kiddies between 8 & 4 years old who love this place as much as we do and leave each time with bucket full of happy childhood memories. Firing up their imagination of witches tales, days spent rock pooling, ping pong and open mic nights at the local Grampas pub, sunset dog walks and body boarding at Putsborough Sands. It's proper childhood stuff. We're now in our forties and love this place to bits. It provides a secluded haven from our busy worlds. A place to see amazing views, take long rambling walks and just chill out in a place where traffic noise is a distant memory. We love it here. We hope you love it as much as we do.
Irene Jeffrey purchased this cottage in 2013
Lee is magical. It's a hidden gem of a valley on the North Devon coast in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Within 10 mins drive of the beautiful beaches of Woolacombe and Putsborough, and next door to Ilfracombe, we stumbled across it whilst holidaying here with our young family. When a local introduced us to Greystones... we couldn't resist...
Family home from home - on the coastal path cliff, 3 mins walk down to Lee bay (7 mins back up the hill!).
Feel the pure escape and remoteness of it all as you kick back in the south facing back garden overlooking the valley or ponder out of the kitchen across the Bristol Channel out to Wales.
Well, if you haven't got the idea already; here are the edited highlights...
It's in a secluded tranquil village, on a cliff side coastal path, with absolutely breathtaking views over sea and valley.
It sits in Lee Village, one of the prettiest places in England and is a short walk from the bay and the local pub.
It provides a quick escape to some of the best beaches for chilling, surfing and playing in Britain.
In short it's perfect.
The minute we walked in we knew we would enjoy our stay. The valley view is absolutely lovely (we reckon one of the best in the village because you are not overlooked at all and you can only see two other rather grand houses) and the garden is bigger and has more seating than we had expected. The house is so comfortable with a lovely holiday vibe. There is lots of space and the rooms are all good sizes so that our three (two teenagers and an 11 year old) had plenty of room to spread out and keep to themselves if they wanted to. Lee bay is fabulous - you are NEVER too old to go rock pooling! And it is so close! We enjoyed a magical Friday open mic night at the Grampus inn which was even more fun with a power cut in the valley.....music by candlelight! Walks along the coastal path are magnificent even for reluctant teens and unbelievably we saw a family (pod?/school/gang?!) of 7 seals just off Morte point - lolling about on the rocks ! We also did body boarding at Croyde which is such a short distance away. We loved the peace and quiet, the views from inside the cottage through huge picture windows and sitting in the garden listening to the sea. We did a lot of cooking and the kitchen has everything you need. We especially appreciated the plentiful towels ...... What more can we say? The perfect place for the complete Devon experience - couldn't be better. We will be back I am sure.....
We enjoyed a fantastic stay at Greystones cottage. Upon arrival the feel & ambience of the cottage immediately ensured that you relaxed into holiday mode. The description & photos cannot really do justice to its lovely location overlooking the wooded hillside across the valley & down to the cove. The cottage & gardens are in tiptop condition with great arrival & logistics notes so that everything was straightforward. This area of north Devon is really unspoilt & the South West Coastal path passing right outside the front door means that access to fantastic walks in both directions is literally on your doorstep. We were two couples & enjoyed a number of coastal & country walks including Woolacombe Bay, Lynton & Lynmouth as well Rosemoor RHS Gardens. We played golf at Saunton (fabulous!) & despite some mixed weather we were relaxed knowing that we had a fantastic base back at the cottage. On our last day we visited Arlington Court, a National Trust property, with its Carriage museum and it was a really worthwhile visit. We also took time to explore the small village of Lee with its tiny church which is a gem and read it bit of it's history. We had a cream tea in the Smugglers cafe overlooking the bay whilst a sea canoeing school was holding lessons & launching. The bay is full of rock pools & we could imagine our children when they were young having great fun. All in all a fabulous week & the cottage lends itself to be fully enjoyed for family holidays, or couples to enjoy the area or a romantic getaway. Finally the local Grampus Inn hosts a fabulous informal music evening on Friday nights but be sure to book a table. Simply a treat!
First time in Devon and enjoyed every bit of it! Lovely cottage with all the home comforts, impressive outside space and most importantly- stunning views of the sea and hillside. Not only a superb location with beautiful walks on the doorstep but the cottage was spotless, well-presented and truly felt like a home away from home. Wonderful garden to relax in and take in the beautiful views and lovely country pub a short stroll away. We will be back!
The cottage was very spacious and bright with room to spare for all 8 out of us. Every room is a good size and the kitchen is well equipped. We had an extremely comfortable stay and the views are simply breathtaking. Just a short walk to the sea and an opportunity for some wonderful coastal walks. Fantastic for the kids, with so much to explore plus a good sized garden to play in. We are definitely coming back.
