Two Bedroom Cottage - Peacefully located at the foot of Brant Fell, only a short walk to Bowness and the lake
About anne parker
We first visited The Lake District separately as children. Many years later on Honeymoon in the Lakes, we made a promise to ourselves to own our own cottage before our 25th Anniversary. We kept our promise and purchased The Retreat just in time for our 25th Anniversary. After much thought, effort, love and money we have now renovated the 150 year old former cattle shed into a luxury holiday retreat for ourselves and guests to enjoy.
anne parker purchased this Cottage in 2013
Why anne parker chose Bowness-on-Windermere
It was love at first sight when we saw the cottage. From the quirky upside down layout to the beautiful tranquil setting. We knew instantly it was the one for us. We have spent much time love and money transforming the cottage to what we now feel is the perfect retreat for ourselves and our guests. Each season at The Retreat is magical from crisp cold days snuggled in by the log burner to summer evenings spent in the garden watching the sun set over Claiffe Heights. Enjoy a summer evening barbeque in the courtyard garden furninshed with a local slate bench and good quality table and chairs.
What makes this Cottage unique
We have lovingly renovated the cottage, working closely with local tradesmen to ensure it's Lakeland character was retained. We took the opportunity to add extra features to give the Retreat it's uniqueness and special feel. New for summer 2017 - A raised deck to the side garden allows our guests to enjoy views over the lake.

Really relaxing holiday with everything you need on your doorstep .
Thank you Anne will return in the future
Lovely little cottage
The cottage was lovely, well equipped, very clean and in a great location not far from the centre of Bowness-on-Windermere. There was a beautiful seating area that overlooked the lake where we sat in the evening watching the sunset.
Beautiful cottage in beautiful surroundings.
Lovely Quaint Cottage
Excellent property in a lovely location. Well presented & everything you could ask for. Although you do need to be fit to walk up the hill from the town!
Tastefull and Spotless
We arrived early, and finding parking in Bowness difficult we found the Cottage to see if we could park there, we were greeted by Robert who welcomed us, moved his car so we could park and shared some useful tips on places to walk and eat. Returning after our afternoon tea our first impressions were how spotless the Retreat was and so tastefully furbished, well equipped, very homely and peaceful. The Retreat provided us with the perfect base for our first family adventure in the lakes; close to town (an easy walk using the Angel pub route) yet bordering the beautiful countryside of Brant Fell and beyond. The walk up Brant Fell was well rewarded with breath-taking views of Windermere and the surronding fells.
Our stunning Swallows and Amazons cruise on Coniston was facilitated by a very knowledgeable and personable guide - well worth the trip. Grizedale provided an excellent venue for our forest adventure with graded walks to suit all families and abilities. A stop off at Hawshead on the way back was rewarded with a Dizzy Blonde and the kids enjoyed the local ice cream. A visit to the Beatrix Potter museum was better than expected and the children were fascinated by all the character models and the adults, the life of Beatrix. All these venues were in easy reach of the Cottage and Bowness, although a little busy, provided too many restaurants, pubs and coffee shops to mention, except the Angel which we particularly enjoyed (try the sausages). All in all the perfect spot for a perfect Easter break!
Thanks for your nice comments. We always enjoy hearing our guests have had a great stay at our cottage.
Bowness is a vibrant village with lots of little shops, bars and restaurants and the lake. As you discovered, there’s also lots to do in the surrounding area, so it makes a good base to explore the Lakes.
I’m pleased you enjoyed the 360 view from Post Knott and Brantfell just behind the cottage. It’s an easy steady walk direct from the door and the views are superb, sunset and early evening are our favourite times to walk there.
We look forward to welcoming you and your family back to The Reteat.
