Brae is our lovely holiday cottage in a quiet location just off Wadebridge town centre. We fully renovated it in Spring 2013, and the interior has been fully decorated again in May 2016. It is furnished to a very high standard, retaining original features combined with modern luxury touches, to create a cosy and bright living space. Wadebridge is a bustling market town that spans the River Camel. It's a perfect base to explore Cornwall. It has a great selection of independent shops, cafes and restaurants; plus direct access to the Camel Trail. There are many beautiful beaches nearby. The South West Coastal path can be easily accessed, as well as inland walks on Bodmin Moor. Rock, Padstow, Newquay, Port Isaac (i.e. Doc Martin country), Tintagel and Boscastle are all nearby. Wadebridge has some lovely restaurants and you can also try the famous eateries of Rick Stein, Jamie Oliver and Nathan Outlaw on the coast. The award winning Camel Valley Vineyard is nearby. Wadebridge is also very well served by public transport.

About Michael Smith
We live in the North of England and both work very hard in professional jobs. Our hearts are in Cornwall where we knew each other as children in the 1970s. We met up again by chance after 31 years in 2008 and fell in love. We are now happily married and Brae Cottage is our lovely escape from our busy and stressful working lives.
Michael Smith purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Michael Smith chose Wadebridge
We love Wadebridge because it is a lively friendly town and everything you need is on your doorstep. It's busy enough to have the cafes, bars and restaurants we like, but quiet enough so that you can relax and enjoy 'Cornish time'. It's also a great base for exploring the rest of Cornwall. We bought Brae Cottage in 2012 and spent 6 months fully renovating it. We have lavished as much attention on it as we did our main home - in fact probably more. We have kept its quirky cottage features like beams and a woodburning stove, but have added luxury touches like underfloor heating and a large 'walk-in' shower. While Brae is a cosy cottage it's big enough to relax in, with a good sized dining kitchen, a separate lounge and 2 double bedrooms.
What makes this Cottage unique
We like to park up the car and potter about Wadebridge on foot for a least a couple of days before we venture further afield. We are gradually working our way through the many independent coffee shops but it may take some time! When we do venture out our main love is rock climbing and we take advantage of the glorious Cornish sea cliffs whenever we get the time. We've also recently started surfing and Mawgan Porth and Watergate are our favourites. Having realised Wadebridge is surrounded by golf courses we may give it a try. We have walked a lot of the Cornish Coast Path on both the North and South Coasts and we often return to our favourite walks over and over again.

Property was of high quality in terms of facilities and furnishings and decor.
The vendors have obviously put a lot of thought into the property which feels homely and comfortable and pleasing to the eye as well as providing good quality facilities i.e. kitchen bathroom bedroom mattress books radios decor tv etc. It is also quite spacious as it has a separate sitting room from the breakfast room as well as a middle room upstairs so plenty of privacy. It is a 3 minute walk into Wadebridge centre so very convenient and the neighbourhood is friendly and private.
Brilliant ! Couldn't be better 🤗
Charming well equiped cottage within convenient walking distance of Wadebridge town centre.
Decor and cleanliness could not be faulted.
A bonus was being able to park at the cottage too.
Well done to the owners, as they seem to have thought up everything possible to promote a very enjoyable stay at Brae Cottage.
We will definately add this to our 'stay again' list 🤗
Thank you so much for your lovely review. We're are so happy that you enjoyed your stay.
We love Brae Cottage and our housekeeping team are first class. We are so glad that you appreciated this and we have passed this review on to them.
Lovely, comfortable cottage
Brae Cottage is a lovely place to stay two blocks from the center of the small town of Wadebridge. The cottage has been renovated recently and has all the amenities except a clothes dryer. Good restaurants are nearby and there is easy access to the Camel River Trail for biking into Padstow or elsewhere. There is a small parking space at the cottage, and we found it fairly easy to drive Into and out of town on the A39. Good coastal walking across the Camel around Polzeath and almost everywhere you turn. Tintagel not far but usually swarming with tourists. One complaint, and we knew about this beforehand, is that there is no internet at the cottage. This may not be a problem for those with cellphone service in the UK, but it is for those others who are relying on wireless networks for calls and data.
Lived upto our Expectations
This was our second time holidaying in Cornwall/Wadebridge, what I can say is that this property is probably the best in the area, it has everything, including the all important parking. Yes you could stay in either close by Padstow or Polzeath; however, neither have the facilities of Wadebridge which also allows you to travel easily to both North & South coast lines etc.
Mike and Jenny the owners hit the mark in every respect in relation to the accommodation provided, the three of us loved it and will be back asap.
Thank you for your lovely review. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at Brae Cottage and liked Wadebridge as much as we do. It is full of independent shops and eateries and a great base for a holiday. It's a bit of an undiscovered gem in Cornwall.
What a fantastic cottage
the layout is well considered and decor and equipment in the cottage is to a very high standard. We will definitely be back here in the future.
Comfortable and well equipped
Fantastic clean cottage. Everything you could possibly need is provided. The decor was very thoughtful.
There are many lovely beaches with a short drive, you could easily visit a different one of every day of your holiday. The local beaches include (with miles):
Rock 6; Polzeath 7; Daymer Bay 7; Tregirls 7.5; Trevone 8; Harlyn 9; Constantine 10; Treyarnon 11; Porthcothan 11.6; Mawgan Porth 12; Bedruthan Steps 13.7; Watergate Bay 14.6; Porth 15; Newquay beaches inc. Fistral 17.
Wadebridge is just off the A39 Atlantic Highway.
Bodmin Parkway mainline rail station 11.3 miles.
Newquay Airport 12.6 miles.
Good local bus network.
The cottage is a 2 minute walk to the shops, cafes and restaurants of Wadebridge.
Wadebridge is a bustling market town characterised by independent shops, cafes and restaurants. There is also a town centre cinema. You can get all the food & drink you need on your doorstep, including excellent local produce - there are 2 great butchers, a fishmongers and an artisan bakers only yards away from the cottage. There is a very well-stocked Co-op supermarket a 3 min walk away and a large supermarket on the outskirts of the town if you really need it. There is also a great selection of clothes, shoes and accessories shops. We even have a local vineyard, the award winning Camel Valley Wines. Oh and there's also a lovely spa (River Spa).
Wadebridge is also home to the John Betjeman Centre. You can feel the affection Betjeman had for the Camel Estuary and coast near Wadebridge in his poetry. He is buried at the tiny church at St Enodoc near Rock. "Those moments, tasted once and never done, Of long surf breaking in the mid-day sun. A far-off blow-hole booming like a gun" (Cornish Cliffs, John Betjeman).
The Camel Trail runs alongside the estuary all the way from Padstow on the coast to Bodmin on the edge of the Moor. You can hire bikes in Wadebridge. Rock and Padstow are both nearby and you can take a ferry across the estuary from one to other e.g. Rick Stein's fish and chips for lunch in Padstow and oysters for dinner at Nathan Outlaw in Rock.
Many of North Cornwall's finest beaches are within 25 mins of the cottage - the nearest is Rock at less than 20 mins by car. Wadebridge is also surrounded by golf courses.
Other great places to visit nearby are the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, and the National Trust properties at Lanhydrock and Trerice.
You can also hit the south coast of Cornwall easily from Wadebridge. The beautiful Fowey estuary is 20 miles away and the historic port of Charlestown is 19.
