3 Bed, 2 Bath pet friendly cottage in picturesque village on Roseland Peninsula
About Fiona Coulter
I have let Cliff garden since 2005. We use the cottage as a family holiday home too so I have tried to make it really comfortable and a good place to stay to enjoy the best Cornwall has to offer. I like to think of Cliff Garden as a home way from home and hope you will too.
Fiona Coulter purchased this Cottage in 2005
Why Fiona Coulter chose Portloe
Portloe is beautiful picturesque fishing village on the Roseland Peninsula. It has wonderful beaches and cliff walks. Local pubs and restaurants serve delicious cuisine. It is very peaceful yet you are able to travel to all the attractions of Cornwall quickly and easily. A bus service runs through the village to local areas which can be very handy. The cottage is actually situated on the South West Coat Path with stunning cliff views - perfect for walkers, and their four legged friends. The little harbour and beaches nearby are perfect for walkers, swimmers, anglers and professional sand castle builders.
What makes this Cottage unique
The atmosphere of the cottage and its garden is such that it is the perfect place to unwind. The lovely sea air and listening to the waves is so relaxing. To sit up in the garden and look out over the sea has meant many guests have hardly left the property during their stay. The house has a comfortable feel with top quality beds for a good nights sleep. The other nice thing about the house is its situation - there is the famous Lugger Hotel a stones throw away that serves great food - perfect for that glass of chilled wine and a crab sandwich and chips for lunch or an a la carte dinner in the evening. The friendly Ship Inn about 100 metres away serves great pub food with freshly caught fish specials. The little harbour is ideal for swimming or paddling as well as watching the boats go in and out. Freshly caught crab and lobster is readily available.

Enjoyed four nights at cliffgarden cottage. Beautiful cottage with everything you could possible need and more! Stunning sea views, was lovely waking up to that every morning and with the sounds of seagulls. Thank you for a wonderful stay :)
Thank you for such a lovely review Lisa. We enjoyed your instagram post of the harbour and view from the window!
Perfect stay. Quiet but for the sound of the ocean. Beautiful walking in surrounding countryside. House is very comfortable and had everything we needed and for Aussies used to wider roads the village access was fine.
Thank you for your review Colleen. It is lovely to see and hear the sea from each bedroom, waking up to every morning. So glad you found the roads easy for access, we think we are in a pretty great spot for access. Hope you come and stay again soon.
What a stunning house! Everything you could possibly ask for with the added bonus of beautiful sea views. Will definitely recommend
Thank you Sara for your kind review - so glad you enjoyed the house and the wonderful sea views. Let us know when you want to come back :-)
Brilliant Cornwall vacation
We had such a lovely time at Cliff Cottage. The cottage was exactly what we needed for a short trip to Cornwall. It was well suited, Fiona was wonderful to work with, Portloe is darling, the walk along the coast is breathtaking. I would love to come back to Cliff Cottage in the summer to take better advantage of the beautiful views from the garden terraces. Thank you Fiona for letting us stay in your lovely home.
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback - hopefully you can stay again in the summer to make the most of the extended garden and lovely local beaches. We look forward to having you stay again soon.
An amazing holiday retreat
We have just spent a week in Portloe in an amazing cottage full of character features. The garden is full of nooks and crannies with breathtaking views across the village as well as the bay and out to sea. The cottage was the perfect choice as a venue to have family come to stay with us to celebrate a 30th birthday as well as an early Christmas celebration.
We would highly recommend the cottage and the area for a break from the hectic world.
Thank you Fiona.
The award winning beaches of Carne and Pendower are under 10 minutes drive away. There is plenty of parking at both in National Trust car parks. Parking is free to National Trust members and a small charge for others. There are lovely sands and rock pools and when the tide is out you can walk from one beach to the other. Above the beach is the Nare Hotel where you can sit and look out over the sea and enjoy coffee, lunches including crab sandwiches and chips and cream teas There are many more beaches a short drives away in both directions.
Not only is there the local village pub, The Ship, and The Lugger Hotel with its restaurant, but there is the famous Driftwood 15 minutes away. In the summer season the Hidden Hut, one of the best beach cafes in England less than 20 minutes. They have lovely fresh food and have lobster and paella nights - well worth a visit.
About a 7 minute drive from the cottage is the Da Bara Bakery where you can get brilliant bread, coffee, breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas to eat in or take away. We never visit without at least one trip here.
Melinsey Mill a short drive away does delicious lunches and ream teas in season.
The house is situated on the South West Coast Path and you can walk along the cliff paths in both directions and see stunning views and wildlife. There are also inland walks to Veryan from the village.
You are within 30 minutes of the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Lanhydrock and Trelissick, the lovely historical houses and gardens are 40 minutes away. A visit to St Mawes where you can get the ferry to Falmouth is nearby, there are also lots of nice shops and restaurants there. Mevagissey, a small sea front town that you can walk through is about half an hour away. Charlestown, famous for being the backdrop to Poldark and other feature films is worth a visit.
Apart frpm being able to buy lovely bread and cakes at Da Bara, the garage at Bessy Beneath has an excellent convenience store. There is the old garage a recent opened deli selling great wine too. Roseland Stores in Veryan is another good convenience store with post office. Curgurrel farm shop sells fresh fish and local produce as does Lobbs farm shop attached to the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
There is a bus service running right through the village for access to local surrounding areas.
