Why Doug Riach chose Carsington
This beautiful Grade II listed stone Farmhouse is approximately 300 years old with oak beams and stone mullions which all add to the original character and charm of the building. The log burner creates a warm and cosy atmosphere for those long winter days. Landscaped Gardens surround this South Facing Farmhouse. A private Drive leads to the House with a sunny front terrace with table & chairs and private rear gardens with large BBQ tables & Chairs. The rear gardens lead to a large enclosed lawn perfect for ball games.

Lovely property in amazing location. The bedroom arrangements are a little quirky but absolutely fine if you all know each other well.

Fantastic group accommodation
Excellent base for our group of three families!
Like a tardis! Really well stocked with items, kids had a ball, lovely area with great walks and things to do!
Beds and towels all clean, not so much elsewhere but we loved the house! Fab stay and would go again without doubt.
Lovely old quirky property. Well equipped and very clean.
I stayed at this property in Aug 19 with 12 members of my family - from ages 2yrs - 76yrs. We loved the property and had a great time. Great local pub - Miners Arms. Great food & exceptional service from staff.
We have a few complaints:
×the water was scalding hot and a member of our party received a nasty burn that blistered badly.
×Also due to age of property (some doorframes being low) another person received a head injury.
×Another elderly person struggled using shower on 1st floor & had a fall getting out bath - they were locked in the bathroom & we almost had to break lock but fortunately were able to gather themselves & managed to get to the door. But incident left them bruised and shook up.
Other than this we had a lovely holiday.
A fun place for a group
The house had the space and equipment to handle our group of 12 very comfortably. Not top luxury but clean, reasonably comfortable and full of character. The garden was absolutely beautiful. Perfect for relaxing and enjoying the lovely countryside. The location was lovely. Next time I would like to plan to just stay locally and explore all the immediate area has to offer. Internet was a little stretched by having 12 of us on it but adequate. Phone reeption was spotty. Perfect for getting away. Doug was a pleasure to work with. A good balance of helpful, responsive when needed while and leaving us to get on and enjoy. I recommend a stay in this house.
Hi Pam thanks for your kinds remarks about the house I am pleased you all had a good break with your friends and family hope to see you again.
Wonderful Accommodation with Everything You'd Need
Me and a group of friends and their kids spent three nights at the cottage. It is well fitted out and has plenty of space for the kids to explore and generally wear themselves out.
The gardens are beautiful, though the weather during our stay didn't really let us appreciate them.
The cottage is a proper labyrinth with bedrooms scattered all over. The heating worked well and Doug made sure the place was warm for our arrival. Everything was clean and the kitchen is really well equipped - we cooked there every night for a good number of people.
Nearby the countryside is beautiful and the local pub is great, having a kids playground out the back helped.
Worth noting that the driveway has close by neighbours who are quite sensitive to noise so be careful if you're out at night (even before the 9pm suggested in the house).
All in all a great stay in a lovely old property.
I am so pleased you had a good break with your friends and found the house suitable for your needs.
Yes the local pub and playground is handy to say the least.
Hope to see you again
Great place to stay!
We came to stay for three nights with two other families for a short half term break, and we all loved it! The beautiful house had everything we needed. It was warm, clean and comfortable. There are lots of activities nearby - truly something for everyone! Our stay included a private tour of the local John Smedley jumper factory, a Heritage Rail trip up the line from Matlock, a visit to the National Stone Museum and a walk round Carsington Water. If only we could have stayed longer we'd have fitted in a trip to Abraham Heights and Alton Towers too. Would definitely recommend this as a great place to stay!
I'm so pleased you all had a great break away with your family hope see you again
