About Sally Waters
My husband & I live in the main house. Our children are grown up & have sadly fled the nest! However we still have Horace our friendly & very bouncy Golden Retreiver. We both work in London, my husband as a barrister & myself as a Physiotherapist.
Sally Waters purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Sally Waters chose Bordon
This is a great area. Equidistant between London & the coast with easy access to Surrey, Sussex, Berkshire & Buckinghamshire.
What makes this Cottage unique
The house was built as a Yorkshire manor in local stone. It was initially 3 storeys but burnt down & was rebuilt in 1857 as the original but with only 2 storeys. Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin fame once lived here. We have been told that the balustrade is from London Bridge.

Beautiful home in a beautiful decor
House is more than comfortable with all modern équipement.
Great for a family
My two sons gave this every star they could
Really wonderful place to use as base for exploring South Downs. Julian and Sally really helpful without being in any way intrusive. Fantastic few days. Highly recommend.
Bittersweet reason for staying, with a funeral and birthday, but very lovely stay. The lodge is beautiful and enjoyed the games room too. Would recommend.
The lodge was okay but could have been warmer for November. Grounds not so good.
We stayed in November at the Lodge. The Lodge was fine but there were some problems. The night we arrived the Lodge was freezing and it took about two days to warm up. My son found how to warm up the place the night we arrived but it still took time to warm up. Also, there wasn't enough hot water for the five of us to shower in the mornings and we didn't have a lot of towels or soap. The kitchen was very nice and we managed to find out how everything worked but we never did use the coffee machine which was rather complicated.
The grounds were okay to go in and out down the drive but the dog was rather scary. Horace kept jumping at us and barking so we were wary if the dog was out when we went to our cars. The Manor grounds were run down and there was dog pooh over the front of the house driveway and down the left side of the lodge. We would have liked to walk around the manor house just to see it but the driveway was too messy.
We liked Liphook and the countryside very much - very nice area and easy to get to London.
The Lodge is essentially a new build (2000) with double glazing throughout & gas central heating controlled by a thermostat inside the property. It gets so warm that we've noticed some guests even open the windows in winter! If it wasn't warm enough I don't understand why it wasn't mentioned at the time.
We provide one small & large towel per person & one small soap in each bathroom.
We apologised for the state of the grounds at the time since we had a very large tree that came down. We are now waiting for the garden to be relaid & tidied up once the weather allows. As regards the dog's mess we clear it once a day. I would like to add that these guests flouted our house rules & had a party in the Lodge for at least 15 people with 5 extra cars parked in the drive for about 6 hours. Despite saying the guests would leave shortly they remained for another few hours!
What a fantastic place to use as a base to explore the region.
In the area for a wedding, we loved our stay at The Lodge at Standford Grange. The house had everything we could hope for - good-sized bedrooms, large bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, games room, sun room and good-sized living area.
It is especially well-equipped for our baby and made travelling with our 9-month old a breeze as the Lodge has a high chair, baby bath, cot, toys etc.
Sally was a fantastic host. Looking forward to coming back again!
Ideal starting point for a great golfing holiday
What a wonderful stay we had in the Standford Grange Lodge! The apartment is very comfortable in lovely surroundings. Great beds and well equiped bath rooms and kitchen. For a golfing holiday, the apartment is situated ideally with top courses Liphook, Blackmoor and Old Thorns on your doorstep and Hindhead and Hankley Common a short drive away. The owner was very helpful and nice to talk to. The dog Horace was unfortunately a bit too enthousiastic, but was friendly once he was familiar with us. The only "downside" was that we had Mediterranean weather (how lucky we were) without a possibility to sit and eat outside. However, with the regular English weather, this is hardly a problem... I would definitely recommend this apartment to all.
