Kingswear, Devon - Close by Tidal Creek & Easy Walk To Village & Woodlands
About Peter Martin
We are active, outdoorsy people with three dogs and a small boat which is on a trailer outside the apartment. We love walking in the woods and along the coast paths, and spending days with the dogs on the beach at Man Sands. We also love pottering up the river on our boat and visiting the Anchorstone Cafe at Dittisham, famous for local seafood. We are also interested in wildlife particularly the many seabirds we see on the Dart, including egrets and oyster catchers. It's also a good day when we see seals and dolphins in the harbour! Having said that, we also love to settle in with a good book and a glass of something nice, and just relax!
Peter Martin purchased this Apartment in 2006
Why Peter Martin chose Kingswear
We bought the upstairs apartment in 2006 because we have always loved Dartmouth and being by the sea. We acquired the downstairs flat in 2012. We like Kingswear because it's a bit quieter than Dartmouth and because the dog walking and boat launching is right on the doorstep. However, all the fun and bustle of Dartmouth is just a short ferry ride away (or trip on the boat) but we can leave it behind when we want a little peace! Kingswear has a proper village atmosphere and it's a lovely little community where everyone knows each other. We chose the apartment for it's simple practicality, as we spend most of our time outdoors. Also, we have our own parking space!
What makes this Apartment unique
Being in a cul-de-sac means the 'street', such as it is, is safe and quiet. The most noise we get comes from the owls in the woods at night!

In a perfect location to enjoy Dartmouth and the surrounding area the perfect place to park the car up for the week lovely walks straight from the door and lots of nice places to visit by ferry. Everything we needed for a comfortable stay and a big bonus for us was a garden for the dogs I do think we would prefer to stay in Kingswear rather than Dartmouth as we enjoyed the walks and ferry rides so much Hopefully we will be back soon Thank you
Up the Creek
Lovely ground floor flat everything you might need very clean , perfect position for ferry steam train and the views from the end of the short road were fabulous everything we could have wished for and the big bonus dog friendly will be back without a doubt .
Great base to explore Devon especially Dartmouth and the river dart
Most relaxing holiday I’ve had in years
Apartments had everything you need but we use to pop across on foot ferry to Dartmouth and eat out a lot
Really great property with everything you need in a nice quiet location
We had a great week away we have booked again
Fantastic location for a relaxing break!
What an amazing location this comfortable apartment is in! Well equipped and cosy, very dog friendly and so close to lovely walks along the creek. Our favourite thing was to wander along the creek down into Kingswear then take the passenger ferry over to Dartmouth - only £1.50 each and dogs go for free. Try walking along the path by the railway line in the evening towards the upper car ferry - so atmospheric to see it crossing the river as the sun goes down, all reflected in the water. The apartment was a great base and easy to access, with parking right outside the door. It was a bonus to have a private and secluded back garden even though we didn’t use it because we were so busy exploring the area. The kitchen had everything necessary for a comfortable stay, but would benefit from a tumble dryer as the washing line in the back garden is shaded and not very efficient unless you’re lucky enough to have perfect weather. We just saved our laundry and brought it back to do when we got home, so not a huge problem.
Overall, we loved this holiday and wished we could have stayed longer - so many things to do, so little time to fit them in!
This property is a short walk from the ferry to Dartmouth (with plenty of shops and eating places, boat trips etc.), the steam railway to Paignton, the South West coast path, the marina at Kingswear. So there is plenty to do on the doorstep and lots more lovely places to visit nearby. The apartment had everything we needed and had been recently refurbished. The owners were helpful and friendly. My only slightly negative point would be that the house is in a steep-sided valley and therefore this ground floor apartment is quite dark.
Waterhead Creek is 100 yards away where you can launch small boats and canoes there or sit on the green with a picnic and watch the swans and seabirds (there is often an Egret pottering about when the tide is out). Alternatively, walk either side of the creek another two hundred yards (5 mins) to the river Dart with the marina, ferries and coastal/river walks. There are two small beaches in Dartmouth or a good selection of larger ones, either side of the river within a short drive.
