Alpine Vue Self Catering Ski Apartment offers perfect for winter skiing from December - April with main ski lift less than 1 minutes walk accessing 20 slopes for beginners to advanced. This includes the 'Lost Valley' run through unspoilt forest scenery for skiers and boarders who enjoy the peace and quiet. Our apartment is close to all amenities in the self contained traditional hamlet of La Grande Terche with bars, restaurants, supermarket, ski school, ski hire and St Jean D'Aulps main village 5 minutes away. A ski bus can take you to the next town of Morzine with access to the Portes de Soleil region and over 650km of skiing - the largest ski area in the Alps. St Jean D'Aulps is a traditional Savoyard style village with restaurants and shops with excellent cafes for afternoon coffee.
Owners fell in love with the area around St Jean d'Aulps and decided to buy the apartment 10 years ago.
Once you visit the area you'll quickly understand why we chose here whether you come to stay in Winter or Summer!
Quiet "French-feel" village life with everything you need for an enjoyable stay in the Alps. Close enough to the busier side of things when you want it but tucked away and quiet for the rest of the time. For those with young children this location is excellent in summer and winter. The ski school for little ones is superb and the extended 'Green' and 'Blue' runs now mean there's a really thriving learning environment with no crowds.
This was our third time back at Grande Terche, and we had the best time ever.
The apartment was ideal for 2 adults and 2 teenagers, enough space for everyone yet very warm and cosy after a day on the slopes. Great location, we will be going back
"LOVELY APARTMENT AND GREAT LOCATION IN THE VILLAGE"
We had a lovely time on our long weekend at this apartment. Surprisingly for one bedroom apartment, it has loads of space and can easily sleep 6. For only two of us it was very spacious. The location is perfect being within 100m of the bars, restaurants, shops and ski lift at St Jean. The village is lovely and very traditional but also makes an ideal base for the larger resorts of the Portes Du SoleIl, allowing us to return to a traditional village atmosphere for the evenings which we really enjoyed.
Nearest neach is at Lac Montriond, 5km. There is also Lac Leman just over 30 minutes drive and the beaches here are stunning at Thonon les Bains, Evian & Yvoires.
Fly to Geneva - our apartment is approximately 1 hour drive. Cheap flights are available to Geneva from most UK airports including Birmingham, Manchester, Doncaster for the Midlands and all London airports. Airport transfers from the airport in the winter season direct to the resort. Car hire from Eurocar, National Citer, Hertz etc. For anyone driving during the summer months (advisable) we have concise maps and directions.
Nearest village - we are situated in a small ski station resort so it has a few bars & restaurants, ski school, equipment hire shops, launderette, and a small convenience shop for essentials.
St Jean d'Aulps is the main village about 5m drive into the valley and there you will find shops, tourist information, bars, restaurants and the large Carrefour supermarket for all supplies and homeware.
Morzine is 10 minutes drive and Les Gets is 15 minutes. Avoriaz is 20 minutes.
For those interested in French cuisine and the typical laid back pace of life this is a great place to visit in the summer where you can wander freely in the mountains and experience the alpine air and feeling of space. There are lots of cultural highlights in the area including the ancient churches throughout the valleys and the Abbey in St Jean d’Aulps. Lake Geneva is only 30 minutes away for the lake-side mediaeval villages and likewise, Lake Annecy is 60 minutes away during the summer.
La Grande Terche is one of those places where you still get the feeling you are in France and not in a purpose-built resort overtaken by package holidays. The reason we love it here so much is because of this and the fact that you can spend the majority of your time skiing and not fighting the crowds associated with many of the larger resorts. Undoubtedly, this region is best known for the excellent skiing but that is not all that it has to offer.
