About Justin Haines

This a family owned property with the family living next to the property. We are a married couple with a 9 year old son. We are both professionals and work during the week, whist our son goes to a local village school.

Justin Haines purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Justin Haines chose Wiltshire

Built in 1900 as a stable block and tack room Dovenby Cottage has been used to house horses, donkeys, sheep, chickens, carts and even soldiers on leave from WWII.

In spring 2013 we lovingly converted it to a cottage of the highest quality, whilst keeping many of its period features.

We love this area of the South Cotswolds because whilst being a beautiful part of rural Wiltshire it has great accessibility to a wide range of amenities. We are surrounded by National Trust sites and properties such as Dyrham park, Laycock Abbey and Avebury, plus are very close to Bath and Bristol. One of our favourite things to do at the weekends is to walk to Castle Combe for lunch.

What makes this cottage unique

Dovenby Cottage is a lovely place to snuggle up on a cold day. It has underfloor heating throughout, but if you prefer this can be switched off and you can light a log fire. On warmer days you have a garden and patio, with bbq to enjoy.

The property is just a minutes walk to the village shop and 20 minutes from an award winning pub. It is a slightly longer walk to famous Castle Combe.

Ideally located to venture in to Bath, yet escape the crowds for rural tranquillity at the end of the day.

Special interest holidays:

The area is particularly popular for cyclists and horse-lovers, as Badminton horse trials take place nearby.

Castle Combe: 40 min walk, Laycock 14 miles, Bath 15 miles, Bristol 15 miles, Tetbury 16 miles, Cirencester 26 miles, Malmesbury 12 miles, Cheltenham 30 miles.

Wonderful cottage

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The cottage is excellent and the location is a great base for exploring the charming Cotswolds.

Thanks again Justin and Philippa. PS: we brought some Tesco Lemon Drizzle Cake kits back to Belgium, so we could hang on to that holiday feeling a little longer. We doubt it will be as good as your homemade one though ;-)

A lovely cottage in a very stunning location. Perfect for Cotswold excursions

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is small but not cramped. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom fantastic - we particular liked the bath as we don't have one at home. The kitchen has all mod cons and the cottage is clean throughout. I have only two 'issues' to raise. First, the WiFi seems to demand we log into the BT network every so often - but this is more a frustration aimed at BT from a non BT customer - and it's not like we were using the internet all day. In fact it's good to get away from all that! But one thing I would change is the sofa as it is not too comfortable. Not that we sat around in it all day but if we were staying for longer we would like to have a more relaxing sofa - and perhaps an armchair (although I am not sure where you would put it). But this is minor in that the cottage is a great launch pad to explore the surrounding countryside with plenty of walks and good country air. We particularly enjoyed the walk to Castle Combe. Also it was a very nice touch of the cake, the eggs and the bottle of wine. We didn't drink the wine but it was appreciated non the less! Overall a really good stay and we enjoyed the few days we were there. Would recommend. Thank you.

A comfortable cozy cottage

  • 4 of 5

We very much enjoyed our 3 day holiday at Dovenby cottage. The cottage was clean and very nicely decorated. Justin welcomed us with a luscious lemon cake, a bottle of wine and fresh eggs-very nice touches. To our surprise we found 2 terry cloth bathrobes for our use in the closet! The large bathroom was a nice treat, with the a deep tub and separate open shower. We didn't use the fireplace but I'm sure that would have made our stay even cozier. Thank you Justin and Philippa!

Lovely Cottage in the South Cotswolds

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place to stay to explore the Cotswolds from. The cottage has been renovated to a high standard and had every thing we needed for the week's stay. Not that we needed it, but a new wood burner had just been installed which will be fantastic to sit beside during stays in the colder months. A bottle of wine, eggs from the hens on the property and a home baked cake awaited our arrival. Hosts Phillippa and Justin were great and have put a lot of work into to the information booklet about walks, places to eat and places to visit. Would highly recommend.

Owner's Response: Great guests! We often don't get to meet our guests, or just say a quick hello as we hand over the key, but were lucky enough to share a glass of wine/beer with Paul and Kathy one very warm evening. Our son Charlie was sad that 'the tall Australian guy' had left as he was fun playing catch with a tennis ball. Enjoy the rest of your UK tour and thanks for visiting Dovenby cottage.
