About Susanna Proudfoot

Although we live near Oxford, we spend as much time at Bryn Engan as possible. We've now been here 12 years, and have been generously welcomed by our very Welsh neighbours; we have so many friends here now. Dw i'n dysgu Cymraeg!.

Why Susanna Proudfoot chose Wales

Perfectly placed to enjoy magnificent Snowdonia with so many attractions and the lovely Llyn peninsula with its great beaches, Bryn Engan is a brilliant place to spend time together. When we first drove down the lane, we knew we had found a very special place, and we like to think that everyone who comes here shares the same sense of discovery when they drive down the first time.

What makes this house unique

You'll find everything you need to make your stay at Bryn Engan comfortable, from the well- equipped kitchen, comfortable sitting room and large dining table to seat up to 12. Pool table and table tennis make sure you won't be bored on rainy days! Outside, a massive picnic table with views over sea and mountains: magic......

Guestbook comments from the owner

We all had a really lovely time, the cottage and location was amazing. We all fell in love with the place, so peaceful. Ross Carter, Aug 2013

Bryn Engan was easy to find, clean, tidy, comfortable and cheerful. It has an exceptional stock of plates, cups, bowls, cutlery and cooking equipment; it is absolutely ideal for large parties. All of the equipment functioned well. The setting is stunning and we loved the remoteness of it. If you have young children or need to collect provisions you will be dependent on a car - this is the only very minor draw back we found. That said, Criccieth is great for those who like shopping in old fashioned shops. We did not go into a supermarket once during our stay. Also, with a car it is a great location to get to the Snowdonia National Park, the Lynn beaches, the castles, the railways and Anglesey.

Great secluded house

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic farmhouse with everything needed to cater and entertain large groups.

Photos do not do this place justice, plenty of space inside and out. We had frisbee and football with us which are well used.

Stunning views from the picnic table where we spent most of our time.

12 adults in our group and never felt crowded. The pool room was great and well used in the evenings.

Wish we had stayed longer, weekend was not enough to take it in.

Information provided was good and regular contact with the owner.

Long drive from Leeds on a busy Bank holiday weekend but worth it.

Bryn Engan - Place to make memories

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic house with all needs met. Just arriving at the cottage made us smile and when we opened the door we we were already planning numerous further stays.

The owners had thought of everything. Well equipped kitchen, great facilities, comfy beds and the whole house was tastefully decorated!

Our group had a relaxing but fun time and would highly recommend it.

It was well worth the 5 hour journey to get there.

The picnic bench overlooking the valley is very special.

Fantastic house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

I've just returned from my first stay in Bryn Engan, and am certain it won't be my last.

We booked the house for the New Year period, and it comfortably accommodated our whole group, including a toddler. It never felt cramped or overcrowded, and everyone was able to find their own space when they needed a break!

It was also brilliant that we could fit everyone in the front room at once, and the huge dining table accommodated a massive second-Christmas dinner for 12! (as well as numerous board games).

The location for us was brilliant. As we wanted to have a bit of a New Year party, we didn't want to be disturbing anyone, and with the fantastic seclusion you get, we didn't. We also made full use of the pool and table tennis facilities, it's particularly good that the pool room is heated.

We came at a very cold time, but between the heating, the wood burner and the comfy beds and bedding, we were cosy inside whilst 80mph gusts buffeted the windows! Very nice.

It's a beautiful house, everyone was exclaiming as they came in how cosy and homely it is, and it's really well equipped - unlike some places we have stayed, it really is made for a large amount of people. Lots of crockery and cutlery, plenty of fridge space, and some books and games to keep you entertained.

We had a couple of day trips to Portmeirion and to the seaside, and some of the group used the house as a base for walking, so it's well positioned for a variety of activities. It's close enough to be used as a base for climbing too, as the heart of Snowdonia is a short drive away.

Finally, the owners are really helpful and friendly, which always makes a stay that much better. We arrived to a nice note, a spotlessly clean house and a fully stocked supply of firewood. I absolutely cannot fault Bryn Engan as a place to stay, at any time of year, and for large groups it really is a fantastic option that has it all.

We have just returned from a two night stay at Bryn Engan. We were there to celebrate my mother-in-laws 60th birthday - 10 adults and a two year old and it was the perfect venue!! We had a wonderful time. It is a great size for a large family get together, very well equipped, clean with everything we could need. Its location is beautiful and has good locality to a range of lovely walks and activities. Susanna was a most helpful host and could not have been more helpful and informative in the lead up. Thank you we hope to return again soon! x
