Guestbook comments from the owner

We spent three glorious weeks in this very interesting old property, in fact we enjoyed it so much we booked to return next year before we left. It is ideally situated, close to the friendly shops, Birgu square, and overlooking the Marina and Senglea from the roof terrace. The interior of the house is nicely furnished, and every need was catered for. The 3 Cities we found most interesting, packed with history if so desired. We found it fascinating. There are several good restaurants, a few small bars, regular public transport to other nice areas, and good walking, Valletta is only a 10 minute ferry ride away which in our opinion makes this holiday ideal, quiet and peaceful on one hand, or a hop across to the busy Capital.

The feast of St. Domenic is also held around the same period. The Birgu Fest is also very famous and held every October where one of the nights is Birgu by Candlelight, which is a magical night not to be missed.

Plenty of other activities during the year include concerts, shows, exhibitions, folk and cultural activities in the Square and along the waterfront. Processions and exhibitions are held during the Christmas, Lent and Easter period.

Soggiorno meraviglioso

  • 5 of 5

Everything we'd hoped for and more

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely agree with all the good things previous reviewers have said. Simple, stylish, stone-built house, beautifully modernised right in the historic, buzzy heart of Vittoriosa. Little shops, bars, restaurants to choose from in the square (one even printed our Ryanair return boarding passes for us). The ferry across the Grand Harbour to Valetta is the most idyllic way to begin and end a day's exploring. We were glad we hadn't hired a car - buses were reliable and went everywhere we wanted to go. A lovely welcome from Karys and Ramon. The house is tall and thin, so you have to be able to do stairs! In the whole of Malta, Vittoriosa (Il Birgu) is the place to be, and Sardinella is the place to stay.

All we could have hoped for!

  • 5 of 5

Ramon and Karys' chrarming home lived up to their description and we loved it! It was exceptionally clean and well maintained. Ramon was at the airport to meet us and gave us an initial tour of the neighbourhood. He and Karys are extremely charming and seem to enjoy welcoming guests. We loved the neighbourhood -- the shop down stairs had everything we needed and we enjoyed exploring the restaurants on the square -- especially the garden terrace at Bebirgu.

Ramon was generous to help us out when we had a medical problem and made us feel like we had family far away from home.

We recommend their home for couples who are looking for a place with some history.

We loved using the public ferries and buses.

One place we particularly enjoyed ( not an official tourist attraction) is the French Auberge that is now a town office of some sort in Birgu.

Authentic, cultural, peaceful,

  • 5 of 5

The house was exactly as advertised. It is a 2 minute walk to the main square with shops and restaurants, 2 minutes to the maritime museum, forts, etc., and a 2 minute walk to the waterfront to catch a boat to Valletta or to stroll alongside the marina. Very convenient. You really don't need a car. But we did have a car and it was an easy day trip to M'dina and other arts of the island. Of the 3 cities Birgu is the best if you want to experience a real village where locals live and work. It is also the most quaint in my opinion. The owners have taken a lot of care in ensuring guests a clean, comfortable stay. They really went above and beyond for us, giving us great information, directions, a parking pass, a starter pack with wine, break, coffee, etc. Their hospitality was genuine and very much appreciated. I would highly recommend this place. Oh, and the roof top terrace has outstanding views!
