About Camilla Tetley

We are a large farming family, l arrange flowers for all occasions and used to do silk flowers. My husband is ex army and farmed as well as ran racecourses.

Camilla Tetley purchased this barn in 1970

Why Camilla Tetley chose North Yorkshire

We have farmed this farm for 2 generations but were not using the buildings. The buildings were disintegrating and depressing us so we decided to do them up and convert them to a holiday cottage. This has been a great success done by 2 local boys within walking distance, one was a plumber and one an electrician who could both build.

What makes this barn unique

This property is very quiet on a farm with cows looking over the fence, the view of the Howardian Hills is lovely but you are also within easy distance of moors, sea, dales and some beautiful villages with good eating places. The cottage has been purpose built for disabled as we have an ageing Mother and we are not too young ourselves ! We are unique as it is just one unit so very peaceful with a very sheltered garden you can enjoy.

Excellent accommodation

  • 5 of 5

Listing, location and layout excellent. Bedroom on each side of living room and kitchen, superb shower and bathrooms, best layout of any rented holiday home. All mod cons in a beautiful country setting with easy access to all Yorkshire 's many attractions.Friendly yet unobtrusive hosts - no need for any additional service - everything provided - including a welcoming bottle of wine, milk and delicious cake! No hesitation in recommending the Cow Byre to anyone looking for an ideal holiday let.

Fantastic accommodation in North Yorks

  • 5 of 5

Camilla and her husband made us feel so welcome. The property is beautifully designed and decorated...a great, comfortable place to relax. It is in the perfect location for having day trips locally and nearer the coast. We hope to go back again soon!

Lovely cottage in a beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week, but could have easily been persuaded to stay longer! The cottage is ideal for a quiet break away from it all, it's been painstakingly renovated throughout with no expense spared anywhere, we were welcomed with cake, some provisions, and a bottle of wine! Camilla was the perfect host, welcoming but discreet, we have no hesitation in recommending this for a rural holiday.

A Home away from Home!

  • 5 of 5

The Cow Byre is an excellent converted property, providing spacious accommodation with a light and airy feel. It has been tastefully furnished, is very comfortable, and is immaculately clean. We particularly enjoyed the private and quiet rural location, with cattle grazing in the adjacent field. We also appreciated the little touches: the bottle of wine, the delicious cake, the milk in the fridge and the flowers.

The property is well situated for visiting the many attractions in the area, with the likes of Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall and Flamingo Land just a short journey away, and even places such as Whitby, Scarborough and York within easy reach. In fact, there is so much to see and enjoy that a visit of one week is clearly insufficient. We shall just have to return. Thank you Camilla and Christopher for a lovely stay. We have no hesitation in recommending the Cow Byre to others. And if anyone is looking for a nice meal of an evening, look no further than the Grapes at Great Habton. You will not be disappointed!

Excellent property for a family stay near York

  • 5 of 5

We stayed over Easter with two primary school aged children. Malton and Pickering are both short drives away, making this cottage an ideal location to explore the North York Moors, the Coast and York, as well as being within 5 minutes drive of Flamingoland.

The cottage is still relatively new and has been converted to a very high standard. It's fair to say that all of the rooms are huge, creating a fantastic feeling of space and light. Even at Easter, the property was warm, with good heating and a log burner in the living room.

The kids loved running up and down the main living area and playing in the huge lawned area which is enclosed on three sides. We loved the little touches, that were pretty much everywhere in the cottage, making it feel like we were at home. This includes the unexpected Easter Egg!

The owners were very helpful and made sure we had everything we could want. Even their pets were friendly. All of us enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to go back.
