About Mrs Fiona Long

I grew up at the farm and the cottage was our family home. We have lots of happy memories of time spent at the cottage. I am now a mum of 4 and our family love the outdoors and spending time with cousins and grandparents at the farm.

Why Mrs Fiona Long chose North Yorkshire

The house is on a working farm near to Brimham Rocks and offers lots to do locally whilst being away from the 'madding crowds'. It is situated on the 'way of the roses' cycle route, not far from the Nidderdale Way. Harrogate is approximately 10 miles away whilst Pateley Bridge is only 4 miles away. Brimham Rocks is within easy walking distance albeit up hill on the way there, its all down hill on the way back!

What makes this farmhouse unique

The property is a detached house which has been extended and improved over the years. The original part is probably circa 1800 whilst the newer parts are much more recent. It has been refurbished throughout so offers both character and modern convenience.

A large snooker table is situated in the dining room and converts to provide a dining table if required.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hello Fiona,

We had the most wonderful weekend, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Such a warm, comfortable home. The weather was shocking but it didn't hamper our plans. Loved cooking on the aga. The touch of the wine & shortbread & cake was unexpected and highly appreciated.

We hope to return again soon.

Thank you.

Sarah

Absolutely brilliant!

  • 5 of 5

We spent many days trying to find the perfect place to stay to celebrate my 25th birthday, and came across this place!

It was amazing! Words can't even describe how perfect it was for us all. Shortbread and prosecco on arrival, there was plenty of room, the rooms were all lovely and everyone said just how comfy the beds were! The snooker table was a big hit with us and we all loved just how peaceful the area was when we were outside BBQ'ing.

There's lots of small villages and towns about a 5-10 minute drive away and you are literally around the corner from Brimham Rocks.

We will definitely return and recommend to everyone!

Also many thanks to Fiona for allowing us to stay even though she was away on holiday. Your mum was very friendly on arrival and she was only around the corner if we needed her!

Beautiful cottage and setting for hen-do

  • 5 of 5

Such an amazing and beautiful place for 10 of us on my friends hen weekend. There was nothing this cottage did not have. The homemade shortbread that greeted us on our arrival was delicious. Just a 30 min taxi ride into Harrogate. Will definitely be returning and recommending it to others.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS FARMHOUSE

  • 5 of 5

After a long drive to the farmhouse we were welcomed with homebaked shortbread, which was hungrily devoured by 9 of us!!! The house is vast and beautiful as are the surroundings. Plenty to discover on the farm and all members of the family are very very friendly and accommodating. Situated in a really convenient spot not too farm from anywhere amazing. Visited Whitby, 40's Weekend in Pateley Bridge, Brimham Rocks, Fountains Abbey (gorgeous day out!!), York, Harrogate, Lightwater Valley theme park.

I'm a "Townie" through and through, but we loved this holiday so much that once our daughter completes her education, my partner and I are going to move to this area as it is just beautiful.

Fiona and her family are so friendly. If I had one complaint it was difficult to cook for 9 in the aga oven. To say its slow is an understatement, so my advice is to take precooked food items, and a slow cooker. If weather kind to you then BBQ is fabulous, but we were all on a budget as 4 adults with 5 children with varying pallets could have been costly. Aga on the other hand was magnificant at drying clothes!!!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you had such an enjoyable time and cooking on the Aga is certainly a skill to be learnt! Mum is always happy to advise and demonstrate with years of experience. The area certainly has lots to offer, we are still discovering and we live there! :) We always welcome everyone and try and assist in making your holiday the best it can be. See you soon hopefully!

Perfect Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

After spending numerous evenings searching for the perfect cottage for my Hen Do we found Braisty Woods and WHAT a find! It was ideal!

The cottage sleeps 10 comfortably and has lots of room. The snooker table was a great hit! It was good to see that the cottage had lots of pots, mugs, plates ect as often places say they cater 10 but actually its a struggle!

We had a wonderful welcome when we arrived, homemade shortbread warming on the Aga and Champagne chilling in the fridge! The owner was happy to help us with directions and recommendations for a take away on the first night too.

I really couldn't fault the cottage and would recommend it to anyone! We went into Harrogate a number of times during the weekend (30mins) and even managed to get a taxi too.

Perfect location for a trip to see Brimham Rocks!

We are already hoping for a return trip. Thank you again for a perfect weekend :) Jenna & Hens. x

Fab New Year

  • 5 of 5

Had a fabulous stay in this charming cottage and couldn't have asked for more. The house was decorated beautifully and the christmas decs were still up which was a nice touch!

The owner baked us some fresh shortbread which was warming on the aga when we arrived and tasted delicious - thanks!

The house itself was lovely and clean, well equipped for cooking and only a 30 minute walk to brimham rocks, and to the local Sam Smiths pub.

Highly recommended.

X

Car recommended.

Distances:

Summerbridge - 1 mile on foot, 2 miles by car.

Pateley Bridge - 4 miles by car.

Brimham Rocks - 1 mile on foot.

Further Details:

Our quiet location makes it easy to stay put and enjoy the clean air and beautiful landscape but if you are more adventurous there is plenty to see and do; approx 1 mile away on foot is Brimham Rocks a remarkable collection of weathered rocks that have formed magnificent sculptures, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal are 15 mins drive away: the ruins of a 12th Century Cistercian Abbey (the largest in Europe) alongside a beautiful Georgian Water Garden and peaceful Deer Park. For walkers we have the Nidderdale Way, literally on the door step and many other beautiful places to explore. For historians there is a wealth of ancient buildings; Ripon's Cathedral which dates from 672AD, over 1300 years old! For cyclists - we are situated on the "Way of the Roses" route and Le Tour Yorkshire leaves a cycling legacy with the route being not far from the farm! For families there is an enviable choice. Tree climbing, pond dipping, and river jumping are all to be had within minutes! For more formal activities there are any number of attractions: Light water Valley is a 25 minute drive away and offers roller-coaster thrills and spills; How Stean Gorge is the site of a Highwayman's hideout and now offers abseiling, gorge-walking and kayaking with Studfold Farm at Lofthouse great for families with children. The Forbidden Corner is a wonderful folly and defies description but I heartily recommend it for the strangest day out! Shoppers and Spa seekers can head to Harrogate, just 30 minutes away and Pateley Bridge, 3 miles away has Ye Olde Sweet Shop.

Caterers can be arranged as can activities such as clay pigeon shooting, mountain biking and many others, we're happy to help arrange an action packed visit or a cosy quiet relaxing break.
