Built in the early 1900s this property is situated on a corner by the old Old College Street Bridge. This street and also the property has true character and oozes with charm. We have made sure that the design stands out and that the house is extreemly practical for travellers who want an idyllic escape in an urban surrounding. 50 meters down the road you come out into Balluta Square that is one of the highlights in the Sliema & St. Julians area. Restaurants, spas, transport, shopping and everything else is readily available in this area. The property is full of little extra luxuries. We made sure that guests are pampered and fall in love with this property on arrival. Towels, linens, soaps and all the decorative objects have been chosen with care to ensure a five star experience.
I am a well established interior designer in Malta. We design any type of residential property. This is what lead me into wanting to design my own properties and rent them out. I also do love the beach and the summer months in Malta and hence got this property that is close to the sea - the unspoilt Maltese sea.
Kenneth Tanti purchased this house in 2013
Balluta square in St.Julians is a beautiful and picturesque area. It is right in the centre between St. Julians and Sliema and is full of charm and traditional character. Surrounded by history and modern life at the same time.
This property is being renovated to the highest standard. All designer finished by our in house design team. All the furniture is of highest specification from Italy. Bedroom and living room are fully air conditioned, kitchen is fully decked out with dishwasher, fridge, freezer, microwave, oven and electric stove. The bathroom comprises of a large walk in shower, carved marble wash hand basin and wc. The living room is equipped with TV and serviced by a cable provider that shows most stations. The finish is guaranteed to provide the tenant with a home away from home.
Lynn and I have just spent the most fantastic week in Malta in a wonderful unique town house, close to Sliema restaurants and ferries. The town house is magnificent and well worth booking and Kenneth was incredibly helpful, organising transfers to and from the airport.
This is a must for the discerning traveller, luxury at an affordable cost
The pictures do not do this townhouse justice, it is even more beautiful in real life! Very clean too thanks to the lovely cleaner. Perfect location with shops, bars, cafes, restraunts and ferry to Valletta all within a short walking distance but still remains to be in a quiet uncrowded area. Although we would recommend hiring a car to get to further attractions such as St. Peter's pool and other beaches, we used gold car and despite the bad reviews they were fab! Parking is very easy straight outside the property too. Do not use captain Morgan's day trip to blue lagoon as it is crammed full of people, instead try the smaller boat trips. Our favourite restraunt was salt and pepper, by far the best mussels!
We had high hopes of this property and we certainly weren't disappointed. The owner had booked us a taxi from the airport and we were met at the property and showed around etc leaving us with a contact number/email should there by any issues. The place is absolutely beautiful, spotlessly clean and very spacious with everything you need. The traditional Maltese balcony was great, shady in a morning to enjoy a cuppa and warm on an evening to enjoy watching the world go by. The Wi-Fi was a bonus and most bars/restaurants also have free wi-fi. The property is naturally cool and the added bonus of aircon in the lounge and bedroom made for a comfortable stay. The location is fabulous, a 2 minute stroll to Balutta Square with excellent restaurants/cafes and only a ten minute walk along the boardwalk to Spinola Bay where there is a marina and plenty of shops from gift shops to high end jewellers - something for everyone's taste and budget. We found a shortcut opposite the property that took us straight to Sliema waterfront in about ten minutes where you can catch the ferry to Valetta or hop on the bus tours. Again, plenty of shops from Rolex to M&S and everything in between. Everywhere was very clean, no litter or cigarette ends and we felt very safe having no issues exploring the backstreets after 10pm, We did a couple of tours, north and south island which were fun. We also did a cruise to Gozo and Comino but this was the only disappointment as we only got half an hour on the beach - we were supposed to go the Blue Lagoon but there were so many people there, we couldn't get on the beach so went to Santa Maria bay 5 minutes away which was very peaceful. Elsewhere around the island, there were large numbers of jellyfish but as we didn't go for a beach holiday, it wasn't a problem for us and there is a swimming pool on the bay which wasn't overcrowded. The history and buildings are fascinating, the locals are extremely friendly and the food is great. Our favourite restaurant, Fortizza does the most amazing steaks and we ate there 5 nights out of 10 it was so good. We tried the Bulgarian restaurant on the Bay, Salt & Pepper but this was the worst meal we had, tough and tasteless steak and very little customer service (and it was my 50th birthday - should have stayed with Fortizza!).
We would highly recommend this property, it certainly made our holiday and my birthday. The owner also arranged a taxi back to the airport for us :-)
We have stayed in Owners Direct properties a few times, they have all been good, but this one is special. Fantastic interior decor and very spacious. Contains all you would need. The location is ideal being a short walk from Balluta Bay with its ample choice of restaurants and shops and for catching the bus to everywhere. The buses are one payment of 6.5 euro to cover all journeys for a week or 1.5 euro for a whole day. Our favourite restaurant, Fresco's, is two streets away overlooking the bay. Good food, good service, great view.
The apartment is as it says in the brief - beautifully and tastefully decorated with all your need. From the fresh bed linen to the well equipped kitchen it makes you feel living is easy. The buses, ferries, shops and restaurants are all within walking distance. We used the local hotels Spa (the Meridien) which has day rates (waived in you book a treatment) which accessed a pool etc.
The house has been sensitively restored and retains all the flavour of the early 19th century. All renovation has been carried out to a high standard and the interior decor is exceptional. Congratulations to the Interior Designer!
The Sitting Room and Bedroom are both spacious and comfortable.
The Kitchen is spacious and fully fitted to a high standard but lacks a few essential cooking utensils particularly if, like us, you prefer to create some of your own meals. This is well worthwhile as all the fruit, veg, fish and meat you buy is fresh, and seems to have more taste than that back home.
We, of course, sampled some of the restaurants and found them to be first class. Maltese food is obviously Mediterranean but has its own specialities. Fresh fish of the day is well worth a try. They also have their own special Pies! Looks like a medium size pork pie but with an open top and different contents. Try one! or two!
Try a boat trip around the seven harbours in Valletta, takes about an hour also check out the mid-day firing of the cannon.
We did a lot of exploration on foot and by the islands bus system. In our opinion this is the best way to see Malta and absorb its history. A weekly bus pass will cost you 6.5 Euros and is well worth it, not only to get you from the house into Valletta, but to access the whole island.
We received excellent service from the owners and the Maid called once per week to change all towels and linen. She also washed all the tiled floors and left the place spotless. A job well done.
Would have no problems in recommending this property to family and friends, or anyone else.
Special interest holidays:
Within a 5 minute walk one comes across the beautiful Radisson hotel. This hotel offers a fantastic spa service, indoor and outdoor pool, sauna, steam room, gym and many other activities.
There are plenty of swimming areas in St. Julians and Sliema. They are all around the coast and one may walk around and have a dip in the spot that tickles your fancy the most.
Public transport (main lines) pass down on the main road in the square. There are also buses direct to the airport, Gozo ferries etc.
St. Julians and Sliema are central to most of the places of interest in Malta. No where is really far on the island anyway.
Around the town one will find many grocery stores, supermarkets, restaurants etc.. you mention it and its there. However the area is still very quite and quaint.
