About Clive Bartram

My wife runs a small business with our youngest daughter, she loves meeting people and has great sense of humour. I have loved and worked with old buildings for many years and continue to help clients, when they run into problems with difficult repairs. We both enjoy and value our down time together, we are always looking forward to and planning our next time out!

Like many people today we have travelled extensively, We like to stay in nice places, with a touch of luxury and charm. So we have tried to create a special destination that we would love to stay ourselves. We are therefore delighted when our guests express their pleasure in the breaks they have taken with us.

Clive Bartram purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Clive Bartram chose Malvern Hills

We both fell in love with Oldcastle Farm when we first saw it, my wife loved the Tudor framed buildings named in the doomsday book which we have carefully restored over the years, I was taken with the position, sitting in the foothills of the Malverns, tucked away in a beautiful spot, with views to die for. We are part of a pretty village, with classic cricket green and Norman church. We are so close to all the amenities, the village and towns close by, with many social and cultural attractions, throughout the year.

What makes this cottage unique

Our four children have now all left home, I like to cycle and walk the hills, my wife likes to relax in true tranquillity. We both love the gardens and the lake with its wildlife, the duck chicks in the spring, it all gives us great pleasure as the seasons unfold. We are keen for our guests to enjoy all that Oldcastle offers and perhaps also to be captured by its atmosphere and beauty, as we have been.

Great cottage stay in a beautiful location.

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of four that stayed for a week at Hot Tub Cottage. It is located in the foothills of the Malvern Hills range. A stunning location, at the end of a country lane, in the village of Colwall. The cottage itself was clean and tidy and equipped with all things needed for a self catering holiday. We had a slight issue working the oven, but this was due to our own ignorance and not the appliance itself! A call to Clive was responded to in person.

One note would be that extra towels be available, when staying for a week plus.

All in all, a good time was had in the countryside!

Enjoyable 7 days family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Excellent. Within easy reach of village, and good restaurants/ pubs. 15 minutes drive to both Malvern and Ledbury. Can recommend The Olive Tree Italian Restaurant in Ledbury, good atmosphere & food. Enjoyed family get together at the local cricket Festival, but also did our own individual days away in the nearby historic towns.

Access to the Malvern Hills only half a mile walk across the fields from the cottage, and enjoyed refreshments at the Malvern hills Hotel & Inn afterwards.

Take advantage of the hot tub after the walks on the hills -very relaxing.

Ideal for a family

  • 5 of 5

A lovely house to stay in. Comfortably slept 6 of us and the kitchen was very well equipped. Bed comfortable and linen clean. A couple of remote cop trolls that didn't work but we could still operate the TVs and I guess if no one had mentioned it Clive and June would never know! We will certainly rebook for next year, a little gem of a cottage.

A little disappointing for a family / families

  • 3 of 5

We stayed here for 4 nights as a group of 2 families. 2 couples with 2 young children and a baby. The house is nice, it's in a lovely remote location and the hosts are around to help where needed. However this house is not really suitable for young kids or babies. The loft room has not been properly soundproofed, there are small gaps where light comes through that go through to the lower rooms which means you can hear everything. Bearing in mind we had a baby and young children all adults spent a lot of time awake at night. The garden is nice but there are gaps in the fence which meant that a dog from the neighbouring property could roam in which meant we needed an adult to supervise. Sadly we had to leave a night early as we were exhausted after 3 nights of no sleep. If you are child free and/or don't mind thin walls then the house is fine.

Lovely setting, but bit tired

  • 1 of 5

The area in which the cottage is located in is lovely as is the farm setting. However, the garden with the cottage is tiny; a small rectangle of grass. It's bordered by a high hedge so whilst the living area has big windows it makes it very dark inside and you don't get a good view.

We found the decor and accessories to be quite tired given that it's not cheap to stay there. It looks like it might have been nice a few years ago.

The shower bathroom is an extension made from wood and stinks of mould despite the window being permanently open.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your feedback, we welcome any comments so we can improve areas where clients feel improvements can be made. The bathroom is of timber frame construction as are many house new and old homes alike, it was totally newly fitted just 3 years ago all brand new shower, loo. basin, tiling etc with a complete new wet room floor fitted this year. We have re siliconed a small section of the shower as this was the only thing where we could find any discolouration not mould but hard water limescale, we can't find any mould?? I also don’t understand what you mean with regard to decor being quite tired, the cottage was totally refurbished 3 years ago, all new furniture, beds, sofa, chairs and carpets & accessories then. We continue to upgrade and refurbish each year with new main bathroom fittings and a larger freezer and a new wet room and bathroom floor this year added a few weeks ago. Its a puzzle we continually receive compliments for the decor and furnishings in hot tub cottage. With regard to the gardens the cottage is on a private plot that is just under a quarter of an acre you only refer to one part of the cottage gardens, there is a larger area where the hot tub and bbq is located, with spectacular views of the Malverns?? and there nearly ten acres of gardens around the plot for further use if required, again i don’t understand. We are sorry if you had some concerns with your stay, i wish you had raised your points with us, while you were staying, so we could understand your comments more clearly, after all we do ask you in our welcome letter, to let us know immediately, if there is anything we can do to help improve your stay. Then if we failed to respond to your concerns, i could understand your disappointment.
