|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
Lyme Cottage is just 2 minutes from a sandy beach and set just back from the famous Cobb in the World Heritage Site of Lyme Regis. The cottage was originally built for Lyme Regis’ coastguards and has now been completely refurbished to a high standard. The architect-led renovations have both revived the charm of the original building and incorporated modern facilities to ensure you have a fantastic break. Every room at Lyme Cottage has been carefully planned to help make best use of the space to ensure that you thoroughly enjoy your stay. The new fitted kitchen opens out into the living/dining space so that preparing a meal can be a social occasion. There are plenty of options for dining - out on the terrace with views over the sea, in the front conservatory or in the secluded rear courtyard.
Lyme Cottage has been in my family for three generations but was in a fairly poor state of repair when I first came down to stay. The simplest option would have been to sell up - but I have never been tempted. Lyme Regis is endlessly gorgeous and I felt that the cottage had the potential to be something very special...
It took almost three years of work to get everything in shape for you and I can't wait to hear what you think!
Sam Milford purchased this house in 1971
Lyme Cottage was built in 1860 and is an important part of Lyme's heritage. The terrace was initially built to house the town's coastguards and later became home to fishermen. Lyme Cottage was Grade 2 listed in the 1970s.
The area is absolutely stunning. Coming down Cobb Road towards the cottage takes your breath away - with a view that is never the same twice.
You don't have to love dinosaurs to be staggered by the local geology... the Jurassic rocks are exposed along the beaches and we're actively encouraged top collect 200 million year old fossils before they are eaten away by the sea!
I've really tried to make sure that Lyme Cottage is something special.
In planning for the renovations I used heritage architects to ensure that the charm of the house wasn't lost, whilst bringing it all right up to date so that it's a gorgeous, comfortable place to stay. I've tried to think of everything!
Although this a relatively small coastguard cottage the photos should give you an idea of the sense of space that we've created by not trying to cram too much in, and by leaving you space to fill when you arrive!
I'm very grateful for all the comments left by guests over the last 18 months... we have taken every suggestion on board and continue to do our best to make sure that every detail is right for your stay.
This lovely cottage had everything that our family needed, with great extras that you don't usually find, like herbs and spices, tea and coffee and even ice in the freezer!
The cottage was decorated to a high standard, with modern kitchen and bathrooms, and lovely comfy beds. The WiFi was also included (phone reception is not great in Lyme, so this was much appreciated).
We had great communication from the owner, who provided a high chair and travel cot for then our nine month old grandson. We love Lyme Regis, and cannot wait to return to this home from home just seconds from The Cobb.
We loved our stay at the Cobb. The cottage is very well designed and equiped. Lots of great extras too, like the hifi, washing machine and the kitchen is fantastic.
Sam the owner was a pleasure to deal with as well.
Great holiday, we will be returning, which is the best endorsement you can give.
We really enjoyed our short stay. The cottage is warm and comfortable. It is very well equipped, with an excellent kitchen equipment, lots of towels and a lovely deck overlooking the sea, just right for an evening sundowner.
On my arrival at Lyme Cottage I immediately started to relax. Aside from having everything at hand to make your holiday special it exudes a warm inviting home from home atmosphere the minute you step through the door. The cottage is ideally located only a few minutes walk away from the beach and the Cobb. I would like to think that I will return in the very near future and cannot recommend it highly enough as a holiday retreat.
Lovely cottage with a modern renovation but still has some period qualities.
There's everything you will need. Great sea views and great location.
Will definitely return.
The cottage is perfectly positioned near the Cobb with a south facing garden to maximise the sun and the views. It is a very comfortable and stylish base for exploring the beautiful Dorset and Devon coastline. We enjoyed exploring Lyme itself and relaxing in the very well equipped cottage.
Less than a minute's walk to the historic Cobb (harbour) area for boat trips, fishing and views of the bay, and less than 2 minute's walk to the popular sandy beach and facilities.
Nearest airports are Bristol (62 miles) and Southampton (80 miles). 27 miles from the port of Weymouth. Nearest mainline train station is Axminster (5 miles).
5 miles to Axminster.
Lyme Regis is at the heart of the Jurassic Coast, an official World Heritage Site, with ample opportunities for fossil collecting along the Blue Lias cliffs. The high street is bustling with shops offering local produce and restaurants. The historic Cobb is easily recognisable (features in The French Lieutenant's Woman), and the town hosts regular fossil, literary and arts festivals throughout the year.
