Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

4 of us stayed here for a joint 50th Birthday treat, and what a treat it was.

From the start to finish we enjoyed every moment of our stay. We arrived to homemade bread and a bottle of wine, chose our bedrooms, unpacked and the weekend began. The bedrooms are spacious well equipped, and the beds comfortable. One hair dryer supplied. The layout of the bedrooms would suit two family's with two rooms next to each other , and one across from the living accommodation.

We had ordered a food delivery from Tesco, which arrived on time, put the champagne on ice and sat on the beautiful veranda and watched the boats chug up the river.

The main room accommodation has everything you need, although we couldn't find the I pod docker, but put the radio on that's on the TV as back ground music.

The kitchen is fully equipped, including t towels, washing liquid and sponges.

There is also cleaning solutions to keep the showerooms fresh, not found in many holiday lets.

We ate at the Chequers pub ( recommended) just up the road 3 times, as it's a 5 min walk, and the food and service are second to none, but cooked all our breakfasts in the lodge. We even managed to enjoy a BBQ on our first night.

There is constant hot water, and the heating works well, we had to turn it off as the lodge warmed up really quickly, and we were lucky to have mild weather.

Oxford park and ride is really easy to drive to, and just a short bus ride into the middle of Oxford a must visit trip.

Wildlife is in abundance, rabbits, Kites, one deer and squirrel all came to have a nosy at us.

The sunsets at night are worthy of photos, as are the views. Would love to come back soon.

Extremely Comfortable Lodge in a Beautiful, Peaceful Location

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at this wonderful property extremely tired and by the end of our week felt completely refreshed. The tranquillity of the riverside location, the wildlife, the beautiful trees, the occasional boat passing by, the safety of the enclosed garden and the wendy house for children makes this a very relaxing place for families to stay. All bedrooms are ensuite and have very comfortable beds which is perfect. There is plenty of parking immediately outside the property. The fridge freezer is a good size for the number of people the property accommodates. There is masses to do in the area. We visited Oxford, Blenheim Palace Flower Show, Butterfly House and Gardens, the children's water sprinkler play area at Wallingford, the Abbey at Dorchester and took a boat out on the river at Abingdon. We enjoyed sitting by our own private stretch of river and watching the woodpeckers, red kites, herons, squirrels, thrushes, the cows coming to drink from the river on the opposite bank and fish jumping. It was enchanting. Our family party ranged from age 60 to 2 years and we all loved our holiday. This is our second visit to this wonderful property and we would love to stay there again.

Perfect hideaway

  • 4 of 5

Went here for a quiet and relaxing girls weekend. We loved it.

Tricky to find but when we got there we had everything we needed and were close to lovely walks, pubs, coffee shops but in our own little hideaway.

Each bedroom is ensuite which was really handy.

Owner was super helpful with tips and things to do in the area and provided everything we needed. Although it's a lodge it was really warm.

The sofas could do with updating but apart from that all the furniture was really clean and good quality.

Gorgeous location right by the river and really quiet. Big safe garden for kids and plenty of space to park cars.

Would recommend this property for groups, families and couples.

Peaceful and Relaxing Pastoral Get Away

  • 4 of 5

I made the right decision to rent here instead of in Oxford proper. It was so beautiful to sit on the porch, or even from the comfort of the couch, and listen to the breeze in the trees, watch the cows in the fields and several boats motoring up and down the Thames river. It was very, very relaxing.

All three bedrooms had their own full bath, which was very convenient. Very clean and very white! Comfy beds too.

No problem using the television. Fans were helpful as we had a heatwave while we were there. Otherwise, the windows and doors were always open.

Although it wasn't listed, there was a hair dryer tucked away in a drawer which we discovered after buying one. The iron came in handy.

We rented a car at Heathrow and had no problem finding the house after we realized we were coming from another direction than the instructions described. Also, the signs to the house are very small and hard to see, so you literally have to turn at the 30mph sign.

We drove to the Redington Park and Ride to get regular buses and a tour bus into Oxford instead of fighting traffic and looking for parking. We had several meals, and the best sticky toffee pudding ever at The Chequers Pub, just a short walk from the house. We also drove to Reading to catch the train into London for the day and successfully drove to Stonehenge as well.

A Sainsbury's grocery store was conveniently located on the way home from the Park and Ride where we purchased basic cooking supplies which were not included, i.e., oil, butter, salt and pepper.

The owner left a wonderful, freshly baked loaf of bread and bottle of white wine for our arrival.

Because there were no instructions for the stove/oven or washing machine/dryer, we had to Google operations manuals to figure them out - never got the washer/dryer to work properly, which I mentioned to the owner at the end of our stay. She offered to come over and explain it but we were scheduled to leave the next day.

I highly recommend this country retreat for those needing peace and quiet.
