Farmhouse in Canterbury, Kent, England - Working Farm Location, farm Tours Available
Higham Farmhouse was recently renovated in 2010 and since entering the rental market has proved to be an ideal venue for many large groups whether it be for a family celebration for a notable birthday or wedding Anniversary or alternately University reunions, hen parties, stag parties or even a religious retreat. Higham has also hosted sewing, walking or bird watching groups. The high number of bathrooms is a particular advantage and the house provides spacious accommodation whilst retaining a real 'home from home' atmosphere.

About Clare Holdstock
With my husband and daughter we run a family farm in Kent. Higham Farmhouse was divided into two by my father-in-law and housed farm employees. In 2010 we found both halves were empty and took this opportunity to renovate this historic house. We now let the house in order to pay for the restoration and feel far more involved welcoming guests, than letting it out long term.
Clare Holdstock purchased this Farmhouse in 1949

Lovely country holiday home near Canterbury
Stayed at this farmhouse with my wife, 4 grown up children, 3 with their spouses & 3 grandchildren. The property was ideal with space inside & safe garden space outside for the young grandchildren (& adults) to play. Weather was good with various beaches within 20 - 30 minute car journeys. Also enjoyed Canterbury by using park & ride facility near Sturry.
Location, location, location!!!
If a rural setting with 20 minutes from everywhere is your aim, then you can't beat this place. 3 miles from Canterbury with all its supermarkets, 1 mile from the pubs at Fordwich and 10 meters from a bunch of funny cows who wait patiently everyday for their feed. The house is on a working farm and in August the farmer tends to his duties from 7 to 7:30am and the cows give a right mooing when he's there but I had the bedroom nearest the cow stall and I wasn't disturbed by the goings on. The house is much better appointed than any of the photos show, which perhaps show a rustic feel but the house is nicely furnished with a simple quality which is in keeping with the farm environment. The kitchen is ideal and we had no issues cooking dinner for 8 people almost every night. I would go back in a heartbeat. Downsides? Really churlish to point any out. Intenet is slow in accordance with the country setting, so don't expect to watch streamed video. There were a few flies in the attic bedrooms but what else would you expect in the country. Rural == rural, so don't expect a swimming pool ;-) Plenty of things to do in East Kent and I would recommend Dover Castle, the beach at Deal, Howletts Safari Park and of course the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, but that's because I'm a rail nut :-)) Clare and her daughter are welcoming and helpful, so don't hestitate to post a questions to them upfront. Cakes on arrival :-)))
Loved the cottage and it's in a beautiful location
We are a party of 12 (including one infant)... Four generations of the same family. The cottage suited all our needs. Claire welcomed us with cakes and tea. We are booking again this year. The cottage is clean and well maintained.
Perfect gorgeous 5 star cottage! We loved it!
Absolutely lovely property with plenty of space to enjoy a great get away with friends and family. (We had 8 adults but the cottage could comfortably accommodate more).
Set in beautiful countryside, (flowers blooming outside the kitchen window in December!) this cottage is ideal for getting away from it all, but is still a manageable distance from Canterbury.
This property was exactly as described and much more besides. Bigger than it looks in the pictures and maintained to a very high standard. We loved the luxurious ensuite bathrooms. The whole place was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed, the log burners made it especially cosy in the evenings. A very good pub within easy walking distance too!
All in all this was an excellent place to see in the new year with friends and family, would absolutely recommend it!
...and the mince pies were a lovely welcome, thank you!
