Lying at the entrance to the peaceful Kentmere valley Staveley is set in the Lake District National Park near Windermere. Hideaway Cottage is a detached character cottage tucked away in a cluster of cottages, surrounding a communal lawned area, in Banks Fold on the outskirts of this popular Lakeland village. A beautifully presented sitting room with inviting living flame gas stove beckons you as you enter this attractive Lakeland Cottage, furnished to delight. Well equipped dining kitchen. Upstairs you will find two well presented co-ordinated bedrooms and a pleasant fully tiled bathroom. Staveley is a “mecca” for mountain bikers and cyclists due to Kentmere and Garburn Pass being on its doorstep. There is also a good sized cycle superstore and hire shop in the village, and bike hire only a couple of miles away. Also within the thriving village you will find a couple of pubs, Haweshead brewery and bar, two cafes, an artisan bakery, Spar shop, a butchers, chemists and a children’s play area. Windermere is but a few miles away and travelling in the opposite direction is the medieval market town of Kendal, gateway to the lakes.

A pleasant cottage but description is misleading

We spent a pleasant week in Hideaway cottage but upon arrival realised we had been given a false impression of the location, far from being a hideaway it should be renamed Overlooked cottage. The strip of grass shown in the photos is also the back gardens of a row of terrace houses, there are no gates or partitions so people can walk right by affording no privacy whatsoever. We had hoped to relax in private but felt we were surrounded. Inside the luxury cooks kitchen was also an oversell, it was scantly equipped with cheap plastic utensils and several door handles missing. However if these things are not important to you, there is plenty to like, the furnishings are tasteful and comfortable and the water pressure and wifi are excellent. It is right in the centre of Staveley which has excellent facilities for a small village with the eagle and child pub nearby serving nice if slightly pricey food. The manager was very kind and helpful, I just wish they had been more honest in their description.

Owner's Response: The cottage has been on holiday lets for over 14 years and as no body has raised the question of the location before I have assumed that people have understood that a "FOLD" (Banks Fold) is a group of cottages. To avoid any future misunderstandings I have changed the description. I am pleased to see that Anonymous has enjoyed their holiday and the facilities that Staveley has to offer.

Hideaway Cottage

Hideaway Cottage is a lovely place to stay. It affords the visitor peace and quiet, with easy access to the fabulous town of Kendal and the beauty of Lake Windermere. We stayed for a week, and as the time wore on, our stress levels diminished. We could easily have stayed another week. What was a real joy was that if we wanted to be left alone, the locals didn't bother us. We would thoroughly recommend staying at Hideaway Cottage.

excellent place

A wonderful place to stay in. Well equipped and very clean. Its a shame we could not stay a few more days. A very peaceful area and as the name suggests it is in a hidden area. Parking is not a problem at all.

Changeover Day:
Normal changeover is Saturday however we offer short breaks depending on time of year so can often be flexible with arrival days.

Notes on prices:
Short breaks and last minute deals maybe available therefore its best to email or telephone with your requirements and travel dates.

Please ignore Owners Direct pro-rata rates as this is not how our break prices are calculated as there are fixed costs like laundry, cleaning, heating etc which have to be covered. Ive asked them to remove the pro-rata pricing as it’s misleading but so far got nowhere with them.

Our out of season short break rates are calculated at 65% of weekly rent for up to 3 nights stay. 75%= 4 nights, 85%= 5 nights, 95% = 6 nights. For school holiday weeks our minimum rate is 80% of weekly rental for up to 4 nights stay, 90% for 5 nights stay and 95% for 6 nights stay.
