This lovely detached cottage sits within the quiet surroundings of Hemswell Village, near the Maypole and close to the Church. A very smart interior with wooden floors, beautiful furnishings with a French feel, the Forge offers a splendid home for your holiday and is suited for the less able visitors. Hemswell Antique Centre (the largest in Europe) is 1 mile away, medieval Lincoln, 13 miles, Doddington Hall, 14 miles. Pubs and restaurants 3 miles, shop 1 mile. It is possible to walk through the countryside on a public pathway from Hemswell Village to Willoughton where there is a Pub (The Stirrup) and a small post office.
John and Christele moved from Yorkshire to Lincolnshire twelve years ago. They fell in love with The Forge and completely restored the property in the quiet residential village of Hemswell. One of the very few villages with a maypole. Christele is a full time ceramic artist, and John is an engineer who enjoys doing aerobatics.
Christele purchased this cottage in 2006
We chose The Forge in Hemswell because it offers the best of two worlds. On the one hand it is rural, tranquil and secluded yet within easy reach from major motorways and airports. ( M180/M18/A46/A1) (East Midlands/Doncaster-Sheffield/Humberside)
On one side going East we can readily access the coast and the Lincolnshire Wolds on the other side going West, we can readily access the rest of the country.
Kirton Lindsay only a few miles away offers nice village shops and amenities (butcher, baker, newsagent, small Coop, beautician, Indian restaurant...) with its own working windmill. Hemswell Antique Centre less than a mile away is a definite attraction.
We have a dog and enjoy walks, the area has plenty of footpaths and bridleways. I used to cycle and the rural back roads are a delight.
We love Lincoln, a quaint interesting pleasant town with a good range of entertainment from cultural to casual and good restaurants.

This was our second time we stayed and had a lovely time Great location beautiful building
Will be going back
We had a short stay purely in the area to meet new granddaughter. As husband recovering from stroke he requires a downstairs bedroom which the cottage provided therefore the reason for booking the accommodation. We shall certainly be back for a longer stay. We hope to be able to make use of the pizza oven outside and have the family along. With some instructions from Christele we should be able to achieve this. Would also like to see more of the area including the antique centre which I understand to be nearby.
We just spent 2 glorious weeks in this lovely cottage, with amazing olde worlde features.
There was a very warm welcome with home made cake and fresh flowers.
The cottage was clean, spacious and comfy and well stocked in every way.
It was situated in a beautiful garden, a real hide-away, and in a very friendly village.
The owners, John and Christele were very helpful and generous. Our son has special needs and Christele had a sixth sense how to get on with him.
And Jasper, their wonderful labrador was brilliant.
Round about there are many places of interest, the antique centre, for which you definitely need more than one day, Lincoln and Brigg, and the garden centre in Brigg was superb. Uncle Henry’s’s is also well worth the visit.
We bought great Christmas gifts to take back home.
We would certainly recommend this cottage and would very much like to come back.
Ruud and Anita,
Stayed in the cottage for a week during antiques weekend in Lincoln and Newark.
Very good deal for low price charged
Great quiet location with easy access to Hull, Newark, Lincoln and east coast
Cottage was spacious, clean, great finish , nice garden area, with a very good hot shower.
Owners Christele and John were very helpful, tempted to take Jasper (the dog) back to the Scottish Highlands
Will stay again
